Baby season😍

I'm so sad I won't be able to volunteer in the nursery this spring/summer. The center here already has a bunch of baby birds.

Though I'm not going to miss the squirrels... So many 10 hour days last summer doing nothing but feeding baby squirrels non stop :dead:
Omg, I love feeding squirrels because it means I'm not feeding baby bunnies 😛 I can get squirrels to eat pretty well, but the bunnies are so nitpicky! And their survival rate is so low, it makes me so sad to know the bunny I'm feeding will probably be dead in the next few days.

I love baby season, and it's a great time to train new people because there's so many animals! Tube feeding all the baby birds is what takes me a long time because I force the new people to do it and it takes them forever. But at least they learn and get more comfortable with it. We also have 5 baby chickens from the after-Easter regrets 🙁 but I love chicks so I was happy to let them climb on me 😍 the baby deer should be coming in when it gets a little closer to summer. They are my favorite!! The thought of moving in a few months and leaving this place brings tears to my eyes. I love it so much. Can't wait to find a rehab place in my next town.

Ha, I loved the squirrels until the days where I was doing nothing but feeding newborns all day. Juveniles I'm fine with, but the new borns.... some of them would take 20 minutes feed because the buggers couldn't stay awake long enough to eat all their formula. Plus, we live in an area over run with squirrels, so at one point we had over 100 babies in the nursery with like four volunteers/interns total for most of the day. We wouldn't even be finished with the first feeding shift when the next started. That soured them a bit for me

I loved working with the baby birds! I was the bird nursery intern for the summer last year, and loved spending all day with them. We had a weird season though, and only had a handful of babies at a time after the end of July through September (last year was my first year, but I was told generally we'd have 30 cages with anywhere from 1-10 for all of May-August, and we didn't even hit that in May-June when we were at our busiest). So I got roped into the squirrels for the later part of the summer.

I'll tell you what, you can have my squirrels, I'll take your birds 😛

We're rolling into baby season too...I guess we got 10 neonate bunnies today alone. I actually dislike feeding orphans, but it has to be done! I prefer feeding birds if I have a choice, especially if they beg for food 😀

They're so friken cute when they see you and start chirping for food! 😍

Fun last couple of days. Saw a couple of new procedures while shadowing and I got to scrub in on a foreign body surgery. Got to use all those wasted residential framing skills I learned over the last few months to help the parents of a Dr. I really respect. Two job interviews and my golden retriever is ready to get assessed for therapy work. Now if I can just get my genetics homework done...

Had such a productive day today!
  • Woke up early and had a doctors appointment on campus. I don't have health insurance, so it ended up being pretty cheap for paying out of pocket.
  • Got bloodwork done after said doctors appointment. I was surprised by how little it hurt, but my nurse was great and hit my vein on the first stick (those blood donation vans have scarred me for life).
  • Finished my research poster and got complimented by my PI saying that it was an amazing 1st research poster!
  • Practiced my presentation with my lab for my conference later this week. I'm glad because now I'm much less nervous than before.
  • Went to the bank to get a new defenders of wildlife debit card.
  • Took a nap and went grocery shopping.
  • Drove to the wildlife center to help feed baby mammals since baby season has arrived!
  • And finally, I went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription to help me kick this depression in the butt... I never thought I would be this excited to get on medication.
Actually really happy and excited for where things are going. Hopefully only up from here! Today was a good day!! 🙂

That's amazing! I hope the mediation helps out! 🙂

We got our graduation caps and gowns at my undergrad today! It all just feels so real now. 😍

And I'm super pleased with how well my cap design came out!

Thanks! It took a little while to get it right, but I'm happy with how it turned out. 🙂

I didn't know cap decorating was a thing until my graduation ceremony 🙄
Y'know, I didn't either until recently. I didn't plan on decorating it at all until I promised a friend that I would do so if I got accepted... so...

Looks great!

I don't know what to do with my cap. I might just smear glitter glue all over.

I'm not really sure if this is considered a rave, but at the SA vet clinic I work at, 3 different workers- 2 vet techs and a kennel tech are all about to go on maternity leave for the majority of the summer... And there's only like 16 total staff in the clinic. So I'm going to get hella hours this summer!!! :soexcited:

For my A.R.T. program, we decorated all our caps from the release of the gametes (pig penis and sperm) through fert, development and finally, on mine, the baby! We all sat in order and walked in order of caps. Gotta see if I can find the pic...

I want pictures!

I gotta know who got stuck with that step... :corny:

When I graduated, I didn't even realize we were "allowed" to decorate our caps, until I got in line and saw a few people in front of me had theirs blindingly bedazzled

There must be something in your water! That's a lot of babies. 😛

I know!! And we haven't had a pregnancy at the clinic in like 5 years. And then three different girls got pregnant within like two months of each other! The first one goes on maternity leave April 12th, and the rest shortly follow!!

I've been scouring Pinterest for graduation cap ideas 😀 I want to keep it fairly simple, but will definitely include a vet school reference of some sort. I'm thinking a caduceus in the middle a bit like ketoone, with "BS 2016" on one side of it and "DVM 2020" on the other. And some animal(s) somewhere. 🙂

I went to my school's graduation last year, and somebody had a cap that said "Just like this cylinder, I'm graduated!" next to a pic of a 25ml graduated cylinder 😀 I was a fan.

One of the steps is missing... rupturing follicle, but these are our caps. Most are embryo stages. And yes, he volunteered to be ejaculation.

Okay, I'm laying in bed with a sinus infection, and I just laughed so hard that my roommate came in my room because she thought I was dying. That's SO FUNNY!!

I honestly looked this up for part of my PS...because I knew the veterinary one wasn't the a caduceus but didn't know what else it would be called. 😛

Any time I see the caduceus anywhere in relation to medicine, I shake my head and sigh.

A clinic I actually loved has a big brass one right outside the front door that we had to polish every free day. I shook my head at it every time.

This is a ridiculous rave... but I've suspected one of my classmates in particular of running the 4yearsofvetschool tumblr for a couple years, and she finally admitted it to us all earlier tonight. 😛 Makes me happy.

Cute! My graduation (May 2014) was the first year my undergrad allowed us to decorate our caps, but I'm not crafty and I couldn't think of anything good. 🙁 My ex-best friend graduated this past December and put a Snitch and "life opens at the close" on hers. I was a little salty that I didn't think of it first. 😛

I guess the clinic I work at had a bit of a reputation a few years ago for seemingly everyone being pregnant around the same time. But the only pregnancy we've had in the two years that I've worked there is our groomer who's currently 36 weeks!

I LOVE that tumblr!

Just feverishly registered for the AAZV/EAZWV Conference!!! Sooooo excited! I'll finally get to cross the Georgia Aquarium off my bucket list! 🙈

Had never heard of this and started browsing on my lunch break. Had some good chuckles, but when I made it to the first sloth gif I completely lost it. Tears are rolling and everyone in the lunch rooms is giving me sideways glances like I'm crazy.

I still have to decide if I'm going or not, I can't even drive this summer. I'll have to see if any people from my school are going. 🙁

Last August, I ended up at a shelter in a poor part of my state and rescued an adult female cat on a complete whim. She had a host of issues (I ended up at an emergency clinic the second night I had her). Now, as I sit here studying with her on my lap, I'm smiling over how GOOD she looks. Healthy weight, sleek and shiny, and purring loudly. As much as I never meant to end up with her, I know this is one thing I did right.

So excited about the house we toured today! 3 bed 3 bath, reasonable rent. Unreal amount of space for all of us, and includes trash/lawn/snow. The only problem is that the landlord only allows the number of pets you sign with, so my roommate couldn't adopt a dog next year. We're going to talk to him about that and see if he'll grant an exception. Really, this is exactly the place we needed and I hope it works out.

I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill! So proud of myself..haha. Hoping I can make it a regular thing.
I had a really good streak of working out at least 5 days a week for two months... and then exams happened 🙁 brb going to the gym.
