Re-Applicant Buddies for October

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have my first interview of this cycle one week from today, excited, and hope to keep it cool. MCAT scores out this week for those of us who retook. Sending out positive vibes for ya'll!!!

Hey, congrats on the interview, ingamina!

Hope we are happy with MCAT scores on Thursday. It's only two days away! :luck:

MCAT scores are in, and having to decide where I want to complete secondaries/ send in any additional primaries. I hate applying late, but I wasn't going to waste too much dough in case I bombed.

Mustang, hang tight! We're all in this together!

no interviews, complete at ten schools
i still have five more secondaries to send though!!! im in major freak out mode!!!
😱

Thanks, ingamina. It's kind of strange how optimistic I've been today. I've surprised myself. I don't know what's gonna happen over the next year, but there's not much I can do about it for a while, so I'm not gonna worry too much about it. Gotta focus on more important things.

I don't think you're late, but at least your MCAT is strong, which will help a lot I think. Good luck! :luck:

Interviewed at WVSOM on 10/6, decision deferred for MCAT update I guess. Went up 3 points on the MCAT this time, putting me at/above the DO average.

Only other secondary I sent in was PCOM-GA. I will do a bunch more if WVSOM doesn't work out. Hopefully they will decide this week.

Okay, got back from my first interview this cycle, and it was something else. I feel like I've improved. Last year, I was totally not prepared for my interviews, I gave short - unthought out answers, and really expected too little of myself.

But my interviewer this time starting things out pretty different. He gave no bones, he said he wanted to make sure they were getting the right kind of student, and that I was getting the right school, so it was business from the start, but he told me to relax and answer to the best of my abilities, and off we went...

Because I'm non-traditional, he grilled me on my school decisions and my activities up to this point - why I transferred schools and why it took me 6 years to graduate, when it should have taken 3! (I started college as a 2nd semester sophmore thanks to AP credits). He asked about my motivations, and wanted pointed answers to my family history and background, which was much more probing than anything I've experienced..
Throughout all this, I really let out everything, I felt he knew my file really well, so there was no use beating around the bush, and I opened up completely - then he asked me what should have been easier questions - like the biggest strength and weakness... now I had done pretty well up to this point, but I said that my biggest weakness was being emotional. He immediately perked, and wanted to know if it was debilitating or not - haha.. no, I said, but it would be hard on me to lose a patient.

At this point, I'm not sure if I opened up too much or if I really let my guard down too much - both of which would be bad and mean that I wouldnt get accepted - or he is impressed with my candor and honesty,.. not sure at all right now. I felt I did as well as I could, so its out of my hands. At least it's not my 1st choice, but a really good experience either way to start the cycle with such a tough experience.

Just had to let it out guys. Hope yours are going well.

Congrats, ingamina. Sounds like it went pretty well, but then again you never know. This process is really strange sometimes. I hope you get some good news soon.

I added 4 more schools to my application after I got MCAT scores back. No screening secondaries, so I've filled out all the secondaries. I hope I will get some more interviews this cycle. Someone in the NC thread who interviewed at ECU the first week of September got an acceptance last week, so since I interviewed the last week of September, so maybe something good will happen soon.

Good luck, guys!

I hate the waiting.. and the testing.. it never ends. You get through one step, and then you have to find out how you did before you can go on. I guess if I have trouble cutting this, then I've got a difficult road ahead.

I have most of my 2ndaries done. Still trying to decide if it's worth applying to some schools that don't accep ap bio credit... so is life being a non-trad and a re-apper

Hey Sal, I hope you got some good interviews coming.. they just need to meet you before they decide you're in it for them. I believe in you!

congrats on the really great mcat score, ingamina

i just heard that i was waitlisted at george washington. this was post-interview. it was a definitely a bummer because i loved the school and my interview seemed to have gone really well (?). anyway, being a reapplicant (a third time applicant), i guess i'm supposed to be gritty and be able to handle "the wait." in any case, i also just recently interviewed at drexel and really enjoyed the day. i was really pleasantly suprised by their program. just today, i received an interview invitation from georgetown, which was totally unexpected. so, october's been a pretty eventful pre-med month for me. best of luck to all you guys.

Hi Folks, hope you're coming along okay.

What is frustrating to me is many of the schools where I should be complete, they still show me as incomplete - most of them because I sent my LORs before my app - haven't connected the two. I've called every school where I show incomplete to make sure they have everything, and they do, but I still remain incomplete - guess it's being stuck in the middle of the pack syndrome, eh?

Well, how are the rest of you coming along? ShyRem? MedStylee? Sally?

Got into Pitt yesterday, its the school i've liked the most so far and as of now I plan to attend. Its a great feeling and I hope you all get in too.... 😀 😀

Jim

I have a black hole between my house and the post office which is sucking every bit of med school mail into it's yaw. Or at least that's how it feels. I've had two pieces of communication since my UNECOM acceptance - a rejection from MCW last week and a rejection from Albany today. Still no word from my state school. 😡

Congrats JDW    Glad you got your top choice.. that's out of the ballpark!

Hang in there ShyRem, I've tried communicating with the schools to find out if they're missing anything - most of them sound really bogged down. They'll get to us - it's still really early in the cycle, they hand out interview invites through March..

I am feeling your guys same frustration about being complete and not being marked complete yet by schools. Some schools just take a long time to process apps, especially if you sent your LORs individually. I am also a re-applicant. Hopefully, the second time around will be the charm.

Haha.. I keep checking the August Mcater interview invites thread to see if they have moved at all - would you believe none of the schools I've applied to have offered interviews to august MCAT apps yet? - based on that, not scientific. But, it has only been TWO WEEKS - which isn't long, but man, it's felt like eternity that I've been coming home to the empty mailbox.. Come on, wake up, Ad Coms! 😴

Nice to meet ya, Baseball - good luck this cycle! 👍

Congrats, JDW! :hardy: way to go! I bet that is the best feeling in the world. Now you can sit back and let the schools fight over you.

It's funny, I saw that this thread had been updated, and realized that it's not October anymore. Is it just me, or are these months flying by? I thought MCAT scores would never come out, but now it's November and some schools are scheduling interviews for Jan and Feb. Kind of scary, since I haven't gotten any interview invites yet.

I think the post office is consipring against me too, ShyRem. A bridge a tenth of a mile from my house is being replaced, and I think the mail person didn't even bother to come up and deliver yesterday: I checked the mail at 6 pm yesterday and there was nothing. After that it was dark, so I didn't go back out again. I'm heading out this morning to see if there's anything.

Good luck, guys! We're all gonna get in somewhere!
