I get to use my new stethoscope today! So excited for our first class lab with live animals!
mm so many good things coming in the mail! amazon is dangerous😀 got the red filter i ordered for my camera today! it fits perfectly and i am very curious to see what it does to my bluer dive shots. everyone i know with a red filter feels like it makes a huge difference, but my camera is already pretty top notch with regards to white balance underwater. next on the list is the little bits and pieces of dive equipment i've picked up over break. stellar deal on a wetsuit, slate, compass, rattle, rash guard, reel (i've been busy!!). i found a tervis tumbler with a dive flag that says "i'd rather be diving!".
lastly - i ended up purchasing the all pro notebook since the korean one wasn't available. its so cute!!! it's the perfect size and i can't wait to start filling it with facts for clinics. better get started since we start afternoon rotations in 2 weeks! http://www.allprosoftware.com/BinderAccessoryKit/

My dad's going to Korea at the end of January. I should ask him to buy a bunch of those notebooks and bring them back, haha.
In third year, all I could do was impatiently wait for cadaver labs to be over so we could do the "real thing" in fourth year.
Today I was sooo happy to have a cadaver again...Got to "practice" amputations and really feel like I could do it on a live animal now without screwing it up too badly 🙂 Wanted to practice a few other things but ran out of time.

I am truly blessed. I have an awesome family and group of friends. My parents, sister and her fiance stayed with me in the hospital until my release. My parents drove me back to MI and are staying with me for the rest of the week to make sure I am okay. School has been very understanding of my absence and classmates are giving me notes. I have received flowers and get well cards, numerous phone calls, and voicemails. Just hoping my student health insurance pulls through and pays for my bills. If not, my auto insurance apparently has a bodily harm credit of $100,000 so I hope that will cover whatever the health insurance does not. Car insurance is also paying for my guinea pig's new cage, because the old one was ruined in the wreck.
Parents bought me a new car today- another Subaru. Extremely excited to go pick it up tomorrow!

I did a day of vet shadowing at our local zoo and scored big! They were working on a lioness and I got to help!
glad you are doing well! FWIW, my car insurance paid first and health insurance second. not sure if it will work the same way or not for you.I am truly blessed. Took my older Dobie boy in for his bi-annual bloodwork and exam (which every person from receptionist to doctor seemed to think that there was something wrong with him) and everything came out great! He's nearing 10 and being a Doberman, I always worry about DCM. Doctor said his heart sounded perfect and that given his body condition, he could pass for a 5 year old (except for all his grey, haha). Lastly, bloodwork was all normal except for a high normal ALT value that we will be retesting in 2 weeks to determine if the value was spurious. Scheduled a dental for February and plan on having a cardiac ultrasound performed in July at his next check-up. Or x-rays if his heart is still sounding good, for baseline.
Very little in this world makes me happier than knowing my pets are as healthy as possible. 😍

This upcoming week I get to find out if I have an interview for a long-term part-time job that will, hopefully, keep me employed after I graduate with my Master's and while I wait for vet school to happen.
It's with ACLU Ohio, which is clearly not veterinary in nature, but I would like to do more work with non-profits and I like the thought of working with legal advocacy issues. Plus, it pays well and only asks for 25-35 hours a week which will allow me to pursue my other interests and possibly start volunteering with the local wildlife center or the humane society again.
I also can't wait for my internship to end. I've been doing it for almost 7 months and I'm ready to be done. I like the people that I'm working with but being told conflicting things constantly is starting to annoy me. I only work 19 hours a week so just one day of "Jess, go pull articles on XYZ" can really slow down progress on the bigger project I was specifically hired to complete. I have a little less than 8 weeks left. Yay!

My Pittie girl had her annual this past week (1st senior panel...sniff, sniff) and everything came back great. Then, yesterday, the lymph nodes on the right side of her neck blew up like balloons. I went into a complete panic, thinking the worst. Turns out she had a teeny-tiny spider bite, and after an NSAID, antihistamine, and some lymphatic drainage massage she's back to normal. Phew.
Today I tipped a sheep and got blood from her jugular--my first ever blood draw! I love this getting to work with live animals every week, PBL is the best.
Placed an orogastric tube in a dog today. 🙂
Jealous. Wish I was there, instead of home trying to not stress over finding jobs.NAVC! ! ! That is all.

Made some excellent contacts today at our 5 hour dental club extraction wet lab!! Met a former AVDS president- Mizzou grad who basically founded the dental Residency at Wisconsin. I got his card and talked to him about potentially coming out to the practice he is at to do a preceptorship or externship. I'm super excited!!
survived day 1 of classes...3 hours of food animal IM, 1 hour of SAIM, and 4 hours of "career development" ughhhh (only 18 more hours to go for that class this week...). however, i finished the day with a beautiful night dive where our presence was graced by 2 seahorses!!!! dive number 80 for me!

It's a good thing there are people like you out there...dental stuff (mostly extracts) squicks me out so bad.

Oh yeah, dental stuff makes me want to die. Especially extractions. It is the one thing that I nearly vomit even watching it done.
My rave: after my cats scare with possibly eating ibuprofen over the weekend, we rechecked bloodwork today and everything looks great! It does mean I've been torturing them with SQ fluids, famotidine inj and sucralfate since then, but I'll take peace of mind over messed up kitties! Guess this means they didn't actually eat any. Woops!

If you haven't bragged on facebook, it didn't happen 😛
Way to kick butt! You rock 🙂

I'd rather do dentals than eyeballs. But both squick me out majorly.
I''m okay when I'm the one actually doing the dental and driving the machines. Cant stand watching them.
I passed last semester!!!!!!! SO BLOODY HAPPY!!!!! and relieved... that semester almost killed me

Got to meet a couple SDNers and had a really good time chatting with them
Snow day tomorrow=time for wine!
Snow day tomorrow=time for wine!
Jealous! I'm considered "essential personnel," and therefore must go out in this crap and fight my way to work.
P.S. - Me, you, and SOV should meet up sometime (and anyone else in Philly)!
Just got our holiday list for clinics next year and I am on equine clinics with all my equine buddies that I had to leave behind last year since I'm in the small animal stream. Only a week but it means I get Christmas off and I'm spending New Years with some of my favorite people on pony clinics! yay! 🙂
I'm getting muscle definition back in my surgery leg!(it's still atrophied compared to my "good" leg, but it's improved) And I've tightened my belt TWO notches in 3 weeks!

Avocado pasta. Holy deliciousness.
Homemade? I've kind of been interested to try it, along with other veggie pastas. I need to buy a spiralizer first.

No spiralizer for this one (although I've been on the lookout for one so I can have zucchini pasta again). This was just regular pasta with an avocado based sauce I made. My life has been forever changed.

I want to get one. I also really need to try spaghetti squash!

Hmm. Might have to look into this.

Mmmm spaghetti squash is soo good.
I really should be morbidly obese.

Spaghetti squash is tasty, and I would totally eat it all the time as a healthy spaghetti substitute, but it has made me sick all three times I've tried it. No idea why. Makes me sad. 🙁
Snow day! Which combined with the fact that I'm going to CDC day instead of classes on Monday makes this a nice long weekend!
I reaaaaallly want a spiralizer, but it's one of those things I will never ever buy myself because they seem so frivolous.... but looks so yummy.
Sometimes you can find them reasonably priced at Target.

Just shoveled snow in 22 degree weather.
The rave?
It actually felt really quite temperate (there was no wind). Amazing what we can get used to.
