RAVE HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm excited to be back in TX at the end of this week - there's a great spot behind my house and I'm hoping to see some roseate spoonbills before the weekend is over - they're my favorites! I've also heard tale that some common pauraques were spotted relatively recently in the area and I want to find some.

GO BIRBS!!!!

They were on my list when I escaped to the Everglades during my internship, but I didn't get to see any. Someday...

Luckily I'm in the very northern part of the year-round range for the pauraques, so I should have plenty of opportunities to find the buggers over the next few months.

My rave for the week, maybe year.

I put my money where my mouth is and just picked up the cables to my new 65" Clevertouch interactive touchscreen whiteboard. I may be old and friendless in College Station, but my board brings all the boys (and girls) to the yard. Mine, specifically. Yep, I'm luring study buddies with high tech devices.

Please post a follow up pic when up and running!!

Will do. I move June 10th and want it up and running before the Anatomy bootcamp starts.

Also I’m drooling a lot at this. Can I transfer to A&M for your whiteboard?

Goal is to modernize. Y'all make too many things harder than they need to be. I have a lot of things up my sleeve from teaching at a techy school [emoji6]

Any of y'all in Texas over the summer should let me know. I would say I won't be too far away but let's be honest, it's Texas, so I'll optimistically be 4 hours away at best

It looks like you’re only 6 hours away from me right now!

@cdoconn That's why I bought it before I quit my career and start slumming it [emoji28]

I'll share ways to make things easier with tech as I find hurdles in school. I'm just stocking up to take the living room and make it a big study area and leave the small dining room as our living room. I'll post pictures after I move. I'm so ready to close this chapter and move on.

My last shift as a receptionist is tonight!! :highfive: I'm really glad I took this job because it has crushed any lingering sadness about not getting into vet school. No, really. I'll go find a lab to hang out in and you guys can keep the clients and angry cats. I'm good.

I was talking to a resident at work and I mentioned that I'm leaving the clinic. She couldn't fathom why I would cut my hours in half without a back-up plan. Yeah, I won't be making much, but that's why I'm going to live at home forever and ever. Right . . . ?😢

I earned several adulthood points today, because I managed to get my car serviced, washed/vacuumed, and changed out all of the wiper blades in a span of 24 hours. Normally all of those things would take me a span of 5-12 months to get around to.

Okay, here are today's pictures from mist netting 😀 @Karabiner13 @that redhead @TheGirlWithTheFernTattoo @Skimble @vetmedhead @Coquette22
In order (starting on left side of each side-by-side): Male American Redstart, Male Magnolia Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Male Morning Warbler, Female Baltimore Oriole, Sassy Traills Flycatcher, the same Traills Flycatcher just a less flappy photo of him/her, and a Female Black-and-White Warbler 😀

How does one catch birbs
One sets up a net with pockets between areas of dense trees/scrub and one checks the nets every 10 minutes, untangles the birbs, places them into a cloth bag, and then one extracts them, takes measurements, and lets them fly away 🙂

Ooooo that sounds cool af (mostly bc I would get to touch a birb)

are bands easy to see on owls? we have a mated pair hanging around our house (and have had a few babies over the years), was just wondering if banded.

big. 🙂 huge wingspan, sits on top of our light pole. steals guineas from across the street, then uses our roof line to snap their necks, then sits and eats them. or rabbits. middle of the night "WAP" "what was THAT??" "owl hunting again" so much fun, o hey, what did the owl eat last night? go look at the pile of stuff beside the house! and I say huge wingspan, because one of them flew over my head one night...was scared he was after my little dog. or was checking him out...it was cold and so max had on jammies. Owl may have been thinking..."walks like dog. smells like dog. but looks human...???"

Probably either a Great Horned Owl (top) or a Barred Owl (bottom)
