Bought our plane tickets for a Europe trip before vet school starts! (yay bucket list!) Now to plan all the things. (this was a really big deal for me, I am very uptight with money and have trouble spending it on anything unnecessary, like crazy vacations!)

I'm in a Repro Phys class taught by multiple professors. I rocked the first two exams and really enjoy the class. Physiology is my thing. Found out yesterday that I didn't do so hot on the third exam and was pretty bummed out.

My advisor was the professor who taught the first half of the class, now it's being taught by someone else. A very different style of exam.

Anyway, my advisor came up to me after class and said "now you don't be upset about that exam. You did fine. That was not an easy test."

He knows what a Type A student I am and it really meant a lot. Feeling better.

I got to teach a bunch of 2nd years how to do a u-cath for sterile collection in male dogs today. We used bananas and it was hilarious. I love teaching. 😍

I've had a no-good-very-bad week (see the Rant thread from Monday) but today, today was okay.

My dog Belle had a successful amputation of her osteosarcoma-ridden leg and is recovering well (also her ALP was 86 which is a positive prognostic indicator). While I couldn't convince my parents that chemo is a good idea, I'm hopeful that she can enjoy one last summer, even if she is a tripawd now 🙂

I am officially an aunt! My sister gave birth today to a beautiful little baby girl with quite the head of hair. While it meant a 90 minute drive to and from Wisconsin to be there, I 100% feel it was worth it to meet the newest tiniest member of my family.

My professor is allowing me to take the exam scheduled for tomorrow at 8am on Monday instead, due to the aforementioned circumstances from today. He definitely was under no obligation to do me this favor so I am extremely grateful that I can happily head to bed right now instead of spending the next 7 hours trying to cram studying instead of sleeping.
a couple in the class below me had a dog who was diagnosed with osteosarc. they were into videomaking and such, and made a beautiful video (multiples) of his story. Sheridan had a wonderful year. the link to the video in case you are up for watching it. Sheridan's story ended up on the news and everything

I loved Sheridan! Such a sweetheart, I cried my eyes out when I watched the video of his last few days they made.

Today was the first time I tried my drive home with both cats and the rabbit together in the dog crate in my backseat. Normally my rabbit rides shotgun in a carrier, but I wanted to see if he'd do better with space. He did! He hopped around, used the cat's litterbox, and even nibbled on some hay. Everyone got along and he slept with my cats almost the whole trip. He was still pretty scared at times and breathing fast, but I'm not sure if that can be changed at all. I'm just happy now...normally he takes an hour or two to kind of snap out of his travel daze but this time, he was ready for dinner and his own litterbox as soon as we got home.

Had an interview for an internship at the TX state aquarium this morning which went well, and got to stick around afterward and go through for free! (Nice and uncrowded too since it's a Monday) Then my parents met me for lunch and a quick walk by the bay, and it's such a crisp beautiful day! Also expecting some new chicks coming in tomorrow, and then my birthday on Wednesday (aw man, I have class that day though...)

One of my bestest path friends just got a faculty position at Illinois. This girl is baller. Really, really happy for her (but now even more anxious to be done!)

@pinkpuppy9 @batsenecal @cloverbug y'all are a lucky bunch to land her. I'll miss her awfully though. Treat her good.

Step Dad and Mom have been doing some bargain hunting for me for the new house.
Solid oak dining room table, six chairs and China cabinet: $400
Kitchen table and four chairs: $100
Solid wood bedroom set (headboard, two nightstands, dresser with mirror and chest of drawers): $400

It's all secondhand off Kijiji (Canadian Craigslist), but in fabulous condition. And my mini kitchen reno is so far only $750 (countertops and floors) and the only thing left is new hardware for the cabinets.

Just 1 month til closing!!

I'm jelly that you can have solid wood stuff! That's awesome.

I don't understand. "Coming up with"? So, what, they give you a condition and you have to reverse engineer what it's bloodwork would be?

We have to write up a case from presentation through necropsy. We have to explain everything that was found on presentation/blood work/necropsy/cytology/histopathology, etc... If it happened, you have to explain it.

However, if blood work was not done on your patient (as in my case) then you have to come up with what the blood work may have looked like based on what was found on necropsy. So my patient was found to have diffuse lymphoma everywhere... which means blood work could have done whatever the hell the cancer wanted it to do.

My cats go outside during the day and come in at night. As the weather gets warmer, they really enjoy their time outside, but they are really good about coming home when it gets dark. Well my one cat didn't come home the past two nights. Today I asked my family to keep an eye out for him, and they didn't see him all day. I was pretty worried when I got home. I was planning on putting out some canned tuna in hopes that it he'd smell it and come home (even though leaving cat food out the past 2 nights didn't help). Well, we were eating dinner and my cat just walked up onto the deck all casual like. I dropped my food and ran out to get him. I have a feeling he found something yummy to eat outside, because he dropped one the smelliest poos ever shortly after he came in. I'm so glad he's home though.

I'm curious. What is Pokeball designing? I can't think of what it would be.
Oddly enough Clin Path. I had a really good reason for it when I thought of it months ago but... I can't remember why now 😛

My son got accepted to his top choice school yesterday, and today we saw that they are offering him $34k in grants and scholarships for his first year, making it almost as cheap, if not cheaper than his second choice school which is a cheaper and closer state school. I was planning on talking him into the state school until I saw his financial aid package!

That's how it worked out for me and college. Congrats to him!!

Going to candlelight yoga tonight for the first time in months. I'm too excited, I've needed this!

That sounds really cool. I want to try too.

It's absolutely fantastic. You don't have to know yoga or be flexible to do it. It's all sitting or laying down. No lights, just candles. And they play the singing bowls 😍

Oh, the meditation ones? Nice

Had such a productive day today!
  • Woke up early and had a doctors appointment on campus. I don't have health insurance, so it ended up being pretty cheap for paying out of pocket.
  • Got bloodwork done after said doctors appointment. I was surprised by how little it hurt, but my nurse was great and hit my vein on the first stick (those blood donation vans have scarred me for life).
  • Finished my research poster and got complimented by my PI saying that it was an amazing 1st research poster!
  • Practiced my presentation with my lab for my conference later this week. I'm glad because now I'm much less nervous than before.
  • Went to the bank to get a new defenders of wildlife debit card.
  • Took a nap and went grocery shopping.
  • Drove to the wildlife center to help feed baby mammals since baby season has arrived!
  • And finally, I went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription to help me kick this depression in the butt... I never thought I would be this excited to get on medication.
Actually really happy and excited for where things are going. Hopefully only up from here! Today was a good day!! 🙂

1) Damn. I wish I had days that were this productive.
2) this post reminded me to take my medicine. So thanks for that

Baby season😍

I'm so sad I won't be able to volunteer in the nursery this spring/summer. The center here already has a bunch of baby birds.

Though I'm not going to miss the squirrels... So many 10 hour days last summer doing nothing but feeding baby squirrels non stop :dead:
