You forgot NYCOM.

What are your criteria? Those schools have very different environments and benefits.

Agree with this very much!
Plus you have 2 DMU's on that list...?? 😕

DMU-COM is WAY better than DMU, that is, if you want to go to a College Of Medicine 😉

Only 16 hours!

You must love to drive. I know for those schools that are at least 4 hours away I'm bringing along my satellite radio. That usually kills time.

Peace

It was totally a joke. It was an awful drive!!! My husband and I drove it with our 9 month old and our 22 month old. We left about 4 am and got in sometime around 8 pm. It was brutal! We had a satellite radio and even that didn't help pass the time. I think that may be the only reason they accepted me; they didn't have the heart to turn me down after that drive. Anyway, it is a great school and I think everyone should check it out.:luck:

If being close to NY is your only major concern, I doubt you need us to rate these for you. It's just a matter of distance, eh?

For me, if it's more than a 4 hour drive, odds are I'm flying. I'm not much of a fan of driving, unless I can get someone to split the driving with me.

MCATTT, where in NY are you? I was at LECOM earlier, and if you're from NYC, it's a total culture shock. It's also too far to drive, unless you're DoctorMom, and there are no direct flights from NYC, so you have to connect onto a teeny tiny little plane that in all honesty, didn't feel very safe. I've never been more thankful to reach land. That was a major downside for me of LECOM. But maybe that doesn't bother you so much. But LECOM is all the way up north, I think like an hour nad a half away from Buffalo?

I live in Flushing, Queens. I am applying to 7 schools total. Since I've never traveled to any states further than virginia and washington, it is pretty hard for me. I have a lot of concern thinking about interviews. If I am fortunate enough to get many interviews, I don't know how I will be able to manage traveling.

Of course, location is not the only priority. I consider education quality as well as the cost. That's why I needed a vote. I just don't want to miss out schools just because I am not aware of them.
How much money would a typical applicant be spending while traveling??

I think your original list + NYCOM looks good.:luck:

Well it sounds like you would be happy going first with the 3 schools closest to you - NY, NJ and Philly. I don't think you can go wrong with those.
Des Moines cost me about $450 total - travelling from Boston. I don't know how much it would be for you to get to the other places. Check expedia.com and just put in some random travel dates.

I applied to DMUCOM but turned down an interview...wasnt interested in living out there.

Same with LECOM...turned down the interview.

PCOM was my top choice.

I was looking at UMDNJSOM for a little while but certain things made me withdraw my application.

I did interview at NYCOM and although their 3rd/4th year clinical sites are good, I wasnt impressed with the school or the overall student body (seemed unhappy).

So my rank was:

PCOM
NYCOM/UMDNJSOM - if I needed a backup it would have been one of these 2
Everything else

If I had to rank those schools for me based on cost, location, and clinical education quality only - it would be so: (including NYCOM)

UMDNJ-SOM
NYCOM
DMU/PCOM
LECOM

thanks for the input. They are very helpful in my decision making.

PS - good to see you doctormom. Thanks for everything. 😉
