So I AM a candidate for the bone anchored hearing aid, but they’re encouraging me to try a non-surgical approach first with the CROS method and a hearing aid in each ear (the deaf ear will act as a microphone for the other ear). I’ll meet with them in December, I think, to actually get the aids and then I’ll have a lot of things to adjust (and a new stethoscope to buy), but it’ll be really nice to get that going!
That’s super exciting!!!! Hope it goes well!

Exciting! I know a few people who have the CROS system and it's pretty cool. It's really subtle when worn and unless you're looking for it, you can't really tell someone is wearing it.

So far my hearing aid isn't earth shattering in every situation (I didn't expect it to be) but there are definitely times I notice a difference and realize I'm hearing in a way I never have before. So far I've noticed the biggest difference when someone is talking to me from my left and there's not much background noise. I don't have to crank my head and try to keep their mouth in my line of sight to have any confidence that I understand what they're saying. Being able to adjust the volume is AMAZING. (Oh, I can't hear you very well? Let me just bump my volume up - that's better!) I was eavesdropping on a conversation the other day and it felt really cool to be able to casually listen to people just talking around me.

???? I haven't been able to find these in over two years, was told they were discontinued (Midwest states). Wonder if they are making a comeback!?!
Twitter made them bring them back!!!! Idk how long they’re gonna be back for, but I know it’s a thing

We have a long-time client who always gets everything that’s needed for her pets, is super nice, and honestly in our top 5 clients. We did an AUS for her daughter’s dog and found a liver mass so she’s bringing him to Penn for a soft tissue surgery consult. She’s obviously not thrilled to have to do that, but I asked when and her appointment is my third day of class during my lunch break. So I told her I’d stop by the waiting room and say hi while she’s there so there’s a familiar face during all of this. She was so happy and started tearing up because it made her feel so much better that I’ll be there for her. It just made me feel so good that I’m able to do that, and it’s a familiar face for me as well during this big change.

I don't eat meat but saw this on fb. apparently Wendy's has given out 2 million nuggets or something and so they may be out in certain areas? but try door dash and use coupon SPICYNUGGS to get them for less than a dollar. worth a shot if you want them? lol
sounds like they are trying to bring them back or something

I took my board exam today. It was hard and I won’t know if I passed or not for another three to six weeks, but I’m excited to have literally zero responsibilities for studying, work, or experience-building for possibly the first time since high school.

Floppy cat apparently taught herself to climb into the cat tree yesterday, which is a first in her 2 years on the planet so far. She's very pleased with herself.

The Rave Thread was on the second page, which is sad! Surely good things have happened.

I have officially accepted a job offer. Yay for being gainfully employed post-residency and finally making "real" money. I start training in a couple weeks, train for a couple weeks, then start doing my thing on my own. Found a 'big kid' apartment and getting ready to move again. Exciting times! Now I just need to find out if I passed my board exam (which should be in a week or two).

Can I join team bionicle?
My heart looks like a sad upside-down pear.
Wow! Welcome to the team!

I can’t imagine how much muscle dissection they had to do to get to all of those vertebrae! What is that rounded metal opacity structure in the left middle of the abdomen?

It's an implanted pain pump. It looks like I swallowed a hockey puck, but it's filled with compounded meds. A catheter routes around my side and the tip goes into the subarachnoid space to deliver a pre-programmed amount of medication directly to my spinal cord at the level of my injury. Right now I have morphine and clonidine in it. It works alright I guess, ~200x less medication than you would need to pop systemically.

Got my first research job! Yes it is a whopping 4 hours a week (about all I have time for right now). It is with the Vet School so technically I'm a vet school employee. My responsibilities - breeding mosquitoes (I'll find out more this week). School is going to be hard this semester but probably a good run-up to vet school. Now just waiting on acceptance...

I was there a few months ago. I really liked the people at the BRI. It's a very interesting place, and good training.

This is probably the most petty rave ever but I'm feeling good right now.

Since about mid-July I've lost 20 lbs (lbs that I needed to lose, unfortunately due to circumstances, it has not been lost in the healthiest of manners but I'm going with it). I can't really see it when I look in the mirror because I'm also hella tall (advantage when one is overweight, less so when you lose it). But today I put on a pair of freaking FABULOUS boots that I got second hand but could never do the zipper up more than halfway up my calf. Today they zipped all the way to my knee! So even if I can't see it, I guess that 20lbs made a difference somewhere!

Trying to figure out now if I own something that is appropriate to wear with gold metallic 4.5" platform boots because these beauties need to be seen

Also @SportPonies because I'm talking about shoes

Edit: or I suppose snapchat is a thing and probably more efficient

Everyone’s gonna think that I am a shoe fanatic but I actually just wear the same gym shoes every day until they’ve been peed on hundreds of times by patients and thoroughly destroyed haha

Pics or it didn't happen

On my first student shift at our equine hospital I casually asked if they were hiring student techs because I'd worked in an equine ICU in the past and I enjoyed it. They told me they were hiring and based on my experience they'd love to have me so now I have a meeting with them on Monday to talk about the job details to make sure I can handle it with my first year courses!!

Congrats Equus!

I started my new job and it is going well so far. Adjusting to the flow of things but so far hasn’t been anything I can’t handle. Referred even my first case mainly just cause I didn’t think we had the staff to monitor her the way she needed to be and she’s alive and semi walking today (horrible head trauma case).

Also even though I have been going non stop and been home for a grand total of less than like 72 hours the past week I feel more rested than I have working my old job.

Third rave is that my boyfriend and I had an offer accepted on a house that should require very little work from us! As long as things go well, we close the week of Halloween and can move in that weekend which is also our anniversary.

Oh and not sure if it’s a rant or rave yet, but I turn 30 on Sunday. And I have off to celebrate with friends and my sister is coming up for it.

We had a quick staff meeting at my larger hospital recently and they read the little cards that clients can drop off after their appointments. I got one that said “Dr TRH is the kindest person I have ever met.” I think the universe knew I needed that 🙂

Rave: came across a job listing for an amazing company with an amazing salary, actually having something to do with my degree (organ donation stuff), that I am more than qualified for and am a mere two seconds away from applying to

Rant: I just got my raise at my current job, so I'd feel guilty about jumping ship if I got hired at this new job... but I'm also really starting to burn out from all of the overtime and am growing bored with what I'm doing and I'm still not being paid enough and... aaaah

Don’t feel guilty. APPLY SANDY!!!!! You need to do what’s best for you and if that’s a job you might be happier in and paid more even though you recently got a raise, go for it.

Agree. Life is about seizing opportunities when you find them. 🙂
Went ahead and bit the bullet; I figure I'd regret not jumping on the opportunity if I didn't at least try for it! So excited. 🙂

Good luck! I’m glad you went for it! Keep us updated 🙂

About 1 month into the new job and so far things are going well. I've had to stay late a few times but mainly due to procedures, seeing a lot of cases and critical cases. However, majority of the time I'm able to leave within an hour of my shift ending. And while it might be that my meds are finally working as well, I'm definitely less exhausted and happier to be at work. We'll see if that feeling changes the longer I'm with this job, but it's nice to not get angry/annoyed as soon as I walk into the building on a daily basis.

So my dog got a free (ish) DNA kit and I got the results back last night.

…or if you just want to see doggo pictures ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For size reference, she's a medium-size dog, about 50 lbs (23 kg) and her shoulders are roughly up at my knee.

The results are in…I am…NOT THE FATHER

I'm honestly not surprised by the herding breeds lol. My mom thought her top breed was going to be Australian kelpie, so she was pretty close. The shelter we got her from as a puppy said GSD mix, which is…technically correct. Closer than some others who told us maybe doberman or rottie mix based on her coloring.

I definitely see quite a few of those. I did one several years ago on my dog (my avatar). He came back as Shar-pei, Weim and Keeshond as his top three, with Doberman, Newfie, Wired haired doxie, Sheltie and Mexican Hairless at lower levels. Tempted to redo it now and see if it comes back with something different cause I don't believe his initial results. For additional reference, he's a little chubby at 33 lbs right now and his test said he should weight 50-80 lbs.
