If you refused acceptance for D.O. program in the previous cycle(2012), does it hurt your chance of getting into either MD or DO program this current round (2013)?

Short of a very good reason explaining why u declined the acceptance, it'll hurt u. People may question u interest in medicine, maturity.... why on earth would u apply to a school if u won't attend it after being accepted... again, u better have a good answer...

It will look bad for DO schools, but MD schools will not know about this.

Was there a reason you declined rather than deferred?

Not exactly true. Many MD school secondaries ask if you have been accepted to medical school before, and if you have, they want an explanation of what happened.

That's definitely not true; many schools will ask if you have MATRICULATED to medical school before but not if you've been accepted. MD schools won't know at all, but as someone else mentioned, DO schools will know. Obviously you won't be able to get into the DO school you turned down but maybe you can explain your way out and get into another DO school.

The truth is there are so many applicants waiting to get that spot, if you don't take it the someone else will get it. Unless you really made the effort to being a douche/idiot to the administration or the dean, you just another applicant for them.
If you are applying to the same school that you got accepted..then it will be a problem.
