Officially back at work. I cried like 5 times before leaving BUT it was a good day, I do remember how to doctor, and I even got a few repro appointments for my first day back.

All these darn transplants 🤣

But seriously. All our out of state shelter dogs probably.
Cat has been indoors since like 8 weeks old it's now 11mo. O doesnt do plants because cats. I just don't understand but yeah probs got it when it was a baby from some dog back east brought it into the soil. 🙃

I've been trying to make a really good holiday dessert basically ever since I got married. I finally did it.

Granted all I really made was ganache but it was darn good and sometimes simple is the way to go.

Just got back from Hawaii. Had a blast (except for the flights...ick), did some physical activities I shouldn't have, saw a monk seal, snorkeled with sea turtles and whales (the latter were like a few hundred yards away...but technically lol), and ate a lot of food. Would recommend.
Wait, I also just got back from Hawaii on Tuesday! We were in Oahu though. Did it rain pretty much every day on Maui too? 😢

Not at all! I think it sprinkled briefly once or twice but otherwise it was mostly a sunny week. The water was fairly rough all week though.

That's awesome! I'm so jelly haha I feel like I was cheated of my first Hawaii experience because firstly our flight out got cancelled (after hours of airport drama due to snow, a passenger medical emergency, and crew issues) so we got there by 2 days later than we were supposed to and then it rained 5 of our 6 days there. BUT just means I have to go back 🤷‍♀️ And will probably also go to a different island next time.

FWIW ... I'm pretty sure you're aware of various methods of transmission but just wanted to mention this:

Consider the presence of fungus (on the soles of shoes that have been worn outdoors) that gets unwittingly tracked into homes containing indoor-only cats. The fungal spores can survive for a long time on the shoe tread; and the spores can be later aerosolized via walking around the indoor cat's home in the contaminated shoes. We're seeing an uptick of fungal infections on the West Coast in humans and animals.

Ooh interesting. What is your most common fungal infection in humans and are you seeing them in 'healthy' humans? Sinonasal mucormycosis got my dad after his lung transport (or really, the aftermath of treating the mucor is what ultimately did him in...) but he was immunocompromised

Certain areas are more endemic, sure, but these organisms trulyare everywhere. Histo in particular is a global problem. I had a blasto case during my rotating in FL, and that dog was born/raised in FL. In school they made it seem like you only see these organisms in certain areas of the country. I feel like the only one you could loosely argue that holds true for is pythium (fungal-ish, I guess), and with all of our weird weather and weather changes over the last few years I feel like that probably isn't even true anymore.

I live in fear of fungal diseases now lol

My mom gave my grandpa a record player for Christmas. She figured he probably still had his old records because my grandparents are, for better or worse, the kind of people who haven't thrown anything away in at least 50 years. He was elated because he still has the vinyl records from when him and my grandma were in concert band together. He played clarinet and she played flute. The university made a record of it and now my grandpa can listen to it. 🙂

Aside from the typical human fungal stuff (e.g., ringworm) ... seeing aspergillosis, cryptococcosis and histoplasmosis much more frequentlly in humans and pets alike, healthy and unhealthy.

My last one was going over my shoulder/collarbone and I LOVE it but now I'm asymmetrical so I have to do the other side, right? Right.

Might have found a certain Pendleton themed mug set that a friend has been desperately searching for at a decent price and will be able to give them the good news when they get off work! (The benefits of having two homes in two different states.)

Made my first big adult purchase of a car today! The car I've had since I was a teenager that I bought for $1000 from my parents had 184000 miles on it and I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new one before it broke down for good. Nice, lightly used 2024 Toyota corolla for me!

Congrats! I have a '22 corolla crossover and love it 🙂

I guess this is mostly a rave: The two kittens I've been fostering are set to be adopted together! One of the kiddos has CH-I worry about him. I swear, there's nothing going on behind those eyes sometimes-and I was worried no one would want to adopt him or couldn't accommodate his special needs. But his adopter is a pre-vet who also happens to work at a clinic with a whole bunch of vets! Super lucky.

Mini rant: These two have grown on me. I'm going to miss the little nuts when they leave in a week for their forever home.

Permit me to rave on the same topic again... I got into Cornell yesterday and today my partner got invited to interview at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Erie/ Elmira.... one of the campuses is just an hour from Cornell! I am so so happy and so proud of him!

And now he got an interview at make erie florida too and I have an interview at UF!!!

...do it.

(I've made over a half dozen people watch this show already lol)

This seems silly compared to everything so tragic going on right now, and my privilege is probably showing, but I am still very excited…

MY HOUSE PLANS APPRAISED!

To get a new construction home loan, the bank orders an appraisal based on your blueprints to decide how much they’ll give you for the construction loan…they’ll usually only loan you up to 80% of the appraised value, no matter what the house costs to build. If the appraisal had been low, I’d have had to delay construction to save even more money to cover the difference between what the bank would loan and what it actually costs to build. But it all came back fine and the appraiser’s value and what the builder estimates it’ll cost match! So hopefully we’ll get to start construction on my new house in like March or April.

I can’t always hear the dog asking to be let out by banging on the glass door when the dryer is running. One of my cats, who almost never meows, was sitting in the middle of the floor meowing. I came down right away because I was concerned. It was because his dog needed to be let out and I didn’t hear it because of the dryer. Such a good boy.

Sharing another story about how pets look out for each other:

I have a coffee table in front of our TV where the top floats up to function as a desk (or makeshift dinner table). My youngest cat likes to sit in the storage space under the top while we have it lifted up. If I don't check for her before I close the lid, she'll get trapped. When it's closed, it's probably decently airtight and the space is wide, but only like 4-5 inches tall.

Well, once I did forget to check for her before I went to bed. I got into bed and noticed my dog didn't follow me, which is exceptionally abnormal. When I went looking for him, he was still sitting in our living room staring at the coffee table. Sure, he could have been more up front with his concerns, but he's not much of a talker and he still saved her anyways. Not sure if my cat would have eventually started crying, or if I would have even heard her and woken up, but it still makes me sick thinking what the alternative could have been. Haven't failed to check the space before closing the lid since :smack:

My husband is pretty bad at catching when cats slip through doors to places they’re not supposed to go (like our guest room). But the cats watch out for each other. They have this weird stare they do, and if I can figure out who’s missing and ask where they are, they will look in the direction of the stuck kitty.

Are they crazy different??

Not really. The books just felt way more repetitive in themes and overall plot compared to the show. I bought all the books at once from Target and got through 4 of them before sending them to a friend. I felt I was reading the same book over and over

Are they crazy different??
They did change a couple of things that seem pretty minor at face value, but as the story moves beyond the first couple books is a pretty significant change. Like a ripple effect. The show reveals who Lady Whistledown is much earlier than in the books, which does change the story line a little. Relationship dynamics change a bit because of that. Also, in the books, there is a side character who is actually dead but the show has this character alive still, and I don’t want to say too much and give spoilers but idk how the show could follow the books for subsequent seasons with this character alive. So at this time it’s unclear if they’re gonna kill off the character soon, dramatically change that future story arc in some way, or what. There’s also another set of characters they’re reportedly changing the dynamics of and altering story lines. And with the actor who was the male main in S1 doesn’t come back for subsequent seasons, so it’s a little awkward sometimes when he should logically be in a scene in later seasons and he’s not.

But overall, I do think the show is well done and likely better than the books.
