Neighbor baked us the most amazing chocolate chip cookies I've ever tasted. I'm not sure if this belongs in the rave thread because they're so unbelievably delicious, or the rant thread because I'm eating far, far too many of them. 😳

That is awesome!! I remember when my sister was on deployment, it was hard. She has now served her 4 years and just ended her stint with the Navy about 6 weeks ago. I don't think she has ever been happier. 🙂

Have a good time with the boy when he gets back. Is he planning on making the military a permanent job or is he going to leave once his term is over?
 
i just threw out all of my old vet school application materials and rejection letters. idk why they all just got stuffed in a drawer until now, but i'm a 3rd year and i dont need it!!

Thank you so much guys, it has been a long and hard road.. Zach left for Afghan at the worst possible time- the middle of midterm week of my final semester of UG ( this past october). I can still remember sitting in a Repro study session and having a mental/ emotional breakdown thinking about all the what ifs that come with a deployment to a war zone. Some how I pulled myself together, and now 9 months later I can't believe we are so close to the end! I never knew how strong I was, and I've seen just how strong we are as a couple! I can't wait to marry him on Aug 19 th 😀 😀

DVMD- he is not sure yet. One day he wants out, the next day he thinks he will stay in. I keep telling him to not make up his mind until he is home and back to his normal duty station- afghan is not exactly the best place to determine your overall happiness in the Army... Bc right now everyone is hating it lol..

Honestly, I hope he will stay in- reup his contract and request a transfer to fort Leonardwood , Missouri. At least that way we are 2 hours away from eachother and he has a stable job while I'm in school. He can also get more medical training from the army ( he's a medic) so that when he does get out eventually, he will have better job prospects. But we will see! I'm just ready to have him safe on the ground in the US... All of my worries will disappear!

This made me laugh, I took care of a sheep patient yesterday and took him on a walk outside... no one could understand how amused I was that he was so good on the leash!

um, I did not know you can walk sheep on a leash, but that is awesome and totally on my list of things I want to do someday.

it is July. In Oklahoma. and the weather forecast is for 80's all week with lows in the sixties. Love this. to top it all off, there's no burn ban so I am sitting outside by the chiminea with a beer in hand. and the rotation I'm on actually let's me have time to do this! I am one happy vet student right now

Nice! It's similar here, high 80s low 90s rest of the week. This cooler spell is awesome. It was only like 86, today. Helluva lot better than the 100+ all last week.

Agreed. The weather is awesome right now. Glad you are getting a deserved break.

The thing is, I don't know if he had even been on a leash before. But he just followed me around. He was much better at it than my dog...

You deserve it! And I, too, am glad that OK didn't try to kill me with heat after I got back from Montana... it's actually hotter up there than it is here right now, and that's just weird. But I'm not complaining.

I just finished sewing a new pillow for my the guest room! Now the guest bedroom in the Fleur de Lis House actually has some fleur de lis in it. 😀 It's also the most complicated sewing project I've finished to date since it's got patchwork sort of stripes.
 
Going to the lake tomorrow, the new equine ICU team is getting hired on soon (relieving me and my co-captain of being on-call), I might be able to do a rotation at UC Davis (which means I could visit Heylodeb + other Davis people AND my sister who will be in San Francisco by then). It's going to be a great summer 🙂

Only a couple of days of work left, and they ordered lunch today to see me off 😀 Also, my house is closing early next week, and everything is going so so smoothly!! Yay!!

Last week at the large animal campus it would be raining on one end of the barn and not the other. Super weird.

Pretty sure it's the whole east coast. NC's considered "Mid-Atlantic" I found out last week. I haven't seen a day without rain in what feels like forever.
 
Other than shenanigans this morning trying to save another bird that was faking and not injured, today was nice. I locked my keys, phone, and a wild bird in my running car. After calling various pop a lock places I got the cheapest one to come out and it turns out he knew the woman who let me use her phone and did it for free. He told me to pay it forward. 😀

There's a company that will do it free if animals are locked in the car 🙂. Can't remember the name of it.

Oh my gosh I didn't even think of that. It was freezing in my car when they got it open. The bird flew out and the guys was like "uhhh....you weren't kidding" lol...sadly, no.
