Hi all,

I took the OAT today and scored 260 on RC but everything else above 300. I read the thread and I know that many people have the same problem. I was wondering if you guys actually take the test again or regrade it? If regrade, please let me know if it was them making the mistake or I am that stupid. I felt very confident in that part because I even have at least 10 minutes to spare. I found all the answers in the passage so therefore, I didn't think I could miss that much. The three passages that I got were (mice, GABA, dopamine), float bridges, and (DPR alligator, ISO).

AM I THE ONLY ONE WITH A THAT PROBLEM???

I'm a so mad because I know with this score, I wouldn't get in opt school.

I forget, is there a fee for regrading?

If not, might as well get it rescored. I had those passages and scored a 380, and I was absolutely sure a lot of my answers were correct. We can speculate whether it was an internal error (your achievement) or an external error (software or wrong answer keys), but my experience showed the test was valid.

If you're positive you did stunningly well, might as well get it rescored, i suppose. I can't imagine a national standardized test and professional testing centers being faulty, and I'm sure there is much control and testing to maintain accuracy, reliablity, validity, and quality, so I usually tend to blame the test taker, but I suppose such errors are possible.

Let us know of your decision and the outcome. how'd the rest of the exam go?

If you're sure that the answers were correct (should be since you found them in the passages), I would definitely go for the regrade.
I had the same passages, but my score turned out ok.
There's nothing to lose if you are going to retake it anyway, right?

hmmm, i think i had those passages too and i did fine on the RC. but like OpticalBlackOut says, if you're sure your answers are correct, i would definitely regrade.

Hey,

Same exact thing happened to me. Its so horrible that we had the same situation. I took my OAT back in October and got a 270..

I had the EXACT EXACT EXACT same three passages as you, with 10 minutes remaining. I used the KAPLAN RC method, so all the answers were sooo easy to find, just like you. I thought, "boy that was easy!", considering I am a psychobiology major and dopamine and GABA are my friends...

The funny thing was that when I finished my RC part, I went to "review" answers and HALF of my answers were GONE! So out of 50 questions, I believe, 20 of them were marked as "incomplete".

I got pretty flustered, b/c I know I did not leave any unmarked, so I went back and filled them in again. So I went to "review" again, and about 10 or so were marked as "incomplete"...now I am thinking, What is going on???

Instead on telling the proctor, I just went back and re-filled my answers. The third time around, I had about 2 minutes left and this time, I went back to "review" my answers for the THIRD time, and again, 10 different ones were marked as incomplete again.....and I am positive that I did not incorrectly mark any of them.

Went back and re-filled them in, and reviewed my answers, and ALL answers were there. PHEW! I had 10 seconds to sit around and scroll up and down to make sure that all answers were in fact there.

So, I sit back and thought, K, got through that whole ordeal, my score better be good, since I had so much time left over to double check my work.

Saw my score (270)...and nearly fainted and cried....that darn score prevented me from an interview for SCCO!

I was thinking of getting it regraded, but since my answers may have been "deleted" once the RC part ended, I had NO real proof!

I thought maybe I was just plain stupid and seeing things on the RC. So I didn't tell anyone about the problem.....So I took the OAT last week AGAIN at a different testing site (for SCCOs sake) and got a 370 on RC! (I had 10 minutes to spare just like last time). The second time around, my answers were not deleted and no weird thing took place.

It really makes me wonder, how did I improve 100 points? Considering that reading comprehension is something that cannot really be memorized/studied. And all my practice tests for the first OAT (using Achiever) was above 350. And I heard so many stories about other who didn't even reach the third passage and guessed the last couple questions, still manage to get above 300.

I am so frustrated and I hope that someone can fix this problem. Glad that I did re-take the OAT and my true score was reflected. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share my experience with someone and I hope it doesn't happen again to anyone.

Winterhot - best of luck and you should definitely get that regraded, your gut instincts are usually right. If your practice tests are solid and above 350, and you have so much time left over, there must be a mistake. I am rooting for you and hope that you get that taking cared of. If not, take the OAT again (NOT AT THE SAME LOCATION) and show them what you got!

Good luck 🙂

Wow. You should definitely copy/paste that into a letter to prometric and ASCO. Hopefully it was an isolated incident, but that is something that should not occur. If you don't let them know your experiences, they have no reason to believe there may be errors w/ their exams.

I called them. It will cost me $50 to get it re-graded plus I have to wait for at least 6 weeks or so. I figure I'll just going to take the test again.

ok this is freaky
i got the exact same passages
and I scored 270
i thought i did better than that ..
and guess what, I got into UHCO which is an AWESOME AWESOME school (one of the top 3 if not the best one in the nation)
so .. y'all have hope , just apply early and keep nagging them .LOL:meanie:
