I think most of their students are in the 6 years programs. Transfer do get in but you need a good records. Good PCAT amd GPA about 3.00. I talk to a couple guys from their office when I started looking into pharmacy schools. They are pretty expensive though for their caliber

Yeah they do accept a low ratio of transfer. They told me that too.

I applied to LIU last year. It's probably the bitterness of rejection talking, haha, but that school seems really shady. I sent my application last year and didn't hear anything AT ALL from them, ever! I only found out I was waitlisted by asking them on the phone. And I assume I was rejected because nothing else ever happened.

Plus, I was reading the ACPE Guidelines for Accreditation (don't ask), and apparently, in order to be accredited, pharmacy schools are required to interview their applicants. LIU doesn't give interviews. How is it still accredited? I guess that has to do with being a 0-6 program or something.

And they're freakin slow. My friend actually did get accepted as a transfer last year, but they told him during the end of JULY, by which time he had already put down a deposit for UofMaryland, gotten an apartment there, etc.

Despite my complaining, I still wanna go there. It's close to my house. Sigh!

If u are shocked about LIU what about ALbany that doesnt interview or dont need anything else all they look at is the GPA and send u letter of acceptance or rejection. No LOR or nothing and yeah the $100 supplemental fee

i applied to LIU this year since I live in NY....they don't send any confirmation or anything about your application ... it's just messed up. It's not my top choice and I'm not going to go chasing after them but it just shows you a little about the school when you don't hear ANYTHING from them.

I applied to LIU this year on the extreme chance I might, possibly get considered. After I applied online and sent in my supplemental information they sent me a letter back stating my file is complete. I've called a couple of times and they said they don't look at applications until after their deadline, which is the beginning of February.

I don't think you have to interview students before accreditation. What about those school such as Albany, FAMU and the 6 year curriculum schools that do not interview. Long Island University is fully accredited. Check the list of Accredited pharmacy school on the AACP website and you will see.
Fully accredited list: http://www.aacp.org/issi/membership/schools.asp?action=view&TRACKID=&wh=A&CID=593&DID=4224

Yea, I realize all that. But lookie here (from http://www.acpe-accredit.org/standards/default.asp)

"In-person standardized interviews of applicants, including evaluation of verbal communication skills, understanding of the pharmacy profession, and commitment to patient care, must be part of the admission process.
*In the case of 0-6 or 1-5 programs, progression into the first professional year (as defined by ACPE) can occur without the required interview only if formative and summative assessments in courses or activities (overseen by pharmacy faculty) are used to assess eligibility for progression based on the student's verbal and written communication skills, understanding of the pharmacy profession, and commitment to patient care. Transfer students into the first professional year of the curriculum for 0-6 or 1-5 programs must be interviewed."

Says transfers must be interviewed. I guess the ACPE standards are just not very strict.

I had a similar experience 2 years ago, applying as a transfer student. I waited, waited, waited, never heard anything. I call them late in the spring and they're like, "Oh, congratulations, you were accepted." Then they mailed me some stuff. Who knows if I ever would have found out if I hadn't called. Didn't go there in the end, though.

I applied there after getting out of high school and got into their program, but I decided not to go there b/c I asked them is it like a guaranteed seat program and their response was neutral ..........they told me that nothing is guaranteed (which I know), but still I didn't end up going there for pharmacy. I was just wondering was it a bad decision that I made in the past??? Well, I can't change anything, but if I went to LIU would it prepared me for the better pharmacist after six years???

they have an early assurance i think. After 2 years of ur undergraduate, you need atleast a 3.0 gpa to advance to 3rd year and thereafter maintain a 2.0 gpa if i remember correctly.

I was accepted at Long Island Univ. in the fall of 2005 as a transfer student. I was also accepted at Northeastern Univ. and rejected from Rutgers and Temple. I wasn't interviewed by NEU or LIU. However, I was interviewed by Temple.

I chose LIU because it's close to home. In my class, 40% are russians, 40% are asians, and 20% are others... The school is expensive (almost 30k per year). The area is not that bad... It's Brooklyn. What do you expect anyway?

I'm happy with the program. It's intensive and stressful at times though. I have not had any problems so far. It's extremely competetive for transfer students. You must have a good GPA. During orientation I was told that the minimum GPA for transfer applicants in 2005 was 3.5 because they received over 2000 transfer applications. Only 40 were accepted.

If you flunk one class, you get behind one year. You need 60% to pass most classes and in some you need 70%, however, your GPA must be above 2.0.

Teachers are fair. The dangerous ones, believe or not, are the ones who teach topics such as health care, communication skills, etc. Their exams are full of tricky questions, double negative questions, and you know the rest...
