Hubby got me a coat to ride in for Christmas. I might live in CA but it's friking cold when you're trying to ride your horse at 6:30am or 8:30 at night cuz you work all day! It's got all the zipper's and pockets in the right place. Yay!

Christmas weekend has been a huge cluster****. My car died on Christmas eve, had to scramble to find a car to borrow as all the rental places were closed or sold out and I had not one, but THREE pet sitting households this weekend, and was finally able to borrow my boss's car. I am so incredibly grateful to her for allowing me to use it all weekend until I could get a rental today, and I would have been up the creek without a paddle without her generosity.

And, to try and drown out the one HORRIFIC pet sitting client I have (take 6 cats and one basement apartment - extrapolate from there, and you pretty much get the idea), I have so many absolutely lovely clients. I showed up at one house tonight to take care of their cat, as they took their dogs with them. I arrived to find an envelope with cash in it (they overpay me), a little note reminding me where the cat's food is and asking me to water the tree, and an ADORABLE tin filled with cookies and candy and an apple. Complete with a photo Christmas card and another note telling me that the apple is for my horse. How adorable, right? I love this family so much. 😍

I got a 4.0 this semester, had a white Christmas (really didn't expect that in GA), and visited my grandma today. I'm pretty happy right now.

ETA: My SO got me a book for Christmas, No Dogs in Heaven? to be exact. I'm pretty stoked to read it. I just have to get through the rest of the interesting-but-not-interesting-enough-to-keep-reading book that I'm on right now...

Happy Holidays y'all.

While I was unable to go home to MN for Christmas (flight money is for going to interviews) I did get to go to San Jose with my best friend. Her family hosted me last year, too. This time I got a whole bunch of veterinary memoirs and books as gifts, got to see the Nutcracker ballet, and sushi yesterday!
The most unexpected and touching thing- her father gave me cash for the gas money I spent driving us up. Usually she and I split trips by paying for every other one, and she's taken me to the bay enough times that I felt I was due to pay, but he covered it! told me he didn't want my xmas money going to gas. I love my second-family.😍

United just paid me $400 in travel vouchers to give up my seat on an oversold flight tonight! 👍 I'll either get an interview ticket or two paid for, or, if I don't get any interviews, a spring break trip somewhere WARM! 🙂 And I get a whole extra day with my family and putting off working on my thesis! WIN all around!

4.0 this semester!!! :soexcited::biglove:

P.S. I'm really sorry if I've been so self-centered lately. I'm having a really hard time dealing with everyone getting acceptances/interviews (even rejections) because I couldn't apply this year like I wanted to. I am truly happy for all of you, even if I don't post it as often as I usually would have. You will all be such amazing veterinarians, and I am so honored to be attempting entrance into such a highly regarded and truly fulfilling field.

Just had an amazing time in Pittsburgh seeing my "chosen family" and my beautiful hometown. I don't get along with my actual family so my best friend's family always lets me to go their house for holidays. I hadn't seen them in 9 months and it made me SO happy to see them all. Made it safely home and got to give my boy bunny a new rug that is shaped like a Steelers football field and I am so happy to see that he will actually come out of his cage now! He hates the hardwood so now he has somewhere to walk on.

And I will be there tomorrow! Can't wait to hit up Primanti Bros! 😀

Mmmmmmmmmmmm....

I've had a great Christmas (minus the 8 hours spent in the car going to and from my parents' place in one day...). I got to see my cousins, my parents, meet my SO's extended family, and relax a bit with a family tradition-- assembling a puzzle on Christmas eve.

I just wish I had vacation time so it all didn't feel so rushed.... *sigh*

Aww tell Pittsburgh I miss it guys.
The problem being there RIGHT over Christmas was that most of the food places were closed 🙁

Decided on a list of schools for 2012 cycle (my first!). This is very scary, and is going to be very expensive 🙁

Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Penn, Tufts, Washington, Wisconsin, VMRCVM.

14 schools. Whew.

This looks almost exactly like my list for 2012. Don't worry, I'll be poor with you after applications 🙁

So... the school where my evaluator wrote the recommendation but neglected to submit it... they're allowing me to have her send it in now.

SQUEE.

This just made my life.

Phew! Dodged a bullet there, aye? 😉

And as for me, well, I come to you from my BRAND NEW LAPTOP!! My mom and dad gave me a hand-made "coupon" for a new laptop for Christmas and my mom and I went to pick it out today! I totally love it and I'm SO excited that I'll be going into vet school with a nice new computer (my old one was like 4 years old, getting to be a dinosaur in computer years!).

Oh god yes.

Another spectacular dodge... evidently, I managed to pull off an "A" in Biochem, despite tanking the final (which was a third of our grade) even worse than I'd anticipated. And I'm not talking an overachieving pre-vet student tank (oh noes, I got a "B"!!!!!!!1111!!!!!), I'm talking standard, garden-variety panic-inducing tankage.

(Thing was cumulative, but the professor decided to focus exclusively on enzyme kinetics and the enzymes of the Krebs Cycle... which were the two things I couldn't grasp and probably never will. FAIL. But... transcript WIN!)

It's been a good week. 😀

Though I will say, I am extremely jealous of all the new computers I am seeing in here as of late... 😉

Mine was going on 4 years old. As soon as I found out the hard drive was busted, I purchased a new one. I'm glad I did. They called this morning. Apparently the mother board is busted and the cost to put in a motherboard and a hard drive well exceeds the price of a new laptop. They aren't going to charge me for the parts and labour... just $29.99 to get it back. Maybe a family friend can fix it up for my mom for cheaper.

Its sooo nice to have a new toy to play with!

Windows 7 is kind of confusing... my old one had XP 😛

Oh man, I HATED enzyme kinetics, so I feel ya! I don't think I really grasped it all that well either! (even though it happened to be my prof's favorite topic. He told us ALL the time. It only made it worse!)

Congrats on the A! 👍

My new glasses came today!

I haven't had a new pair of glasses in 4 years.

The woman who fitted me said that if she had a camera, I would be going on their wall of fame. She showed a coworker and her coworker agreed. According to them, the glasses I chose were perfect for me.

I feel like a princess 😀

I crown you princess of SDN for today! (I guess I just gave myself the authority to do so)

My boyfriend and I went to tour a therapeutic riding center this morning, and we are all set up to start volunteering next Saturday. I have absolutely no experience with horses, and they are very very nice and willing to train with everything, so I am excited to get started! 👍

My boss's house caught fire last night. This is a rave because they and their infant son escaped safely, and they had just returned from vacation that day and hadn't yet picked up their animals from boarding at the hospital. The fire is a tragedy, but the safety of their entire family is a miracle.

Start my awesome internship tomorrow!!!! 😀

Semester GPA 3.571
Cumulative GPA 3.031

I am just..so happy right now.
Take that, Old Self.

Our stats are very similar, and I couldn't have said it better myself ("Take that, old self") To say "I haven't always been the best student" would be a huge understatement 😀

Congrats!

Thank you!

Yeah, I think it takes a student like me to appreciate breaking across the 3.0 mark. I know a lot of people are probably like uh, what's this a RAVE about? But reaching this point from where I was is definitely a rave for me! 😉

Finally the last of my marks are in! Straight As this semester! 😀

Are those American As or Canadian As? lol
Just teasing 😉

Already posted this on my AVC thread, but since I have posted a lot of rants lately, I thought I would post this in the Rave thread.

My biochem prof jipped me of 5 points on my final exam and my mark increased by 3 points. I'm glad I went and looked the final over. My mark still isn't spectacular, but I'll take what I can get. It upped my vet school average a smidge... so I'm happy 😀

Considering that chemistry and I don't get along... and that this was my fourth exam in four days... and considering my chemistry marks were 57-64 before I applied to vet school... I'm happy.

I'm taking organic II this semester... I was already sent 57 pages of notes to print off... BRING IT ON.

The format of this class is different from all of the chemistry classes I've taken so far... she gives us lots of assignments and if the entire class does poorly, she lets us do additional assignments to boost our marks. :xf:

If that is a joke, I'm not aware of it.

At my university, an 85 is an A-.
At others, an 80 is an A-.
It varies I guess.

I guess that's why my university focuses on number grades and not on letter grades.

Haha, I don't want to rain on Coquette's parade. She's a smart girl. I know she did well and I'm excited for her.

Thanks guys! And, yes, SH, you're my homegirl. I know you didn't mean any offense.

And we can brave O Chem II together! I've got my mental war paint on for 8:30 AM tomorrow morning. I have a free hour between O Chem and my next class, so my plan is to use that hour to review the lecture material after every single lecture. I will suck at the lab, but as long as I pass the lab portion, I don't care. But I will rock the rest of the class, come Hell or high water!

Seriously, congratulations. That's an amazing accomplishment. Digging out is not a task for the faint of heart. Actually doing it is incredible.

A close colleague died suddenly last week and today was the memorial service. I'm posting this as a rave because it was a lovely service and it was wonderful to see so many people come and say so many beautiful things about a person that only a few of us at work knew the 'warm and fuzzy' side of...

Spending the week in the neuro unit at school and loving it! Not 100% sure I want to go back to class on Monday, but I'm getting excited to see all of my classmates again.

At my university an A- was a 90. Pretty sure that's standard for the US (well if you're lucky enough to not have +/- grades it would be an A). Anyone know why they are different?

To my knowledge other countries do different things with grades. For example, I took some courses in South Africa and 70-100 was an A. I thought it was super weird at the time but since I ended up with As in both classes on my transcript I'm not complaining!

This morning, I woke up to an e-mail informing me that the disappearing evaluation letter debacle has been resolved... favorably. I'm still in the running! 👍

While birthday shopping for a relative, I found the most gloriously tacky, obnoxious children's shoes at Marshall's. On sale. In my size. 👍

FailCat's BG was good (by FailCat standards)... I think we've found his new magic number. 👍

It's been a good day! (I felt the need to rave, seeing as the coming rejections of the next few weeks are probably going to incite much ranting. 😉)

where were you in South Africa? I'm from Durban..

where were you in South Africa? I'm from Durban..

The classes were out of the University of Pretoria. The courses were Ecosystems & Wildlife Management and Participatory Nature Conservation. We spent the majority of our time out in the bush. We even took all of our exams out there. We stayed pretty much north of Joburg, the closest we came to Durban was passing by the border of Swaziland.

I loved SA and am dying to go back. There's so much that I want to see that I didn't get to see while I was there!

I miss it a lot...I haven't been back since 2006 and it's slowly eating away at my soul!

AND for my RAVE: I am very excited to be called off the 'B' list from Kansas but what's even better than that??? scb44f (who I haven't seen since our VIDA trip...) is driving down and picking me up from the airport and coming WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 😍 yay for friends! 🙂

So... my first attempt at college? Abysmal failure. Abysmal.

I took some time off. Went back. Advisor went into hysterics when I expressed an interest in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. He may or may not have implied that I was delusional... and I may or may not have snuck off and had a veritable nervous breakdown in the bathroom down the hallway. But I digress.

This morning?

I got my first interview invite! :soexcited:

No, it's not an acceptance... but it's a start. And if I do manage to get in?
I am so mailing that dude a copy of my acceptance letter. :meanie:
