I finished undergrad in May and after a lot of frustration over sending resumes/cover letters for jobs all summer and not hearing back from pretty much anyone at all, I got TWO interview invites in about an hour today! One would only be ~7 hrs/week (but any paid time is still money...), but the other's a vet assistant job, which I would be so so excited to get.
I'm trying to have no hope for these, since I know an interview doesn't mean much, but I was getting to the point where I was excited when jobs were even just acknowledging they received my info, so interviews are super super exciting.

EG: I can completely agree with loving classmates. Really, I feel like everyone is so open and friendly and I just love the other 62 people. For the first time in my life, I feel like I can pick a random table at lunch and go sit with people and just jump into whatever conversation is going on.

I'm really excited about Animal Production Systems. I'm really looking forward to the farm field trips every second Wednesday. Oh and in case I haven't said it enough, the SDN crew at AVC is AWESOME. 👍

After a HORRIBLE weekend at work, these last two days have been awesome and I am actually looking forward to heading back in tonight 👍. Actually talked to the manager about the horrible vet and she is very understanding and I guess that other techs. have talked to her about how the vet treats me (apparently she seems to have something against me, on Sunday she was on my case the entire evening and I couldn't do anything right in her eyes). It was so nice to be able to vent to someone who had some say in things. She told me there was once a vet there she felt the same way about and she knows the feeling I have. She recommended I sit down and talk to the vet I have issues with, but I don't think I can do that. The only thing I have going for me with this vet right now is that she doesn't know how much that what she does gets to me, I don't want to give her the satisfaction of knowing that. Of course that might be what she's going for and might get worse until she knows she is driving me nuts. If it is personal, though (and I don't see it that way, she seems in general to be very unhappy and rude to everyone just more so to me) and I have done or said something that made her mad I would like to know, because I have tried my hardest to be respectful and kind to her even though she is mean to me. I'd hate for it to be just a misunderstanding, but I have a feeling the issue is much deeper and this doctor is just an unhappy, uncaring person that is hard to deal with. But, I don't have to deal with her again for over a week and the other vets are awesome and I am loving going in and learning new things.

Oh, and I successfully got a blood pressure on a sick cat yesterday for the first time 🙂. Took me about 10 minutes, but I got it, it was an awesome feeling. Small success but made my day 🙂.

just finished my very very very (read: VERY VERY VERY) rough draft of my PS today!

it's rambling and way too long and probably terrible but at least i got it done!

A number of small successes and progress on my applications has this week turning out better than I thought.

#1--I don't have to mop floors at work anymore! My boss has finally sacked up and hired our handyman on for extra hours really focusing on the floors (one of my boss's #1 pet peeves). I am so happy because it leaves me more time to focus on patients and setting up for the next day of surgeries/treatments. Plus, (and I know this is a snooty statement) I'm a college grad now, I didn't get a degree to be mopping floors.

#2--I had my hands in a dog's abdomen yesterday. I've been scrubbing in to assist with a couple of surgeries recently but it's mostly to organize instruments, moisten tissue, and hold legs in correct positioning for ACL repairs. But yesterday was a cryptorchid bulldog whose testicle was just impossible to find and so I was holding his bladder to the side while Doc searched. All I could think was "OMG, I have my hand inside of a dog...this is awesome". Oh, and the testicle was found outside the abdominal wall in the wrong orientation. very interesting surgery and longest neuter I've ever seen!

#3--I have completely scrapped my 1st PS draft and am pretty much finished with number 2. I feel a lot better about this draft but it's still not there yet.

I've really been missing my college town where my boyfriend lives so having these small victories are really helping me through living in a place I don't really want to be. So...hooray!

Tried on my wedding dress today, and after modifying what I eat and my exercise routine for the last month or so, it fit amazingly well! I was hoping it would because I recently tightened my belt by a notch, but it was exciting nonetheless 🙂

went for a swim today and saw at least 10 different kinds of fish of all different colors, and saw several large purple sea urchins! makes studying endlessly for histology and physiology more bearable haha

I'm a lil bit jelly, but I don't think I need the availability of all that awesome stuff as a distraction! Lol. It's bad enough living near a coffee place.

In my grand effort to put my sorry butt back into shape, I bought a pair of trail shoes this week and went for a trail 'run'/hike today. I was thrilled that I rarely leave home without a camera because lookie what I stumbled upon...

Turns out it's one of several cave houses from the 1600s that monks lived in while awaiting the end of the world...

Also, I ran into this beautiful fella on my way out of the woods...

Can't wait to see what I run into next time I go out!

Aww, beautiful butterfly shot, LMMS, thanks!

The AVC c/o 2015 went to the harness racing at the Charlottetown Driving Park tonight. It was freaking hilarious. I made $2.50 betting on a horse named Hornswoggle and $1.25 on a horse named Unfluffnbelieveable. Then lost $5.00 on Thistricksforyou. There was a race specifically named for the AVC 2015 class and we got to present a prize blanket and take a photograph with the winning horse and driver.

Congrats on the interviews! Have you heard anything yet? :xf:
Although I'm still in school, I have been in a similar position...a 1,001 resumes sent out, all with hope and excitement only to not hear a word from anything - volunteer/job shadow/paid position from anyone anywhere. But I'm still hopeful! I'm sure something will pop up.

Congrats on the interviews! Have you heard anything yet? :xf:

I showed up the fewer hours one (which will really only be 3 hrs/week, but is an after school science program for elementary school kids that I did as a kid, so I'm really excited to do now as a leader) and we're talking about the program, my experience with kids, and all of the sudden, the interviewer is like, "okay, well, here's the I-9 and here are tax forms." !!!

Haven't heard back from the other yet... But thanks for the good luck! I'm hoping it works out well!

And I'm surprised volunteer places haven't been getting back to you. So strange. At least where I've been volunteering, everywhere has been incredibly welcoming and excited to have new people to help out.

I Aced my first vet school test today!!!!! So excited 🙂

I understand chemistry. For the first time I am not scared of a chemistry test. I have one on Tuesday and I feel so prepared. I used to always be terrified of my chem tests, but so far it's very easy to me. :]

I found a new barn to ride at and the owner seems wonderful. So far my trainers have always acted like they were better than everybody else at everything. This one is so nice and so willing to work around my schedule and understands that I won't have the money for one or two lessons every single week. I can just come out and ride her horses on my own. I'm even allowed to jump them when she's not there. She also works at the UGA vet school/clinic and said she said she wants to find me an opportunity to help/shadow there with a vet or a researcher because she knows everyone there. I never expected to get that there because I figured with the vet students they already had more than enough help. I am so very excited! 😀

PetPony - when I shadowed at my in-state vet school, the students were actually the ones who highly appreciated my help! Having an extra hand to go grab a leash, pass the thermometer, hold a vein or anything along those lines seemed really appreciated - I was asked back by several students, hehe.

As my Rave - I'm studying abroad in Finland right now. I have eaten at least ten things I was unsure of in the last five days. This. is. awesome.

I'm very excited for it. I thought I'd have to find a place farther away from college and was worried about getting there. The vet school is 2 minutes away on the bus from where I live. :]

I've never been in Finland, but European countries in general are pretty awesome. When i still lived in Germany, we used to travel a lot to other countries. Always awesome.

one of the new emergency vets in the ER/ICU where i work (who is also board certified) and who i WORSHIP has offered to write me a LOR!!! she knows that it's due soon and still offered to write me one even though i didn't even think of asking her one because i thought she would say no!

this made me so happy 🙂 i've only had one of my other LOR writers actually OFFER to write me one before i even asked them...
😀

My rabies arm hurts.

But at least I have a cool new super power that few humans posses!

Haha! At my internship, there were a lot of feral cats running around on the farm. I only allowed myself to catch them because I'm rabies vaccinated. Everyone else just got to stand and watch me make a fool of myself. Hopefully you won't feel any of the other icky side effects. 🙂

Did well on my first vet school exam! I promise myself at the beginning I wouldn't discuss numbers/letters with people, which I am glad I decided. Happy to say that I did well, though!

But tomorrow we have anatomy, so, you know, my happiness is short-lived.

Ditto to both. Good luck!! :luck:

Watching my long-hair chi-mix chase her tail makes me really happy. Especially when she gets dizzy and loses her balance or when she smacks into stuff.

...

Does this make me a bad owner? 🙄

i get to see my Boyfriend in 20 days!!!! :soexcited: i haven't seen him since the beginning of august, but plane tickets are booked, i am going out to Idaho for fall break it may only be for 3 days but anything is better then nothing!!!

I keep looking at pictures of my wedding dress, and I'm stoked to wear it and marry my best friend in May!! (Things have obviously gotten back to normal life since the anatomy exam is over lol.)

As a fellow long-distance-relationshipper - YAY! That is the best feeling! I see mine next weekend! 😀

As someone who suffered and lost on that fateful day 10 years ago, I am beyond moved to see what has become of the site that makes a hole in the greatest skyline I have ever known. Growing up outside of NYC, it still breaks my heart to see the emptiness that now stands opposite of Jersey City. However, the memorial placed at the feet of the Towers is, in my opinion, not only a thing of beauty, but a beautiful way to 'fill' that hole. Granted, we cannot have these individuals back, but they will remain in our hearts and memories forever.

Well done, Memorial Jury, well, done...

I hadn't seen that website, thank you. It is so hard for me to not be with my family this weekend. I'm looking forward to a trip back home when I can see the new memorials-- both the ones at Ground Zero, and the ones in my hometown/my uncle's hometown.

Never Forget.

IIIIIIIIIIIIII got tat numberrr thrrreeeeee!

edit: if you can't tell, it's a cupcake with brass knuckles 😉

Libster06, how'd you think of that one?

A) I make cupcakes as a little more than a hobby. I have been obsessed with them for about a year and a half now and I make them all the time, and crank out some pretty legit stuff. Ask anyone at LSU!

B) Brass knuckles in the frosting are because I am sweet but don't eff with me 😉

My new scrubs came in the mail and I just tried them on. They fit perfectly. They must be the most comfortable clothes I have ever owned and because I'm staying inside to study all day anyways, I'm keeping them on. :]

That's so sweet! I love it! haha. I am going to a shop to talk to an artist about a tattoo that I've wanted for a while. I'm super excited, it'll be my first🙂.

I finished my second time volunteering at a wildlife rehab place this morning and it was so cool! I never thought cleaning cages could be so fun! After feeding baby squirrels for about four hours straight last time, it was so exciting to see everything else. (However, this confirms my general observation that squirrels are crazy crazy little animals.)
At the volunteer orientation, the founder of the place was talking about how it can become addictive and I kind of laughed at that a little. Nope, totally see how now. One of the other women this morning has been volunteering every week for 19 (!!!) years.

I love my horse! At one time, I was a bit of a fearful rider and I used to get really tense at any gait faster than a jog. Even to the point of crying and shaking. My horse was green when I got him but really calm. I was an experienced rider but due to some bad riding accidents in the past, my confidence was shot. We had our ups and downs and he tested my confidence a time or two. We've continued to worked with trainers as well as my very knowledgable horse friends. I could never afford to actually send him to a trainer so I was forced to work at it myself, with knowledgable people along side me. He's matured so much over the last few years and now, I couldn't ask for a more perfect horse. He has the most lovely personality and I really can't get enough of him. I feel like we have both come such a long way. I wish I had videos of our riding lessons and clinics from when I first got him almost 3 years ago.

Second rave: I started looking around for a part time job today working on a dairy farm. I visited 4 farms and by the end of the day I had two job offers!

Third rave: I have two payments left on my car and a relatively small line of credit that was taken out for school last year. With my new p/t job salary going 100% to my other loan payments....as of January, I will be 100% debt free! Just in time for 4 years of vet school! .....Hopefully.

Congrats on all of those things, Lab Rat. I've never had my own horse, bit I'd work with different horses for a few months each usually and it was amazing. Accomplishing different things with them is such an amazing feeling. It reminds me why I wanted to start riding so bad when I was a little kid. It's so rewarding. :]

And it's awesome that you're paying everything off! Always great!

My car broke down almost two weeks ago and the repair was estimated at $3,800. I called today to check on her, and they told me that she will be ready tonight and that the bill is only $100! I guess my Dad forgot that he bought the extended warranty when he bought the car 6 years ago. The $100 is the deductible. Yayyyyy!!!😀

I just finished my first chem exam and I made a 95! I am so happy! Now I don't have to worry about having to bring up a bad grade, but can relax at least a little bit. :]

Happy Birthday, twelvetigers!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

had my mom read my second draft of my PS and she said she loved it and was in tears for some of it...this version of my PS is really personal and close to my heart so i'm really glad that at least SOMEONE likes it 🙂
