Attempted a roast for the first time in my life tonight. Beef roast with sweet potato, parsnips and carrots, with some weird Greek yogurt/cayenne/red wine vinegar/mayonaise* sauce concoction. This may be one of the best things I've ever made. I hope it re-heats well tomorrow.

*It was supposed to be a horseradish sauce made with white wine vinegar. I had neither white wine vinegar or horseradish.

I love when you throw a bunch of stuff together willy nilly and end up with a masterpiece.

This was a good weekend. Went curling, helped on feral cat TNR day, played Broomball, ran 5 miles, held a tarantula, carried an anaconda, and high fived an alligator. Yup. And TWD starts tonight! And no studying has occurred yet....

Welp this has been a bit of a confusing journey.

But it looks like I'm officially a DVM/PhD student now.

I might get a funded reserved project in Australia this summer or at the very least should get paid for some cool lab work here.

AND my new tuition assistance for being a grad student just went through. It was almost 50% for this semester!!!! And my advisor said it can likely go up!!! I am so stoked 😀

Just found this. Welcome to the club!

Speaking of bad names, I feel horrible for all the women out there named Melena...

Our GI phys professor pronounces it "Meleeeena" it makes me laugh!!! Ive never heard it pronounced that way until him.

I'm now hearing the Mortal Kombat announcer's voice saying "MILEENA WINS." This is definitely not the first time I've thought of this since learning the word.

my roommate is going to Cornell for her 4th year! :soexcited: this whole thing has been a nightmare/disaster for the last month and a half for her. she's a canadian with a 4.0 and schools were being ridiculous!!

Helloooo high placing at poker(again), free drinks, cheap drinks and guys I haven't seen in a while flirting with me! New leads for my business. Oh, and new piercings today!(total spur of the moment decision. The best kind!)

Apparently, work found something I can do for about 8 hrs a week. It's about freakin' time! :soexcited:
I've been released from PT(wasn't expecting that. They still want me to check in 2x a month)
My business is starting to take off.
Life is grand!!
:highfive:

I made it home before this happened in Raleigh, despite the school deciding to keep us in class until just moments before it started snowing...

Holy... that's insanity.

It's pretty awful here, but the University closed last night before it even started snowing. Right now there's over 6 inches, and it's supposed to continue until 6am tomorrow morning!

Braved the snow to get to clinics today. Had an epic snowball fight in the parking lot, and the department head made all the LA people homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese! Best snowday at school ever.

Awesome day at school yesterday with TONS of candy (seriously, I think I have diabetes now), pre-class dance parties, watching the U.S. vs. Canada hockey game in class, and then watching and filming hilarious videos for the annual Suture Review. Then a lovely lunch with a friend where our waiter gave me a free drink because today is my birthday, and then I hopped on a plane and now I am home! Tomorrow I get to see my bf for Valentine's day (been together two years and this is the first time either of us is having a real Valentine's day date!) and then seeing family later this weekend to celebrate my birthday. All in all, this is a much needed break from the vet school stress!

This snow is bizarre! It's like a once-in-a-decade thing... so you should be good for your year here. 😛

Man... I want some snow. I don't want power outages and flaming cars, I just want a snow day and enough snow to have some fun in.

S'posed to get up to 72F this Sunday...

Really? There? Holy crap that's warm for there this time of year!

30's in MN next week. We're all cheering, haha!

77 next Wednesday.
just before I leave for my preceptors in wintry places. my poor body won't know what hit it

My bf knows how uncomfortable I always am when I visit and we have to share the tiny twin bed in his dorm room, so he booked us a hotel room for Valentine's day. So unexpected and such a sweet surprise!

Proud to be a Sun Devil tonight 🙂 Now I might actually start watching college basketball.

My advisor pulled me out of the lab the other day to chat and while the details are still vague, he basically told me that the Australia summer trip is a go and I'll be told more shortly and put into contact with who I'll be working with. I should be heading to a pretty big infectious disease laboratory, and the icing on the cake is that the trip is fully funded. Awww yeah.

Awesome!! Sounds right up your alley! That's a project outside vrsp I assume?

Yeah! My mentor emailed me this morning- we weren't supposed to find out until this afternoon. My roomie found out last night, even. But this is perfect for me!

Today was our last day of staying late to make up for snow days, and my partner and I finished our brain "dissection" (I did a far more comprehensive dissection in undergrad) in 20 minutes. So I went to the grocery and am home again and still have 5 minutes before I was even supposed to be out of class!

If you don't already know him, Dr. Bryan is AWESOME! Probably my favorite clinician in the VMTH, and super brilliant. You'll have an excellent experience, I'm sure.

That's super awesome to hear! I've met with him once to talk to him about his project, and he seemed great! He's also got a PhD student I'll be working with as well this summer.

lamest rave ever: resprained my ankle this weekend. Dr told me I was a good patient and therefore they will sell me the brace at cost if insurance has an issue. I really respect this guy already and I really would have paid the full cost, but it's nice to know that he's really just a good guy.
