He was born two days ago and his mom had no milk so he's now our bottle baby and "if you can keep him alive you'll pass your rotation". Which got a lot harder today because he possibly has an intussusception and/or e coli and/or omphalophlebitis and/or joint ill.

BUT HE'S SO CUTE AND WE NAMED HIM DILBERT AND TODAY WE TAUGHT HIM HOW TO SUCK FROM A BOTTLE SO WE DON'T HAVE TO TUBE HIM. AND HE DID IT!

What's your budget?

Tons of food (I'm easy to please, so the Aria and Caesar's Palace buffets were pretty good)
Tons of shows (Blue Man Group, several permanent Cirque du Soleil shows)
Tons of upscale shopping
Tons of people watching/walking the strip
Tons of ridiculous dry heat (don't pass out)
Avoid the slappers that hand out business cards with x-rated stuff
Don't go too far north and off Strip (I think?) where more crime is
Hoover Dam trip?
The fountains in front of Bellagio do a different show like q30 minutes.
Street performers work on tips, so if you want a selfie with anyone, be prepared to tip a little.
I liked the Shark Aquarium in Mandalay Bay. Was $18 when I went.

Oh I don't know... we were quite amused by what we dubbed the "adult trading cards." Is there a bonus prize for collecting a full set?

My budget is basically however much I feel comfortable spending, and I have no idea what that is yet. Sort of a “you know it when you see it” kind of thing. I’ll definitely look into all of that! I’m visiting my cousin who lives about 15 minutes off the strip so I have a few things in mind, but everyone has a different take on what’s worth doing. I absolutely want to check out some of the nice buffets.
 
Got to spend some time at the beach this week, and hoo boy, was it good for the soul.

I had needed some time off/away more than I had realized.
 
Do I need to add anyone else to my daily Dilbert snapchat updates/spam? Hahaha

P.s. he's still alive so that's a rave!

Apparently I was being paranoid after all and my cat decided that he felt better all on his own.

That combined with the fact that all 3 of my good friends from back home made it into vet school (so I'll see them in August!!!) made Friday a very good day!
 
Zumanity cirque du soleil is hilarious. It's basically like a drag show and a circus had an R rated baby and I go every time I'm in Vegas and have a blast every time.

Okay, question, WHEN was Hadestown turned into a musical? I am curious because it was an album by Anais Mitchell and I played it into the ground YEARS ago, but apparently missed the boat on when it went to Broadway

Which is fine, because this means I've officially reached the level of gay that I know all the lyrics to a Broadway musical without having any idea that it was a Broadway musical, which is like... advanced gay

So Anaïs’ album came out in 2010 and the off-Broadway production premiered May 2016. So it’s taken a long damn time to get where it is now. Also, many of the songs have changed A LOT since the off-Broadway production, so I imagine there are a lot more differences between what it is now and Anaïs’ album.

But yeah, I love it. I’m going to see it in 2 weeks 😀 The musical community considers it a cousin to Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812 which was snubbed of like every Tony in 2017 (but I think is even better than Hadestown).

Can you tell I’m a theatre nerd?
 
Time for a rave! My horse made it to AZ in one piece (despite trying to kill himself and the trailer on the way over), passed state boards, and am bringing home a baby pionus parrot on Friday (super pumped).

I feel like birds are so much easier to name than dogs. I've never heard a bird name and gone "That's a dumb name" but totally have for dogs.

One named Tina Furner fairly recently... :uhno:

Parry the parrot.

Guarantee you’ve heard more dog names than bird names though, so you just haven’t heard the dumb ones.
 
The wildlife service at my location lets students name things...my favorites were a bird (a sandhill crane I think) named Birdie Sanders, Mishell Obama the tortoise, Herbert Hooter the owl, and several others that I can't remember right this minute.

We're technically not supposed to name the kiddos that come into our clinic. But my team did. We had Lucifer Goosifer for a while.

I wish this were true. I had a parrot and we couldn't decide on a name, so my dad said we should wait to see his personality. We waited a few weeks. We also had a fully flighted parakeet at the time that became OBSESSED with my parrot (a pionus), so we started referring to them as "big bird" and "little bird". I decided to name my bird "Fruitloop" but he was never called that. They were big bird and little bird until the day they died.

My new bird is a pionus!!! What kind did you have?
 
We have a mating pair of western gulls that live (and nest) on our roof at the center where I work. We call them Mr. and Mrs. Buckets because they like to steal the fish out of our buckets.
They also like to stand on top of our aviaries and scream at/terrorize the baby gulls we have in care

I went to book a flight to my board exam tonight. Was a little worried how I'd afford it because I haven't been reimbursed yet for almost $1,100 I spent going to an interview, but it's getting close enough I was afraid prices would start to rise so I was just going to charge it to my credit card and hope my reimbursement came soon. Then I realized I had just enough airline miles to cover the entire trip! I even had enough to spring for Comfort+ seats on the ride back home.
 
I'm trying to become a clinical nutritionist. In addition to our nutrition classes at school I've developed relationships with several nutritionists around North America, I went to the AAVN symposium last year, I haunt the nutrition board on VIN, and I'm doing a lot of reading and generally trying to learn as much as I can.

My sister-in-law has a dog. She was complaining that the last time she had her nails done they did a terrible job and split one of her nails. I told her that might be nutrition or genetics rather than just technique. She then asked me what she should be feeding her, and told me what she's eating now. I highly disapproved of her choice, and my sister-in-law, who generally brushes off any pet advice I've tried to give her, now wants to go dog food shopping with me to get the "best" advice she can. It's a small thing, but it's kind of a victory and it feels really good 🙂

Actually this reminded me... (and I’m replying to squeaks, but this is a question for anyone with any input)
my friend is getting a cat in the next month or two and wants to know what kind of food to feed her. She’s very LA and wanted to go the whole “all natural” (read: grain free) route because that’s what all the blogs were saying she should do. I managed to talk her out of that, but when she asked me what she should feed if NOT that, I didn’t have a good answer. ScienceDiet? ProPlan? Blue Buffalo (I feel like I have heard something bad about their dog food recently, not sure if it is something that makes t worth avoiding the whole brand)?
What do y’all feed your cats?

Yes, PLEASE no grain free right now unless there's a medical need, which there very rarely is! Honestly mine eat Friskies wet. It's owned by Purina, which is a company I trust that does a lot of research, does feeding trials (not sure if on every recipe) and has actual nutritionists on staff designing the foods. Many of the smaller boutique companies don't have nutritionists or do feeding trials... they use software to formulate and hope for the best. I promise I'm not in anyone's pocket 😉 I trust foods from the "big 3", and that includes a lot of labels and labels aimed at different price points and pet owner preferences. They've been doing the research, do the feeding trials, and have the track record to back up what they're selling. I'm not saying that there are no other good options, but they're my go-tos if someone wants a pretty straightforward answer.

It's such a great feeling knowing your hard work is paying off when you send your application materials for an externship next summer and they reply saying "very impressive, let's put you down for this date." :soexcited: 🙂 :biglove: After a horrible living situation last semester I feel so free to just soak everything in and learn.

Actually, I'm going to qualify that a bit. The "big 3" do have some grain free foods, which I trust, but nobody else's please until the DCM issue gets sorted out.

My sisters cat currently is on a dry from Royal canin (because he needed something with specific dietary requirements) but had been on Purina One before that. I personally only feed Purina, Royal canin, and hills because they’re the ones doing the research and they have nutritionists.
