RAVE HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Rave: Just scored bbno$ tickets which almost makes up for the fact that we missed Yung Gravy a few days ago. Half the Baby Gravy duo is better than none.

Rant: Ashnikko is already somehow sold out (I didn't even know she was going on tour and I follow her) AND I found out after I bought the tickets that the bbno$ concert is the same day as my vet prom 🙁

I’m so happy I passed pharmacology today after having a mini panic attack during the exam because I thought I was going to fail! Anyways I fly out to AAEP tomorrow and I’m super excited to go with a really good friend from school

At AAEP this weekend, I fan girled over the sight of seeing the head of Kentucky horse racing commission veterinarians. But he kept talking to someone, so I didn’t get to say anything. Plus HISA is here this weekend, and I’m going to elevator pitch the crap out of them for any externships or advice I can get.

getting crafty this holiday season! made some recipe cards for my baker friend and then i’m painting her a little box to store them in. my bestie is getting a decorative plate im going to paint a photo of us on and then my partner is getting a canvas painting of our favorite song imagery

I am so close to being done with Semester 4/9! It's crazy that I am almost halfway done. Puerto Rico is calling me and I will be answering for 10 days straight with no computer. 🌅 (Well very little outside of checking emails)

That moment your management is so overwhelmed, that they double book your shift with you and a relief doctor and it's cheaper to send you home 😍 Stoked for a random day off today and 4 days off in a row!!

Update, got called in for a swing shift yesterday that was actually quite pleasant. Between the call in fee, the hours worked, and the doctor's meeting today, it's like I worked a full shift when I worked only a 2/3 shift!

So I worked at a vet diagnostic lab for a couple of years before grad school and I absolutely loved it, it was my favorite workplace ever, and I check their careers page every so often even though I don't expect to see anything I would be competitive for. Well well well guess who is looking for a DNA/PCR scientist??? Guys I applied so fast and I'm currently trying to manifest an interview invite with all of the positive vibes left in my body. My supervisor is still there and I caught up with him and some of the pathologists this summer, so I'm hoping that any of them could talk me up if the hiring team asks. Also, they only had 20 applicants from LinkedIn which is insane, I'm not sure I've seen that few on anything ever, so I think my odds are really good! I want this so much. I'm not even cautiously optimistic, I'm all the way optimistic. It's been 3 days since the posting closed and I need to restrain myself from checking workday every 2 seconds.

Manifesting success for you, this sounds so perfect <3

Idk if any admissions staff is on SDN, but shoutout to those who are quickly responding to emails even amidst the end of the semester and admissions decisions starting to roll out. I emailed all of my schools yesterday evening around 9:30PM clarifying if I needed to submit my fall transcripts, and each school has responded within 12 hours. Thanks y'all!

The only ones I've emailed is TAMU but they've been awesome, so so quick and kind!

I am the person formerly referred to as RespectTheChemistry. I don't remember if I had the 19 tacked on the end. I deleted my account to take a little Internet break.

I just found out that I not only passed the licensure exam for my field (not a vet!!), but I got a really good score. 🙂 I had had a rough night and was up all night dealing with a family situation and got a stressful phone call 10 minutes before walking into the exam, so I would have been happy just to pass.

ETA: I am also now half-way done with my Master's degree!

Just finished my first semester of vet school today!

Grades aren't in yet so trying not to get ahead of myself there, but it was nice to walk out of my last and longest exam feeling relieved and accomplished, on the warmest day we've had in weeks, and be able to take my bike out one last time before she takes a break for the winter too.

Super grateful for the awesome friends, classmates, and supportive faculty who have made my first semester enjoyable despite the inevitable stressors of vet school.

Update: officially passed as well!

Thankful to have made it home for christmas to spend time with both my elderly parents and my elderly puppy 🥰 Brittany is 15.5 years old!

I’m a late 90s baby can I play?

I had a liquor store guy glance at my ID and go “oh your birthday starts with a one you’re good” and I felt like I’d been shot, run over with a garbage truck, and took an arrow to the knee all at the same time

Ugh, I feel that.

I am a little older than you (early 30s, mid-90s baby). I have an uncle who was a baggage handler at a major international airport for 40 years. I was telling a story about how before 9/11, my aunt would take my cousins and I to visit my uncle at work and look out the big windows at the planes taking off. I had coworkers in their 20s who looked at me like I was crazy. They are adults in their 20s and were born right around 9/11! That's wild.

I have staff that can't tell me where they were on 9/11 cause they weren't even conceived, let alone born 💀

I know once i start vet school im gonna feel geriatric. When i was in a pre req this summer i definitely felt like i was over a decade older than many other students haha

Yesterday I went to the liquor store with my sister and the cashier carded me and saw my '99 birthday and called me "unc" ????????????

I was hanging out with several people on my buhurt team last month and realized I was the only person in the room who had been alive for 9/11. 💀

Lol yeah I'm one of those people who gets shocked looks and comments from my classmates when they learn I was born a number of years after 9/11. I stopped telling people how old I am.
That's odd bc it was 24 years ago now; I'm pretty sure most of my classmates are younger than that 😅

Yeah I think people just don't think about time that much? I can kinda understand since I was shocked to see 2008 as the birthday of the girl who rear ended me a few weeks ago lol. I was like wait a minute, can she even drive?? Lol

It also might just be the 24/25 year olds being dramatic because I don't think it takes too much to realize a 2003 baby is only 2 years younger than you lol

Just got back from Hawaii. Had a blast (except for the flights...ick), did some physical activities I shouldn't have, saw a monk seal, snorkeled with sea turtles and whales (the latter were like a few hundred yards away...but technically lol), and ate a lot of food. Would recommend.

Where did you go? Hubs is wanting to go to Hawaii for his birthday next month. Will likely go to ohau so recommendations appreciated if you went there 🙂

We went to Maui! I don't think we were expecting things to be as expensive as they were (things like groceries/meals, for example) so prep for that. I know it's an island and things are more costly on islands, but I still was not expecting the prices we saw.
