Yes, I know that we must re-write them - I'd have to since my last is about 4 years old - but I was wondering whether or not any of you are incorporating the fact that you are a re-applicant in your personal statement, and perhaps explaining how the past rejection(s) have tested your dedication to medicine and ultimately made you a better applicant?

Much Thanks.

Yes and no.

I would emphasize your improvement as a applicant and perhaps suggest you are a stronger applicant without openly saying you didn't get in last time. Some schools will know your are a reapplicant and some won't as you will probably apply to new schools too.

But its really your call. Everyone of us has asked the same question of ourselves.

The only consensus from what I can see if that you need to rewrite it.

The rest is up to you.

Just my opinion.

Good luck!

I wouldn't. I think it's important to dwell on the positive and the positive that came out of your rejection previously is what's important. So talk about the additional stuff you've done, but I wouldn't blatantly point out that one of the reasons is that you didn't get in... the other reasons (wanting to improve your knowledge, experience, help others, etc.) are more appropriate.

Thanks for the good advice guys (or gals)! Yeah, I guess it wouldn't look so great to make your past rejections a part of your current personal statement. I'll just have to search for a way to explain the time off and what I've been up to.
