My sister-in-law sent me a Christmas card with my breed of dog on it (a Pointer...). No easy feat to find, I'm sure. Made my day. Now if Purdue would just send out their e-mails...

The animal hospital I work at has sympathy cards with a beautiful pointer on the front all curled up! They special order them, but I'm not sure where from...

Oh, how neat! Pointers really are the coolest dogs. I, of course, think they should be on everything. 😉

Shadowed our main zoo's veterinarian yesterday...

...it was awesome! Totally worth the 1.5hr drive there and back.

Tomorrow I have the day off and then my last (pretty easy) final on Friday. I'm on tenterhooks regarding my chemistry grade but I'm putting it from my mind. I made my appointment to get my passport paperwork processed tomorrow and I get to spend time with my boyfriend since his work shift has shifted to later in the day. My mom is going to come pick me up today and we're going to go Christmas shopping and have some lunch. I even have solid ideas for gifts!

Although I could be better, today is not a bad day at all 🙂

Just wrote my cell biology exam. I think I did pretty well. I'm hoping for a 90 out of it, so I can pull a 90 in the class, but we'll see! One more exam to go, environmental ecology on Saturday afternoon.

If only some of my other profs would start posting final marks...

88 on my genetics exam, average was a 61. Don't know if that's an A with the curve or not yet, but I don't care because it's high enough that I don't have to take the fiiiiinnnaaaallllll!!!! (we drop our lowest exam score)

Hell. Yeah. Now I only have 2 finals to take down!

You...you used it correctly. You are my new best friend. 😍

One exam down and one to go!!!
Then....:: drumroll ::...Lakers' game on Friday!!!! (Granted in Philly I fully expect to have something thrown at my head and profanities yelled...but who cares...wahooo!!)

I hung christmas ornaments today for the first time in my life. It was fun, and very pretty 🙂

Congrats! That's an awesome feeling! 👍👍

For the first time in... ever, that I can remember, I have FAILED a test. I made a 69 on my physics final.

Why is this a rave?

Well, I had an 88 in the class. I could make a 55 on the final and still have a B, and a 95 (LOL) on the final and still have a B. And my school doesn't do pluses or minuses.

So, I have a B in physics.

And I haven't fallen down dead from failing a test.

something about tenterhookage
You...you used it correctly. You are my new best friend. 😍

Wait so that's actually a word? What's it mean? I consulted the dictionary but it was talking about wool spinning. I feel I need to add this to my vocabulary.

Lol, yes. The origin has to do with the use of tenterhooks to stretch wool out to dry. Wikipedia it and it'll give you a better idea. It just drives me absolutely batty when people misquote the phrase and say "on tenderhooks," even though most of the world has no idea what tenterhooks are anymore! But I'm a huge nerd.

Yesss!!!! I was totally happy to get an AB in the class, but it turns out I have an A. 🙂 Definitely an early Christmas present-- I wasn't expecting an A in this class. Wooooo!!!

I thought my friend who spins her own wool was making that word up!! Just goes to show what I know. 🙄

In other news, I got an A in genetics!!! I'm giddy! 😀 Well, that could be partially due to the fact that I've been up for nearly 22 hours now. Ah, the nite shift...

I'm done with my 5 finals! I did great on everything, except maybe anatomy lecture (which was only average). I'm so happy to just be able to sit on the couch and watch some mindless tv until I can go home tomorrow!:woot:

Just found out that my semester turned out to be a 4.0!! :biglove:

I'm done! And I just signed up to take the GRE on Wednesday!

Wait, is that a rave? Ah well, They say 10-15 days for scores to be processed, and that puts me at 24 days to deadline. So it's not guaranteed, but it seems like it should go out in time. Now I just need to study and own the damn test. OWN it.

If anyone has any extra special super awesome GRE math or written study advice, send it on over. :d

I took my GRE's right on the borderline like that and they got to my schools a week before the deadline. If that makes you feel any better 😀

Sending good luck your way! :luck:

It's maybe not the best advice, but I thought I would share my story with you re: the GRE. It's kinda funny how it turned out.

So, I took it for the first time last year (09/09), and got a score I wasn't happy with (440V, 590Q, 4.0), but I didn't think I had a good shot at vet school anyway (first app cycle). So, I didn't retake it, and decided to save the money.

Well, I decided to retake it this year for my 2nd app cycle. My test date was in August, and I LITERALLY studied everyday this summer, starting in June. When I retook it, I only got 440V (same as last year!), 680Q, and 3.5 (yep, LOWER than last year!). I was livid :boom:

I decided to retake it AGAIN the weekend after I got my disappointing scores, and my mentality totally changed. I think I was so pissed about my score, that there was no room to be nervous. I totally felt like some kind of warrior or something. Anyway, I did much better - 480V, 730Q, 4.0. I know the verbal isn't great, and the writing score is just average, but I was so excited about my quant. score, and I retook it in time to have those scores count this app cycle.

So, maybe try going in pissed/determined/"warrior" mentality?? It's definitely better than nervous!!

Also, when I studied this summer, I used a princeton review book that had something like 1,000 practice questions in it, and a friend and I worked through that whole book together. I know you don't have a whole summer to work with, but doing as many problems as you can will definitely help. Also, the GRE website has a "ScoreItNow" program that costs like 10 bucks, and it lets you practice writing. The program scores your essays instantly, so it gives you an idea of how you are doing. There is also an option to be timed, so it is practice for the real test. You probably already know about the math and verbal practice tests that are on the GRE website also, but I thought I would mention it anyway. 🙂

Ugh....it's such a horrible test.....

I have just taken my very last final exam in vet school and will be starting clinics in January!! Woo hoo!!!! So exhausted, excited, and happy all at once 😀

Looking forward to some wine and a good night's sleep...

Kicked some serious butt on my genetics final. I had one of the two highest grades in two classes (81--avg was a 61). It was an online test, and it was open note, which gives you an idea of how difficult it actually was. I am sooooo pumped. I probably just secured myself an A in the class (he grades on a bell curve) :claps::biglove::banana::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:😍

It does a little, thanks! I'm not screwed without - I have the scores sent already - just want to improve chances at IS school. By doing SUPEREPICAWESOME on the test. We'll see.

Magic comb?

Glee nerd. In other news, I'm fairly sure I kicked my Endo final's ASS. Won't know for sure, since he's apparently not bothering to give us our grades - we'll just get the course grade posted on the campus website. But whatever. I had an A going in, and came out confident, and now I am DONE and can have a beer!

All this talk of everyone's awesome grades is making me wish I hadn't promised myself that I wouldn't look at mine until the next quarter starts. But then I remember that I actually want to have a nice winter break and seeing my grades would probably ruin it for me, so I'm definitely not checking at least until after New Year's.

My best friend got sick I'd hearing me whine about my interview today...so she invited me over for vodka and ice cream sandwiches 😀 and we are building a tent to camp out in the living room. Epic.

I second this! They have a great review section in the back with TONS of practice questions. I bumped my Q score from 680 to 770. I would definitely recommend Barron's. 👍👍👍

For my rave, I'm just glad to have my boyfriend back in town. It's nice to have someone to hang out with after work/volunteering. He's the best 😍.

I got a B in biochem 😀

CorporateFatCat....I just have to say I LOVE your avatar. I giggle a little every time I see it!

Agreed. Go to the local book store, pick out all of the math GRE prep books, and do all the problems you can. You don't even have to buy the books! Good luck, TT!

My honours supervisor (aka "Santa") left me a heavy book-like object all wrapped in pretty penguin paper. I want to open it sooo badly! It was soo sweet of him to do that!

My labmate and I are getting a snail mug made for him. He drinks 5 cups of coffee each day and does NOT have a snail mug. How can a malacologist NOT have a snail mug??

Hehe, I love Christmas!!!

I think Barron's was really helpful. It was either that or Princeton Review, but I think it was Barron's...I rocked the quantitative when I reviewed with Barron's; shame I tanked the verbal else I would've had a nice score.

I'm focusing on math, though I'll review verbal. I got a 640 on verbal last time - it would suck to do way worse on it, so I'm studying the words again, but I won't do terrible. I just want a batter math score. I have an older Princeton, but no Barron's. If the library doesn't have it, I might have to buy my tenth (!!) GRE book, but to be fair, three are GRE biology and I didn't buy most of them - just two or three. Haha. Or I might be able to sit at a local coffee shop for a few hours and do some problems if they have it there.

Anyway, thanks for the advice, guys. I'll let you know how things go!

All I can say is Barron's did great things for my math score. You can always get a slightly outdated edition assuming they haven't changed the math section much.

TT, I have the Barrons book. The approach was a little different, but price wise, Barrons really does have more practice for your buck, last I checked Barrons also has two CAT tests on CD that come with the book, and some very large appendices of definitions. So if practice is what you want, it is great.

1. I'm done with this semester! Woo! Only 11 more semesters (not including summer semester clinicals, so 12 I guess?) until I am done with school forever.

2. I am SO HAPPY that our 3rd timers are getting offers! Way to go guys! You totally deserve it! I really do admire you!👍

Well, I got an A in 5 classes and a B in one. So, not a bad semester. Aside from the rejections, of course.

Congrats! Great job. Keep your chin up.

I have finished my first semester of vet school, loving every minute and passing 😍

Oh, I'm alright. I just sat with the hubs and calculated what my 'last 45' would be if I had to apply again in the fall and, assuming I do well in my spring courses, I would have a 3.4-3.6. That's not perfect (damn C stuck in there) but it's not bad either, and maybe that would help me out, especially for Minnesota.

Which I haven't even heard from yet, so - lol - I should probably stop calculating things. But it helps to know that what I'm doing now will help me out eventually.

Rootin' for you on the GRE, TT! Hope you blow that damned thing right outa the water! I despise that test.

And still keeping fingers and toes crossed that you get in this year!

Hey.... third time's the charm. I don't know... I am so thankful... I remember hearing all of the people when I was first applying that said they got in after try #2 or #3 (or some even with #4) and the amount of experiences they were thankful for having with each subsequent application. I now know what they were talking about and no, had I gotten in two years ago, I don't believe I would've been ready for it. I have learned so much and am so thankful for all of the people I've been fortunate to work with. I've been able to do things that truly have shaped my perspective of veterinary medicine and what it truly means to be a good practitioner.

I'm praying that I hear good news for Christmas. The feedback I've gotten thus far seems positive, though.... so I don't know. I've done all I can do. I'm proud of everything I've accomplished and have absolutely no regrets.

There's a strange sense of peace that's overwhelmed me today after the interview. I don't know.... I wish you all could feel the way I feel about this process. (I swear, if you strapped a bp cuff on me in the interview, I know it was barely elevated....) Even when the individuals were talking about how difficult the courseload will be in vet school, the only thought that kept surging through my mind was "bring it on!"

I'm ready for this.

100% ready for this.

(now if only the AdComm felt the same way about me!!):xf::xf:
