i finally got around to finishing cleaning out the toaster oven I bought to have for baking yesterday! I have made cinnamon bread and cupcakes tonight. the bread looked like a disaster but tasted good; the cupcakes look AND taste amazing. so excited to have an oven again!!!

One of our anatomy profs, in an introductory lecture on the nervous system, summarized the difference between sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions this way:

"When you are ejaculating, it's poor form to pee."

Grade school humor never goes out of style. To his credit, I'll never forget the difference.

When explaining the difference to us, they used the "bear is chasing you" story (which every teacher here uses) and said that you don't want to pee when you're running away from the bear. However, he had just talked about ejaculation and what we gathered is that you may orgasm as you're running away from the bear, but you probably shouldn't pee.

I just got to help do embryo flushes on Bison! Which are apparently very different from buffalo!

Parasympathetic points, sympathetic shoots.

My new puppy Callie is feeling much better after a diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia earlier this week. She's eating, drinking water, and has some energy. Hopefully this means she's on the mend. We'll see when she gets follow up chest rads next week! I have a feeling that I'm going to have my hands full when she is back at 100% though. She's younger than we thought and has some very puppy-ish habits. Like pulling on the leash, jumping, and chewing up my shoes. I've got a lot of work ahead of me, i think. 😛

I just found out that one of my best friends is pregnant!! I'm a little peeved it was via Facebook, but I'm going to assume that's how she told everyone who wasn't her/her husband's immediate family. So exciting!

I'll post this under raves, even though it's just...awkward. I found out (via Facebook, holla) that a guy I was in a relationship with for 6 years is marrying one of my friends. Happy for them both, but it's still just a bit weird. (like should I post congrats even though his whole family is on her Facebook and I don't know if that would piss them off?)

What makes it kind of a rave is that I woke up one day and realized that what he wanted (married in the suburbs with 2.5 kids and a white picket fence) was totally NOT what I wanted. And I dumped him, and he was crushed, and I felt 100% better (not that he was crushed, but that I figured it all out)! So yay for...personal revelations!

I got my first tattoo today. So happy. I have been trying to decide on what to get for months and it came out really good. 😀
i envy you DVMDream, i've been trying to gather up the courage to a) pierce my nose and b) get a tattoo. i have the courage for neither right now but i really want to get both before i go to vet school! :scared:

what did you get a tattoo of and where, if you don't mind me asking? i really want to get one on my wrist or the back of my shoulder/shoulder blade.

Here is a picture of it. The butterfly on the left is a turquoise color it is kind of hard to see. It is on my right ankle.

That's awesome! Hope she gives you many happy years of frustration.

Got to see a dog get its face removed today because it had squamous cell carcinoma in its nasal cavity. It was awesome!

Very cute! I would have too hard of a time deciding what to get for a tatoo. There are just too many delicious possibilities. Like a nastyass honey badger....

Hehe, I never would have expected....

Also, congrat Kakuru! :highfive: Jobs are always super exciting.

Thanks Trilt!

I'm super excited but also really nervous (though I suppose that's pretty normal!). Can't wait to start next week!

My husband got a day job! His schedule has STUNK the last few years. He works 11:30pm-8am. Never has 2 days off in a row because he works weekends as well....

NOW, his schedule is going to be 7am-3:30pm and he only works 2 Saturdays a month. I might actually see him sometimes and I won't have to use the line, "No, I'll be the only one, my husband works nights and will be asleep then." OR "Sorry, our only bathroom is in our bedroom so you'll have to tiptoe in and not turn on the light till the door is closed so he won't wake up" OR "shhh.....GUYS. GUYS!!! SHUT UP. Hubby is sleeping!!"

😍 HAPPY!

Oh, that is awesome! My dad has always worked nights and it's such a crappy schedule (not only for the worker, but for everyone else, too!). Couldn't imagine my husband working a schedule like that....so happy for you two! (But steer clear of him while he adjusts to the new sleep schedule!)

Michigan State Spartans beat the weasels (aka the university of michigan) for the fourth year in a row today!!! 👍 GO GREEN! 😀

My free netbook came! I'm going to use it to take notes for Immunology tomorrow.

I got an iPhone 4S AND an iPad 2 for my birthday yesterday! I <3 my family

I won it in a contest from a website that up until now I was pretty convinced was a scam. 😀

Wow! Jealous!

My rave: I cooked dinner tonight!!! I miss cooking. I didn't do anything fancy, just some chicken breasts to eat later in the week, spicy roasted potatoes and some steamed veggies. It felt really nice to sit down and eat a real meal for the first time in over a week, instead of just heating leftovers/eating free vet school handouts.

Also, my histo practical didn't spank me!

AND the cats are cuddling and getting along and generally kitty-lovin' all over the place.

Good day all around.

My boyfriend is AMAZING!😍 I can't wait to see him next week!!!

It's been over two days with no raves, so...

I love my new job. The clinic is great, all the other techs are so helpful, the vets are all pretty great to work with, and so far all the clients I've met have been absolutely great to work with, which is just so helpful. I'm excited to go to work in the morning and 10 hours goes by quickly for the first time in what seems like forever. And I'm getting paid for all this!

Said awesome boyfriend got accepted to pharmacy school! Yay!

I have a weekend to myself. This is a rave. I passed my first vet school class, also a rave. What a week.

Congrats, TT!

I have some raves! My boyfriend is visiting and we're having a great time. My apartment is clean. I'm caught up with homework. I think I understand renal physiology. I'm wearing some new yoga pants.

Vet school really makes me appreciate things I once took for granted. 😉

i have a new hobby/obsession. mailing letters and postcards to my unsuspecting friends in the US. every part of the process is fun. picking out a card, writing the message, adding "United States" to the address, and taking it to the bookstore to buy stamps and then use a glue stick to attach them. such fun! and postage is pretty cheap here. 😀

Rave: Physiology wasn't nearly as bad this morning as it could have been. And now, just two more midterms left. Animal behiavour/welfare on Thursday, histology on Friday.

And yet, 5 hours of anatomy in one day. The less-bad physiology exam does not make up for this 🙁

that sounds unbelievably awful!!!!! but maybe thats just my extreme distaste for anatomy speaking. or really, just my lab group. 15 more classes seems like an eternity, AHHHH. I swear my one lab partner is on drugs because half the days she is psychotically weird and hyper and the other half shes a psycho grump. there is no "normal" in between and i have just had it with working with her because it is impossible!!
:boom:

The two hour lecture I found was worse than the 3 hour lab. Of course, I wasn't strong enough to crack the pelvis, so J ended up doing most of the work. Thank gods for him! 😍

Slip her some ace.
