I am re-reading the Chronicles of Narnia and remembering SO much that I forgot. I love these books.

Also, I am on an absolute baking rampage. The cashier at the grocery store probably thought I was insane. Currently working on red velvet truffles, pumpkin cream cheese truffles, and plan to make pumpkin fudge on Tuesday to bring to my family for Thanksgiving. Mmmmm baking!

You have my address, right? I'm expecting a care package from you within the next week. 😉 Can't wait until exams are over so I can think about holiday baking!

Those sound delicious!

My plan in the near future is to calm both my baking and cake decorating side by making a few ice cream cakes Baskin-Robbins-style. Still working on the design, but I'm thinking winter-themed...

If you had ever tried my truffles, you would literally be in your car, on your way already. One of my coworkers pet sits for me, and I pay him in baked goods. He ALWAYS asks for the red velvet truffles. They are so horribly, horribly, sinfully good. I also do Oreo, and chocolate peanut butter, but my boss gets mad when I bring them to work because she can't not eat them.

RAVE: this was ortho weekend, where the orthopod comes down and does consults and surgeries. all of the consult patients were relatively good - only one growled and it was only once when the dr got to an arthritic joint. we ended up with 2 surgeries - it should have been 3, but i'm not complaining that one of them was not financially prepared. we did surgeries after consults were over and everyone took a lunch- so started about 4 and we were out the door at 9:30. we rocked it out!

through these ortho weekends I have found that I am an incredible leg taper (for the TPLO surgeries) and a rocking shoulder radiographer.

It's killing me, too! As soon as my last exam is over, I think I'm going to be starting the series from the beginning again!

That's my plan, as well! The movie was soooo awesome!

Not to derail the stories of baking goodness, but I ran my first marathon today!!! Not sure if it's sunken in yet, but there are sure to be more of those in the future. 🙂

Anyone who wants to come visit and trade recipes/baked goods/actual cooking is MORE than welcome. I can barely make pasta!

Seriously though, if anyone wants recipes and tips on making any truffles, PM me. They're more chocolate-covered cake balls than "truffles," but calling them balls just sounds wrong. I also do a serious flourless chocolate cake, peanut butter icing for my incredible chocolate cake (with flour), and pumpkin and banana bread!

TT: OMFG RIBS. PLEASE COME NOW.
Cowgirla: Mmmmm, stuffing. Yes please!

Niri: Congrats on your first marathon! You are doing better than me, since I've been tasting truffles all day! 😉

1. I rode my horse for the first time in a month, and it was the best moment all month. 🙂
2. Mizzou gave me an interview!
3. Thanksgiving is almost here!!! I can't wait to eat turkey, drink some wine, and stuff my face with pie.

Tomorrow is here in about five minutes. Today will be OVER and GONE from my memory (today was not good).

Tomorrow I will make the drive home for the first time this semester where I will get to see my family and my dog and ride some friends horses and write those papers I've been putting off all semester (ok, that's not a rave, you're right).

Anyway, today is almost over and tomorrow is almost here.

Tonight is the Mirror Lake jump!! I bought lots of liquor and I don't have class tomorrow, so I'm drinking and jumping into a lake. It's a good day.

Plus I go home tomorrow morning! I can start Thanksgiving break and leave the past week of HORRIBLE tests and quizzes behind. I am going shopping with my mom tomorrow afternoon for new shoes for my interview (!!!) and on Thursday is obviously Thanksgiving with my whole family, who I miss very much. Friday I am going Black Friday shopping with my best friend and then Friday afternoon we are going to take my two horses on a trail ride. Friday night I head back to Columbus so that on Saturday I can watch OSU ANNIHILATE Michigan =D

Then Sunday it's back to real life and I have to do my bonus report for MolGen that is sorely needed, as well as try to study up on stats because I'm SUPER behind.

Oh, and last thing! Today in my speech class I gave a speech on Boxers, so I took my dog Cassius to class. My girlfriend held him for me and when I was done she took him around the room to say hi to everyone. He was my visual aid, since we have to have 2 for this speech (I used him and a Power Point) and he was SO good. There was one moment of hilarity, too. I was standing up giving my speech and my girlfriend was sitting down about 10 feet away from me with him on a leash. I had just gotten to the part where I was reading the AKC Breed Standard for a Boxer's temperament, and right as I said that Boxers should be "dignified and self-assured" he began to whine like a little baby and didn't stop until I walked over and petted him. That had everyone cracking up.

I enjoy classes that are open-ended enough to let you fulfill the requirements while still letting you do something you're interested in. I really like my abnormal psychology class because of this. Besides 4 tests, we also are required to write a paper relating to anything we covered in the entire semester. One of the topics of the class that we first covered was stress, coping mechanisms, and protective and risk factors. I chose to write my paper on the stressors of veterinary medicine, as well as ways to cope, and factors of my personality and behavior that will make me more or less susceptible to certain stressors. I haven't officially finished writing it, but I came up with the main points and general organization. I just need to make complete sentences and transition statements.

Since I finished the paper so early, and have no tests next week, I bought a game today. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood to be exact. I'm such a wimp at video games, meaning I am incredibly afraid to fight big monsters and die, but the premise of the second Assassin's Creed really hooked me. Plus, if you do die, you just pick up where you left off. It took me forever to get the controls right, so I don't even want to know how many times I accidentally jumped backwards off a building when I meant to climb up faster...

I heart Prozac because it has saved my dog's life and my sanity. I was going through some old videos on my computer, and found my documentation videos of him having 'episodes'. His anxiety takes over and he cannot focus - short version.
So as I am watching these, It isn't until now, 2 years later that I am realizing that he's a different dog in the videos. I had doubted for a long time that it was working, but stuck with it for a full year before I made any decisions. Now that it has been two, and I can look back and see these, WOW. what a change this has made in our life.
I must also say it's not just been a bunch of pills that have made this all better. Lots of training involved, both me and him.

I thank God for the patience he has given me through this.😍

1) I bought a suit today that I am really happy with (after the one I ordered online was a bust)! Spent twice as much as I wanted, but I will be comfortable and feel good in it, so it is worth it. This whole purchase was extra complicated because of some recent weight loss (with more planned) but I think the suit will fit great through at least December and taking TT's advice (thanks, whatever thread that was), I got black so if I need to buy a new pair of pants, it will be easy.

2) I am visiting family and have been having some culinary successes cooking healthful meals that they haven't hated!

3) My dogs have been being much better behaved house guests here than last year. Neither has been being as hyper or excitable, and the naughty one has only stolen food off the counter once😀!

I know the feeling! I'm no gamer, but the whole practically-flying-over-rooftops part Assassin's Creed 2 made me want to play it. When I did, I quickly realized that the PS3 controller has too many buttons for my brain to handle. I can't begin to count the number of times my boyfriend and I laughed as I did something that was exactly the opposite of what I meant to do, usually ending in crash-landing onto a group of guards who promptly tried to kill me. Fun though!

I got a new Android phone as my early Christmas present! 🙂 I'm pretty excited about it, as I've never had a "smartphone" before.

Ooh very exciting! I got a droid about a year ago, and frankly I'm still confused. Haha. I don't feel like I'm using the phone to its fullest capabilities. But it texts, goes on the internet, and makes phone calls so I'm all set :-D

Haha that sounds about right! My SO has come to make fun of me because whenever Ezio does something stupid, I yell, "What are you doin'?" at the screen. Then I hear, "You know you made him do that..." It is definitely fun though. They added a few things for the new one that I already notice, and that make it a little more fun/interesting (i.e. I've actually used the gun in a fight because there are guards on horseback now that repeatedly interrupt your fighting with guards on the ground, so it's just easier to take them out initially). Also, you can whistle for your horse, which reminds me of Epona in Ocarina of Time.

Also, the graphics in this game... are awesome. Rome is beautifully constructed, and you can run through the Colosseum and other ruins. 😍

I got a Droid last year for Christmas and I'm with you! I do use my navigation sometimes, as well as a few other features but really, I just use it to call, text and get online/check email. The "DROID" notification noise scares the bejezus out of me everytime it goes off (both because of the voice sound when I'm home alone AND because it might mean vet school email!), but it's so much more fun than the other selections you have to choose from 😉

This shirt. Thanks to a $10 sale, it is finally, finally, finnnaaaallyyyy going to be mine. I've been eyeing it since the artist's initial sketch, but just couldn't justify $20 for a t-shirt.

Totally not related to vet med, but I'm so excited for it to come! 😍

Also, I'm getting a DSLR camera for Christmas. 🙂 I love my family's policy of asking people what they want under the tree, not guessing.

Funny, 'cause I was excited about getting the 'Foxy" tee from Threadless for $10. That is, I was until their damn site went down. I hope I can still get it before it sells out.

I do like the booby dance, though. 🙂

My roommate has that shirt, it's really nice and bright. 🙂 I just hate that shipping tends to cost so much on Threadless. I'm spoiled by Woot.

That is a cute shirt!

My family asks for Christmas lists as well. This yer my brother and I went as far as making excel spreadsheets with price and vendor listed.

Haha, my sister and I did the same thing to ensure that it was exactly what we wanted 😀

Got to sleep in this morning and woke up spooning two kitties. Bliss.

Pretty funny, but bliss for me is when I wake up NOT surrounded by my cats and dogs who manage to take up ALL the space in any sized bed, and push against me at the same time.

Oh, and the 3 of them together don't even add up to 30 pounds.

So...fussing over my Molecular Genetics grade and whether or not I'll be able to pull a B out of my behind...when one of my classmates so kindly tells me to go check out the grading scale...

A: 100-95
A-:95-90
B+: 90-85
...B: 85-80
B-: 80-75
C+: 75-70
C: 70-65
C-: 65-60
D+: 60-55
E: 55-0

!!!!!! I can totally get an 80% and still get a B! (This is amazing news because typically here at Ohio State a B is an 83% and above.) AND, if worst came to worst, I could get a 65% and that would still be a C! I feel SO much better now. Even though this grading scale makes it near impossible to get an A (normally the OSU grading scale has an A at 93%), for those of us more towards the middle of the road this is excellent news. I am SO excited and feel TONS better about this class now.

Now, if I could just somehow ace this comprehensive final...

Hmm. This kinda worries me when thinking about the vet school. 90% isn't an A? Yikes!

Hmm. This kinda worries me when thinking about the vet school. 90% isn't an A? Yikes!

I'm not sure of the vet school requirements, but for undergrad the University standard is that a 90-92 is an A- and a 93-100 is an A.

Some profs will tweak it to their liking however, such as the one shown above. I also have a prof this quarter who doesn't "believe" in minuses, so his grading scale is something like 90-100 = A, 80-86 = B, 87-89 = B+, 70-76 = C, 77-79 = C+, etc etc.

I'd contact the vet school specifically if you're worried about their grading scale.

The thing is--the + and - scale has helped me far more than it has hurt me. For example, the only "minus" grade have on my OSU transcript is an A-. While I might be frustrated because on the 90-100 scale that would be a straight up A, it is more than made up for by the 2 B+ and 1 C+ on my transcript-without the + and - scale those would only be Bs and a C, therefore lowering my GPA. It's kind of nice to have that "plus" to work towards. Otherwise, you might be left with an 89% that is a B just the same as the person who slacked off a little more and got an 80%. You put in a lot more effort striving for that A whereas they might have put in less work and you got 9% more points than them in the class, and yet you still get the same B and the same 3.0. On OSU's scale, you would get a B+ and a 3.3 whereas the other person would get a B- and a 2.7. So it gives you some incentive to work a little harder, and rewards you for that work.

Ah, I see. That makes sense, EllieG. Thanks for the explanation.

Hooray, EllieG!!!! :highfive:

Same thing happened for me in o-chem! All I have to do is manage a solid C on the final and I'll get a B in the course. Something I NEVER thought possible! 😀

1) I take the NAVLE on Monday.

dyachei, come back!!!

How did it go? What was it like? Is it divvied up between SA and LA, or is it almost all SA? Is it really hard? Was it ok? Do you feel your classes & clinics prepared you well for it? Do you know right away if you passed or do you have to wait? Is it Pass/Fail or do you get a score? What? What???? WHAT??? 😱😱😱

Oh, and huge congratulations on getting it done. 😍 Way to go.😀

I have a lot to rant about, but I figured I would balance it out with a rave as well. I have some awesome friends that are going to take a weekend getaway with me after finals--visiting Biltmore Estate in Asheville, breweries, hotels with spas...it's about the only thing getting me through this week and the next!

Not dyachei but I also recently took the NAVLE. No idea how it went my mental how was it calculator does not do 360 question exams. It is divided between small animal, large animal, pocket pet/bird/reptile, poultry, public health, ethics and business. The majority of the exam is dog/cat and cow/horse with lesser amounts of the rest of the categories. It went okay--I think. You find out if you passed in February you are given both a total score and a pass/fail. If you fail you can take it again in march-april. In general vet school prepares you well for the NAVLE but there will always be questions on things you didn't cover ex. toxic plants, random parasites.

So the truth about the NAVLE - and the reason I didn't come back and post that it was done is that I felt incredibly numb after taking it. I'm one of those people that always knows how I feel about tests and life in general. While I am relieved that this is over, it is still sinking in, I think. I keep forgetting I don't have to VetPrep or Zuku.

I have to wait, like Angelo84 said, until February to find out how I did. There were a good mix of questions, I think. I felt like they were equal parts SA and LA with a sprinkling of exotics, poultry, public health, and business/communication.

I'm just hoping that I do not have to take it again in March-April. Like I said, kind of just numb. Not even able to make a guess on how I did.

Hey Skittles, if you've never done Biltmore before...3 things to mention:

1. get the headphones to take on the tour. very worth it.
2. if you can afford to do any of the behind the scenes tours, do it! again, very worth it. (they were $15 extra per tour when we went a few years ago. don't know if the price has changed, but the tours we went on were phenomenal.)
3. the restaurant in the carriage house (off to the right when facing the front of the house) has yummy food.

Love Biltmore! Can't wait to go back myself! Have a great time!

The owner of my favorite horse in the world offered him to me... Said she wants to see us together, and if I want I can take him now and pay for him after I graduate, the price for me would be only a few hundred bucks once I could afford it (he's been for sale and he won't sell... he either ignores, runs off with, or bucks with all the people who come try him out  guess that's what they get for letting me be his only rider from the time he was 4 (six now)). Then she told me to hurry up and graduate because she fired her vet the other day 🙄

Anyway, the rave isn't really about that... It's that I've been working on a budget since she told me, and I think I can afford it. AND as long as my boss will schedule me full time over the winter break, I can afford to bring him up here with me without dipping in to my savings (by using only what I earn over the break). Considering I agreed to work only two days over thanksgiving and she gave me 18 hours, I don't think it'll take much to for her to schedule me full time, especially considering we are having several employees that are either pregnant or quitting... I can already tell unless she starts hiring now we'll be severely understaffed for the break. And what can I say, I'm a very willing employee who always volunteers to take the overtime hours  Plus she already told me I'm up for review and will be getting a raise.

I'll have a pony next semester! (probably)

I didn't do as well as I would have liked to on my last genetics exam. Normally this would be a rant for me, but I realize that it's not the end of the world- and that's a big step for me!, thus the rave 😀

A would be rant that turns into a rave. This gorgeous 14 year old calico came in at work today to be euthanized. In kidney failure, but could be treated and have a couple more years of good life left in her. Owners couldn't afford it, but we have a funder who can sponsor the kitty for life in this kind of situation, but the owner declined that and still dropped off the kitty to be euth because he couldn't deal with her being sick. Now, if this cat was really sick and miserable and there was no way out, fine. But she is the sweetest thing ever, wandered around the hospital when I set her down, curious about everything. A huge lovey cuddler with a ton of spunk left in her, it so wasn't her time. I wanted to adopt her, but one of my roommates wouldn't allow it and we were pretty much out of options, but the vet, some others, and I couldn't stand for this cat to be put down, so we managed to talk the right people into giving us a few days to treat her and find her a home. So now she has a chance, and although I'm frustrated I can't keep this lovey girl, I'm hopeful that one of the clients at our clinic will give her a home to enjoy the rest of her life in.
I'm awful at this kind of situation, though, unnecessary euthanasia, I always need to find a way around it, can't let it happen. This will be really hard because I'm hoping to go into shelter med, and I'll have to eventually accept that I can't save everyone.

I ditched my class tonight (as much fun as listening to the prof read from his powerpoints is...) and went to ride my pony instead. The excuse is that we have a horse show this weekend, but really I just felt like riding. Had a FABULOUS lesson, one with lots of "hey, I DON'T suck!" moments, and am looking forward to Sunday. Also had a great talk with Trainer about what we're doing with my horse this season.

So worth skipping class.

Many raves after Thanksgiving break for me! I've been sucha downer lately I think this is overdue.

TMDSAS FINALLY got my vet reference letter that they swear I didn't send in and I swear they lost. I had to resend it, got delivery confirmation, and told the rude response I got to my original question that it would be there soon and that I now had tracking on it in case it didn't show up again. Received and approved 11/22. Still stressed about them actually getting it TO A&M, but I'll deal with that shortly...

I took 4 tests the week before Thanksgiving break, and ended up with a 92 on physics and a 93 on a comprehensive biochem exam. I was convinced I did not understand either of those subjects with any hope of competence and just had to eek through them and hope for the best. Now it appears I am in the solid running for an A in a biochem class full of biochem majors, which I am not. 😀 The other two tests also did not go poorly, so that was exciting as well.

I'm retaining more about viruses than I thought I was. I talked at length with a professor today about Distemper virus, sounded competent, and proved a point about the group that did their case history presentation on it (which I feel kind of bad about because I highlighted that they didn't get the immune response to the virus AT ALL lol) and now am confident I can explain it and not sound like I'm stumbling over my own brain.

I get to see my dog soon. Dec 18. Can't wait.

And for LivestockDoc... At least I have purple shoes. 😉

1. I just finished my LAST o-chem lab for the semester!!

2. I got 100% on my last two o-chem lab reports which gives me a definite A in lab... Pretty much assures me a B in the course!

3. I finished my genetics course this week and it looks like I'm going to be able to squeak out an A!

Even though things are looking bleak for acceptance, I'm thrilled that I've been able to conquer two of the most horrible courses I've ever taken (and did very poorly in years ago) at the same time while working 45+ hours a week. That's a victory for ME!!

That is fantabulous, LMMS! Very impressive. I second your :banana:

Atta girl! Those shoes ROCK! Big congrats on those exam scores!
