Eggplant sammich!

That is all...

Got on my colt for the 3rd time today! He was a total goof, but overall a good boy. We even had our first "Big boy" spook when a tree tried come out of the ground and eat him (he was walking really close to it and a branch brushed against my vest and made things shake) and after a quick spin and a giant leap towards safety, he stopped when I asked and even walked by the big-giant-scary-pony-eating-tree-of-doom a few times. He kept a close eye on it make sure it wouldn't try anything  I don't think his heart rate went below 1000 until we moved to the other side of the ring. His "whoa" is coming along quite nicely, and hopefully the ground will dry up soon so we can do more trot work. It was pretty slippery out there today, so we stuck to walk-halt-walk transitions and working on our power steering.

I love having a horse to ride as often as I'd like. I don't know what I'm going to do when his owner decides she doesnt need me as a trainer anymore.

I don't like horses, but this was cute 😉

I totally disregarded my diet and had a piece of pumpkin pie. Nothing fancy, grocery store bakery purchase... But damn, it was FABULOUS!!! Now I have to keep myself from the rest of it.

Oh yes, nearly forgot... It was grad to see Crosby back on the ice last night. I'm not a Pens fan, but he's a true joy to watch... And, last but certainly not least, Ryan Braun was voted the NL MVP today. YAY!!!!

Just discovered this great quote to live by, especially for those of us who are still trying to get into vet school:

If Plan A fails, remember, there are 25 OTHER letters.

3. Half of my in-laws are flying in from Vermont today. We haven't seen them since February so I am excited. I love Thanksgiving!

Definitely! My SO's parents are already in town, so now we're just waiting on my mom and siblings. I love having everyone in one place! This is the first time for my siblings to meet my SO's dad, but I'm sure it will be great.

Oh, this makes me miss my boy... I trained him from the ground up... Can't wait to get a new horse!

After years of wanting to work with penguins in South Africa, I will be finally be able to. I won a trip to work with them! It's paying for all my in-country expenses (ie. lodging, food, etc.) I still have to fundraise the airfare but....I'M GOING TO SOUTH AFRICA!

That's so awesome!!! I'm actually really jealous. When I was an intern at The Maryland Zoo, I worked with the South African penguins and got really attached to the little guys and miss them a lot. I'm sure you'll have an awesome time!!

They are very addictive! I didn't really care much for birds until I started working with African Penguins at my zoo. I will be working directly with SANCCOB too! World leader in seabird rehabilitation!

You could go with! 😀 I'm currently flying out by myself so that will be an adventure...

My fellow pre-vets at my school said that if I don't get into veterinary school with all of this experience that they're just going to give up  I love that support but, I hope it doesn't get my hopes up too.

Who is the trip through??? I totally would try to do it if I could fund-raise/get someone to cover my in country expenses as well since money's a little a tight...have to start paying off my undergrad loans in 2 months. womp.

And they really are addictive creatures with all their different personalities. I loved sitting and watching them when I had downtime from cleaning their exhibit.

It is through AVIVA. If you mention me on your application, they would probably work with you more directly. The application is more of an interest thing too - no obligation to carry through. If you do apply, PM me and I'll send you my information so you can list me on that. I'm also having to fundraise so I understand that completely.

I'm pretty sure I spend 75% of my time just playing with them. Um..I mean..."Penguin Behavioral Observations." 🙂 and enrichment as well. They're new favorite thing is me blowing bubbles over the water for them to chase and pop. Non-toxic bubbles of course!

Hmm, I'll definitely have to look into it and see if it's something I think I'd be able to pull off. I'll be sure to PM you if I go through with it. And they really do love their bubbles. I did that for my penguins right before my internship ended and the juveniles loved it. Possibly one of the cutest things I've seen.

Damn, how I wish I could go. But, for reasons I cannot control (no matter how I try!) you will have to share your amazing experience with me via internets! Love you & am so proud that you get this opportunity :biglove:

To go along with the weight loss posts, I have taken my belt down another notch, making a grand total of 3 inches lost at the waist since changing eating habits this summer!! I was really good yesterday too; no second helping! I probably ate too many desserts, but to be fair, there were like 6 kinds facing me lol, and I was so stuffed I didn't eat dinner.

Congrats!

I had three types of pie on shift tonight. One with lunch, one with dinner and one with my fiancee when he brought it by. They were small slices, and considering there are 8 pies in the break room that's not bad, right?

Hmm, now I'm wishing my gym (the campus one) wasn't closed for the whole weekend...

LOL... sounds like the kitchen at my work on the holidays... I was fortunate enough to have last night off. I have to work all the other holidays this year though.

I had no pie this year 🙁 I think I cheated myself hahaha...

Rant turned Rave: Pseudo-relationship ended today. But, I really don't think I want to be in a relationship before I ship out to vet school. Somehow, I think it would backfire unless I meet my ideal guy (who undoubtedly, does not yet exist....🙄)

This means: more finances to put toward my vet med funds. HUZZAH!

And continued time to myself to do all of the things that I want to do before I fall off the face of the planet...

Sometimes being single is DEFINITELY the way to go 😉 Good luck!

OMG!! I've been nominated/invited to give a talk at an international research meeting this spring! This is the first time EVER that I've been invited to a research meeting without having to submit an abstract. The really amazing part is that, usually, these invitations go to PhDs and DVMs. I am honored, amazed, and so damned excited! :soexcited:

Congratulations! That is awesome! I would freak out with nerves giving a talk to that many people, but you totally rock for doing it!!! I'm so happy for you! What an honor!

👍

Coming out of lurkdom to rave about the fact that I just got my first veterinary job!! I'm going to be a vet assistant at a 24 hour small animal/ emergency hospital. I'm sooo excited to have been given this opportunity, and I'm glad my persistence in the job search has finally paid off! I've been looking for a job/volunteer position at a clinic for the past 6 months, but with this economy and the fact that I currently have no vet experience it's been pretty difficult. I start next week and I can't wait!! The road to vet school continues 😍

Thanks so much! I'll no doubt be :scared: right before hand (as usual); but once I get going I'll be fine. The joys of grad school - they beat the public speaking fears right out of you between TAing and meeting presentations. Also, presenting on a topic you enjoy really helps. Not like a college speech class where you have to present what's on the slip of paper you pick from a hat.

So goshdarn proud. My heart could burst (but then I'd lose my spot at vet school!)

Rave: TEXTBOOKS!! Just Dance 3. Paying on loans. It's raining!!!😍

And jmo... Holy cow, wow! Now THAT'S a house! Grand idea. Just one question... Is the Aston Martin included?? **Drools with homage to Homer Simpson at the site of such a sexy set of wheels**

Congrats LMMS!!! That's freaking exciting! Definitely send an update about that to all the schools that will accept updates 🙂.

Congratulations on landing the vet assistant job! With it being an emergency hospital, you will probably see some pretty cool stuff 👍 Have fun, it's extremely rewarding!

Thanks, MB! Already on it... Makes me glad I procrastinated on my WI supplemental. 😉

Thanks, LittleWiz! Yeah I'm super excited that I got hired by an emergency hopsital. I think it'll be a great learning experience and I've definitely been leaning more towards going into emergency/critical care lately (as opposed to SA general practice) because of all the interesting cases. I guess I'll know for sure if that's what I want to do after experiencing it! I do like to sleep (a lot!) though, so I can't help but fear that might get in the way at some point 🙄

Aw, thanks guys... 😳 I really appreciate it. And KD - No exploding! You WILL go to school this coming fall!! 😛

The bonus level of exploding from pure joy is, like a phoenix, you resurrect/regenerate and can have infinite opportunities to keep flying 😉

I could rave every day....makes me want to attend a literal RAVE to rave it out until my inner rave's content😛 (I'm not on drugs and more importantly, I'm not crazy. In the words of the great Sheldon Cooper: "My mother had me tested!")

Endoscopy results came back and my dog only has IBD, nothing more serious. And he has regained some of the weight he lost, and his proteins and cholesterol are up on his new diet (for those of you reading the new nutrition thread....he is on Purina HA... hydrolyzed veggie proteins are the way to go!)

YAY SOV!! That's good news :biglove:
To boot, I got a GREAT night's sleep last night... I feel awesome! It's the little things...

^Truth. And when the little things build up....JACKPOT😀 On a similar note, it's the.....2nd(?) day in a row I slept through the night. Gawd, it feels flipping fantastic to be on a regular sleep schedule again😍 Let's try for 3 for 3!
