I definitely plan to keep working out, I’m just not sure if I will have time for the long multi-hour workouts on the weekends. Hopefully I can do some shorter distance races 🙂
But I have been practicing making myself a morning person so hopefully I can either study some before class then workout or workout a little in the morning
We are finally starting to get more information about starting school (required items/books/online trainings/ect.) and I know that in a few months I will probably be exhausted and stressed lol but right now I am truly so excited.
As a lil bit older/non-traditional student who had to take a long detour to get here, there are days when I didn’t think I would make it.

Survived the 25 hour drive with 2 cats and a dog in the car (thank you gabapentin) and we are happily sitting on the floor of our new home 🙂

We didn’t have cable when I was a kid and much of what was on network TV during the day in the summer was not appropriate and/or interesting for children (soap operas, Oprah, Jerry Springer…). I had 2-3 videos that I watched on our VCR over and over again. I remember one of them was a Winnie the Pooh special where Tigger bounces around asking for increasingly elaborate things for his birthday including the Moon. I spent so long looking for it and became convinced it was just gone. I FINALLY FOUND IT. It’s on Disney plus. It turns out it was an episode of the show from the 80s and early 90s. It is such a small thing but it makes me so happy to have the nostalgia.
YouTube search 90s/00s shows with commercials, somehow people have actual recordings and its like a snapshot of Saturday AM cartoons.

Yall I gotta rave about something that I think is genuinely changing my (work) life for the better. I haven't been happy/impressed with any of the record AI things and I also generally avoid using AI but want/need to improve my efficiency in completing medical records. Almost 2 years ago I saved this Chrome extension called Text Blaze which lets you set up shortcuts that will work in any text field in Google Chrome. I didn't set it up until this last weekend when I remembered it existed and OMG I wish I had done it sooner, it saved me SO much time today. I even paid for a Pro subscription because it was cheap and added a bunch of features that are super useful. I spent all weekend making shortcuts to put pre-written blurbs into my records for things I frequently Dx or discuss with owners, typical Tx plans that autopopulate and I just fill in the blanks, surgery reports, etc. This is exactly the kind of automation I want while still having things look/feel like I wrote them. (I know some EMRs have the ability to do this already but ours doesn't.) Highly rec!

Having pre-written stuff for common things is definitely why I am more efficient than average at my job. Pathology is obviously a little different than clinical work, but I have saved comments, descriptions, and even full reports I can then insert and edit as needed…takes time investment at the beginning to set up, but it’s 10000% worth that time investment. Sounds like a neat little program!
I have pre-made charts for a lot of emergencies from being in ER for so long. Now I'm making pre-made wellness for various ages and such. It cuts down on record time, it helps me remember to talk to clients about something specific, and will just overall let me be more efficient
I also don't like AI, so it was how I was avoiding being made to use the AI
My company was asking us about theoretical use of AI and one example was if we’d want it to populate a list of possible diagnoses based upon the description you write…um no, the interp is the easiest thing about most of my reports and I can get that myself in seconds. And for the lesions I can’t name in seconds, I don’t want AI anywhere near because that means they’re weird. If you must use AI, use it to pre-screen scanned slides to see if they’re out of focus or not like we’ve been asking for for years, because we waste a lot of time sending cases back to the lab to be rescanned. Leave it out of the actual diagnostic decision making process. It’ll be interesting to see what the results of their “how do you want to utilize AI” survey goes…
sounds suspiciously like they want you to train your AI replacement... 🤔

I love using Talkatoo in our clinic. We can look back at the recording and it helps enhance our notes. Plus maintains integrity for both client and practice if information was / wasn’t shared. We have signage saying “recording in progress” and have people sign that they’re ok with being recorded.
I've found I spend more time editing AI generated SOAP notes than I would have spent just writing them myself in the first place.
Oh don’t even get me started, they absolutely already are. It’s a very sore point amongst many.
At this point, we can only hope vets demand that a real person is reading their samples by ordering tests that involve a pathologist. They frame it as using AI on samples that would otherwise go uncollected/not sent in anyway, but…

And the new creation does have an option to get a ‘path review’ on the AI stuff, so at least there’s that. But that path review is what’s absolutely being used to train it further. All while making us learn a whole new way to look at samples and training our AI replacement.
I've been using Text Blaze since my residency for my radiology reports. I always felt so awkward dictating in the reading room with everyone around haha. Now I go back and forth between typing and using Text Blaze or dictating in my every day life, since sometimes I still feel like I do better work/think better typing than talking.

Yes! Her name is Rigatoni, and my other clownfish is named Spaghetti and I have a yellow watchman goby named Roquefort! Also a tuxedo sea urchin named Gnocchi 🥰
Few critters right now but I have had many more pasta/food named critters in the past haha. Rigatoni I’ve had since 2018 or so when I started my tank! She and Spaghetti have done a cross country move before and a short move. Move number 3 for them is this weekend for vet school!

Once I have a big kid job I’ll actually get a nice vacuum like shorty and zenge, but this thing goes above and beyond for what it’s priced at and I will proselytize its benefits to anyone who will listen

Will preface: cheap is not “cheap”. I got it on sale for $180. Amazon had it for Prime Day for $120.
The badlands were some of the absolute coolest terrain I've been in when I visited, and I'm decently well traveled. Such a cool place.
Originally it was going to be a quick pit stop on the drive back but now we’re spending two nights there.
I’ve been running around like a crazy person digging into / visiting my potential new jobs because I’m lightly traumatized by the bait and switch performed by my internship.
Today a big shelter offered me a job. I was kinda shocked bc I’m a new grad obviously. For those who aren’t familiar - I worked in shelter med pretty much all of my undergrad, and I did a lot of TNR in vet school. When I became interested in IM I kind of was ready to say goodbye to it in a professional sense. But I’m really considering it.
I’m going to visit the facilities later this week.

On a similar note, I've never done anything shelter med related besides some rescue volunteering until this summer that I've been at our local shelter a few times doing spays and neuters and community vaccine clinics, and I'm finding out I really love it 😅
Shelter med is great. It’s a bit of everything. But it can be very emotionally taxing and a lot of politics. It’s definitely an avenue worth exploring!
Today is my birthday. Most malls have not survived the move towards Internet shopping, but there is a mall 40ish minutes away that has had a resurgence the past year or two. I loved malls when I was a teenager. They were everywhere. I still love the mall. I had my cake for breakfast and am headed to the mall later to get some back to school clothes for my niece. (I thought we should start early to make sure we can find her size. She goes back mid-August. I am avoiding calling it what it is, which is back to school clothes shopping, because she isn’t ready to think about going back, but I know the truth…)

Thank you! It was a lot of fun. My mom used to get me clothes in the next size up when she could so I wouldn’t dread growing, which I appreciated. The sales were so good that I was able to get her some stuff in the next size up too with the amount I budgeted!
