RAVE HERE thread

Weird, it shows up on mine. How do I post a picture that actually shows up?

If it is hosted online somewhere (i.e. photobucket or the like), you can insert the URL after clicking on the typical "insert image" icon in the advanced reply window. You can also attach it using the paperclip icon, though the paperclip icon makes it small and hard to see sometimes.

okay, trying again. this one isn't mine, it is the one from the website and mine is cuter than this one, but it's basically this. does it finally show?

That's so strange, thedogisgreen! Apparently it doesn't want you to share what you're excited about 😕.

I got an email from my fiance today and now my plan is to go look at a house on Friday to rent. 3 BR, 2 bath with a fenced yard... I'm stoked to not have an apartment (or a house that I share with 2 people and their 3 dogs!). I hope it's feasible, and that the landlord likes us!

I also just got back from a really great run. I didn't go as long as I wanted, but my heart rate was up in a good range the whole time. I also really enjoy the feeling of breaking a mad sweat while working out only to turn up the fans and cool down afterward.

It's St. Pat's! Yes, I know the actual holiday isn't until next week, but my school starts festivities 2 weeks early and we have a countdown starting 100 days before the holiday. I get Thursday and Friday off for the 103-year-old tradition.

👍

I'm starting up the Couch to 5K this spring again and hope to have worked my way up to about 6 miles by the end of the summer! Kudos for getting it done!

I've been trying to work up to 10K.. reached 3.5 miles today before walking up to 4.. almost there! 😎 Get it get it Ellie & W/out!

Also.. going to Italy and Ireland this summer to visit family and spend some time! I'm so EXCITED!! 😀

[Edit] Annndd one of my best friends is coming back next week from 3 months away doing military stuff.. AND!! Seeing one of my fav artists this Thursday!
😍

I love it! That's the cutest thing ever....your mom is awesome! Congrats on getting into vet school 😀

It's really cute! Congrats by the way on your acceptance!

Sooo pumped for the weekend... there will be presentations, meeting other research students, getting all dressed up, banquets, awards, possibly an SDN meet-up, and I possibly get to have dinner with my bestest long-distance friend in the entire world (and RAAANNNTTT and relieve stress)

I've attended the last two conferences... it's soo cool to actually be involved in one this time.

That is hands down the cutest flower arrangement ever!

Best. Glee. EVERRR.

Really?? I'm a glee fan "glee-k" but I was seriously disappointed. I think the only thing that saved Gwyneth Paltrow was the Fleetwood Mac song. She has to go!

Gah, I dislike that they're sticking Gwyneth Paltrow in there too, but I must say I'm a sucker for the fact that they just hand Santana come out. I haven't seen a high school aged lesbian on "mainstream" TV since I think South of Nowhere and it's about time.

I liked them singing Landslide too, however I was surprised that they didn't sing the Fleetwood Mac version; I'm almost positive that was the Dixie Chicks version.

Ooh and I also loved that Kurt's dad sat down and talked to him. So sweet 😍

There's an ABCfamily show "Pretty little liars" where one of the main characters is a lesbian. But I agree its not common. I guess while theres nothing wrong with the dixie chicks I think that only further lowers my opinion of GP.

Oh yes, I heart everything Kurt! More Kurt!

Avid Glee watcher and I agree, EllieG, times a million! I actually really like GP, though - think her character is fun! I also really like the Dixie Chicks version of landslide (which I'm pretty sure it was, too) but overall just a nice song.

Yay Glee 😀

Instead of being healthy and having a salad tonight, I made a huuuuge bowl of oatmeal with tons of brown sugar and cranberries and coconut. Stress eating is REAL.

8 DAYS UNTIL SPRING BREAK. It needs to get here NOW!!!

On the way home I remembered that I need a red shirt for going to the Humane Society tomorrow to shadow the veterinarian. I stopped at the thrift store to see if they had anything suitable. The first shirt I picked up was a new, size small, red volunteer shirt from the Humane Society that cost 49 cents.

Well considering I couldn't walk away from the egg and cheese biscuit in the cafeteria this morning, I needed to do a liiiiittle bit better than the milkshake I really wanted for dinner.

If it makes you feel any better, so far my dinner has consisted of: a beer, a bag of popcorn, and some Whole Foods flour tortilla chips (OM NOM NOM). And next up: chocolate! 😀

A paper I wrote was selected to be presented at the 2011 American Sociological Association conference! I'm so, so, so excited. Free trip to Las Vegas, yay!

YYYAAAAAYYYYY!!!!! I aced 2nd microbio test😀

i found a subletter who fits perfectly into the weird time frame i needed, and it seems like she will get along well with the rest of the house. yay, i won't need to pay for rent for any of the time that i'm gone, and the first person i showed the place to worked out! 🙂🙂🙂

I got to dissect a dog heart today during a necropsy, and got to sew the dog back up afterwards to practice suturing!

Also I am thoroughly enjoying watching my cat stare out the window, waiting for another clump of snow to fall off the roof. He's having a grand time.

I've been trying to contact an equine practice in my area to get some shadowing experience before I begin vet school in the fall. The vet just called me back (finally!) though I just missed the call. I called him right back and left the worst voice message ever! I just couldn't get the words out of my mouth. Now he'll think I'm a blundering idiot 🙄. But this is still a rave because he said I can ride along with him whenever I want. Just gotta wait for him to call me back now and hope that I can articulate myself.

I just got back from my micro society meeting. We filmed a microbiology themed music video for the science gala this year. We're a shoo-in to win. 😉

Fixed it. 😉

There is a thread around here somewhere in which I speak about how these things bother me, like saying it's a 'mute' point (moot!) or to 'hone' in on (home!) or, one of my favorites, for all 'intensive' purposes (for all INTENTS and purposes, lol).

Just a 'thing' I have. 😀

ETA: And for the random bit of knowledge for the day, these are called 'eggcorns' for some odd reason. 🙂

OMG That stuff drives me crazy tooooo! I knew a girl who instead of saying "might as well" would write "mide-as-well" complete with the hyphens. Like, WTF does that even mean? Mide-as-well? What's a mide?

Fixed it. 😉

Really? I've actually never seen it written, so thanks! I'm a pedant too. My biggest annoyance is "might/would/could/should of". As in, "You should of gone." No, "You should have gone". 🙄 I also know way too many people (all of which seem to be British) who tend to write "th"s as "ff"s. As in "It's a luffly day". I know you know the difference and I don't care how you might pronounce it, but spell it right!

One of my biggest pet peeves is spoken, not written. A lot of people who speak Spanish as their first language and English as their second say "What you did today?" instead of "What did you do today?". Drives me up the damn wall! It took me about a year to completely break my boyfriend of doing it but now I work at a place where basically everyone is originally from a Latin country. They probably think I'm nuts when they use that verb wrong and I yell out "What did you do!!!!!".

I actually had a professor last quarter, a PhD educated man, who used the word "irregardless" on a daily basis. Like, seriously? I thought people only used that to joke around. I didn't think there were ACTUALLY people who used that word, and certainly not people with the title DOCTOR before their name!

Aha! Here are some good ones I always forget until I see them.

Peak/pique is a good one. And OH MY GOODNESS it takes so much effort to not correct when people say that they are 'weary' of something... it's wary! Bah! You guys do that! I see it here! You! *points*

Errrr... yeah. Anyway. Also. Tenterhooks. Yep.

I am very excited that I, a small animal city girl, officially own a pair of steel-toed boots. Can I just say that farm work wear is totally fab? I don't think I've ever owned a pair of pants that fit me better than the carhartts I just bought. 😍

Maybe I'll become a large animal vet after all. I do have a soft spot for the cows... 🙄

I was an English major, and spent my entire college career copy editing for various websites, the school newspaper, and all of my friends' papers - still do everyone's resumes and cover letters.

Trust me. A little piece of my soul dies every time someone misuses/misspells words like that. I literally copy edit our appointment schedule at work because the receptionist will not remember that "a lot" is two words. Also one of our techs loves Twilight. :barf:

I groomed a horse for the first time tonight! It really is therapeutic 🙂

As for the correct English thing...I flipped out once because I heard Richard Attenborough say the word "orientated" on a documentary. Isn't that, like, not a word?? Correct me if I'm wrong..

SPRING BREAK!

That is all.

It's much more common in Britain than it is over here. Technically, it is correct... but it sounds a bit strange to us.

Ohh that sounds like it was so much fun. \😀/ Its been so long since I have been close to a horse, maybe 20+ years. I know my brother and his wife just bought another horse, I think I'll visit them this weekend. 😎/

Only one more anatomy exam left to go this semester - thank goodness!!! It's sad that I'm actually excited to study anything but the pelvic cavity and limb this weekend. Sitting down with breakfast right now to start on immuno and physio for next week and then Spring Break!!!

Haha, I totally agree.....How about....."What it is?" Arrrgggg It is supposed to be "What is it?"

Also when people say "there" when they should be using "their" or "they're"......and when they mix up its and it's.........and it really bugs me when they mix up whether and weather.

Haha it is hilarious when Bear Grylls says disorientated...its sounds so wrong:laugh:

Biggest writing-related pet peeve:

One of my professors actually had to take time out of class to lecture us on the fact that using text-speak in formal college term papers was not appropriate.

😱

Seriously?

Meet with the Dean of Admissions last week to discuss my application status and was told, "You should be very optimistic...looking forward to seeing your application." Whoot-whoot! Also, I was told not to concern myself with re-taking Organic or Biochem because my pre-req GPA will not suffer if I do not retake it! YEEEAAAAYYY!

I am, of course, still very nervous and apprehensive about the whole ordeal, but hoping for the best.

SURVIVED MY SCHOOL'S INSANITY aka PARADE DAY.

Rango is a must see movie (It's PG, but it's a great movie - esp. if you're a Johnny Depp fan 🙂)

And, I'm figuring out my life/self diagnosing (lol) but I think it's pretty spot on and explains more than it doesn't.

The only minor dislike: Monday is coming. Yet, at this time next week, I will be in ARUBA 😍

Ran my 8k today with 9.5 minute miles. It felt really really good. 🙂

Next year it will be 7.5 minute miles. :xf:

Kudos to you! I'm so jealous. Last year started training for a marathon and my hip decided to rebel and I ended up with a labral tear. 👎

Anyhow... my rave for today: Weather is finally starting to be decent! It's 39 outside now and I was able to walk to the coffee shop (a good 2.5 miles) to sit and work on my paper. Felt sooooo good to go for a long walk 🙂 Soon I'll be pulling out my bike to start training for the 150 mile ride we're doing this summer :woot:
