Someone earlier this month posted some interesting statistics regarding the number of completed/ started AADSAS applications already as compared to last year. I was curious with how competitive last cycle was how many of these new apps were re-applicants. So...... how many of you out there are re-applicants?

yikes... sorry about the double post

me too tambien

That makes 4 of us.

count me in 🙁 that makes 5. Should have done a lot betta w/requirements last cycle. ex: applied late--1 day b4 the TMDSAS deadline 😱 DAT scores/ recs could have been better, (and the violin plays--lol) etc. etc my best shot last cycle was Baylor--got alternate list for thier school AND their post bac program! What r the odds? & talk about false hope! lol, i think they're tryin to tell me something......

Re-applicant here, I was waitlisted, but I do not think I will get a spot this year, since there are only 80 seats at my school choice. But there is still a chance untill August, so I am told.

count me in too. I applied last year in my sophmore year and this year hopefully I can do better. Wish all of us luck.

Looks like some competitive stats anyone else belong to this group?

How many of you applied last year as juniors? I think that might have something to do with the high stats.

hey u guys.. i was wondering... for ppl who did not get in and were waitlisted.. and have been stuck in this stupid waiting game.. are u guys goign to retake DAT? have u already done that? and have u already reapplied? cuz having to wait to hear from them has been giving me false hope!!! =( 😡 and basically waisted my time... so i wanted to know how things are for you guys... does it make sense to still wait till august to hear fromthem and not apply? or not take the DAT?

i'm reapplying this year...i graduated in May was waitlisted at several schools, though I've given up hope. I'm not re-taking the DAT. I'm working full-time as a Dental Assistant instead. I hope that gives me an advantage this year. My GPA is good, but my DAT could have been better. But I don't think I'd score higher if I re-took it...in fact, I'm scared I'd do worse. So hopefully a year of experience in a dentist office will help push me from wait-listed to accepted.

Hi! I'm a reapplicant too! But my stats don't mean a thing now, I basically applied for the cycle of 2006 in February 2006. Stupid me. I called up the deans and admissions people...they told me that basically they were pretty close to having their class seatings filled and were just waiting for the enrollees' decisions and what not. Bleh, what a waste of my time and money...all stupid on my part for putting everything off and procrastinating the application process.

Retaking the DAT next week, I know I can do much better than the first DAT.
GPA is not going to change, I graduated this May.
Experience, I have no problem with this portion.

I sent in my AADSAS 2007 this weekend. I can only cross my fingers now, and make sure my application (ie. LOR's, new DAT) is fully completed.

Good luck, everyone!

yup same boat! and worse yet: my gpa went DOWN! 3.33 to 3.22

Yep, $15/school if I remember right off of ADA's website. Not a problem getting it sent out as the ADA is pretty quick handling those requests. It is also available for the schools to download from the ADA.

On your AADSAS application it asks you to list future DATs. If you are writing in August and you specify this on your application, the schools won't look at your app until they receive your latest scores. I know, because it happened to me. IMO, I would just send the latest scores when they are available. No sense sending in the old ones, if the schools will be waiting for the new ones irregardless.

shoot.. that means im goign to be late again in the cycle.. cause by the time they get the scores it will be late =( i dont know why ididnt think of that.... iits stupid that u would have to pay again for them to see your old scores...

Hrm, I said to myself that I wasn't coming back here because it makes me nervous... everyone's high stats and all...

Anyway, I'm reapplying this year. I am applying to double the number of schools I did last year. And my application was submitted on May 18th. Hasn't been mailed yet. I think I'm taking the DAT for the third time, although I'm having trouble making myself study.

Hopefully I get in somewhere this year. This dream is really getting to be expensive!

Sorry man I know how you feel, I submitted semi-early last year but no schools would look at my app until my DAT scores were in. I wrote in November, so I received my score in December and they were received by the schools almost in January. Needless to say I was late and now I'm reapplying this year.

Ah mr Leeuwenhoek! the stupid CDA! god I hate Fatna at CDA, cant belive the canadians are soo bloody far behind, nov and feb DAT tests dates only, plus note that last year some schools did not get the letter from CDA containing my scores!!

hey man i hope the dbl cohort makes teh same mistake as us, in applying to US schools

cheers

Very similar here -- although I graduated May 2005 (Cornell), started another career, and decided last November that I wanted to go to dental school...took the DAT 01/09/06, scores were 21 AA/18 TS/18 PAT, got onto 4 waiting lists, although I am not keeping my hopes up. Sent in my app. for 2007 like a month ago, still waiting for it to be mailed out! Taking the DAT again in August (after I finish organic chem, hadn't taken it when I took the DAT the first time). Like what was said above, for me the 2006 app. was an unbelievable expenditure of cash for no result. Hope this year turns out better, for all of us!

How long does it take for the ADA to send the DAT scores, I cannot remember. I cannot believe I didn't think of this. Is it useless that my applications got sent out in the first batch of AADSAS now?

It takes about two weeks. Some schools receive them sooner and some acccept unofficial faxes.

all of you reapplicants' scores are starting to worry me... why didn't you people get accepter? 3.8+ GPAs with 21+ AA's should be a definite thing

can any of you guys (maybe those first five or so people who said they got rejected the first cycle but have 3.8-4.0 GPAs and 20+ AA) kind of give a heads up as to what went wrong?

I have a 3.81 gpa, my aa was a 19. I think that a major factor for a lot of us is when we applied. That is why there are so many people on here freaking out about when their application gets mailed. From what I have gathered, you have a much better chance of acceptance if you get an early interview as opposed to a later one. By that time, they have selected most of their class and you may not fit what they need.

yeah, while i'm not one of the ones with an AA or TS of 20+ i agree with timing. last year, i though "oh, submitting to AADSAS in August is early. but my applications didn't arrive to schools until october. my one interview was at my state school, MCG, and i apparently blew it from there.

I applied as a junior and only applied to a couple of state schools...they didn't like the fact that I wouldn't have a degree by the time I matriculated and told me to apply again this year.

I'm reapplying for fall 2007. I applied WAY too late last time. I'm retaking the DAT, doing more volunteer work, etc. I will get in this time... (positive thinking)!

I'm reapplying too. I applied in July last year, but only to 4 schools and I ended up on the wait list at two. I'm hoping to still get in, but have my application in for the next cycle already and am applying to quite a few more schools.

Best of luck to all the reapplicants!

Undergrad: 3.2
Grad: 3.8
DAT: 22/21/22

to all of you guys.. i have a question... if you are retaking the DAT... when you sign up for the test from the website... do u put down the names of all the schools you are applying to ? or ull select a few..wait..take the test and then add the rest of the schools?

I suppose that what you're saying is possible, though it doesn't seem like a good idea to hide your scores from the adcom if you didn't do well. Things like that have a tendency to come back and bite you. The DAT isnt all that bad if you study hard for it. Get the Kaplan book and study like crazy and I'm sure you'll do better this time around. Best of luck.

so is Aug. 1 waaaay too late to submit my application?

Way to late.... no. Yet, hitting the start of the late side.

If you are submitting your AADSAS application on August 1 then AADSAS will have 4-8 weeks before they put your application in the mail to send it to your schools. This could happen, regardless of how many phone calls you make, as late as October 1 (8 weeks after submission). This is a late application.

If AADSAS takes pity on you then you might get your application sent no earlier than Sept 1 (4 weeks after submitted). This is not early but not ridiculously late either. However, you have to consider the entire application process. Once the schools open your AADSAS package, the adcom reviews it, sends you a secondary, you send them a check, then the school decides to interview you so they contact you and schedule you for and inteview sometime late october/early november, then they make a decision or request fall semester grades. This seems like a tight timeline for December letters.
