Hi yall!

It's time for us early birds to jump the gun! I'm putting the final touches on my application this week, and looking for a research program - which I want to add to my EC's before I submit.

I was hoping to hear from one of the two waitlists I'm on, but I set a date for June that if I didn't hear, I'd go into high gear on the re-application. So buckle up, here we go!

Im in your boat applying late for me last time hurt me so i wanna get my stuff done by next week, i doubt there not much of a real difference applying june 10 than june 1st. I'm also on a waitlist but i can't sit on picking my nose waiting to hear from them. good luck wiht all your reaps hope this time will be different for everyone

I am getting prepared to get my act together for a third round as well. Still on 2 WL's, but I have decided to take a pessimistic/realistic outlook on my chances for the Class of 2009.

Here we go again!!

Me too, I just sent in my application fee last night. Good luck to everyone this cycle! :luck:

I guess I'm not alone. Did you guys wait a year before applying again or are you guys applying right away? Good luck everyone!

Can I have/be a buddy, too? After applying late (ok, VERY late) last year, I've got AMCAS and AACOMAS ready to go. Waiting for some reviews of my essay to come back, should have them by Monday next week.

*sniff* No love for me last year.

We're all buddies, just stand up, introduce yourself, and welcome to the group.

I think this is like AA, or should we call is LAA - Late Applicants Anonymous. My name is ingamina, I too really was late last year, I don't think I was complete anywhere until November - haha. Looking back, I threw my application together and slapped a stamp on it thinking it was a sure thing. Boy was I naive.

Keep this in mind while putting on the final touches, the admissions folks look for careful thoughtfulness in every area of your application. Put your application together like a delicate surgery, take your time. We'll be here to swab your forhead if the goin' gets rough!! Nurse, we need a pure motive IV drip, and a genuine sponges, stat! Should I put this analogy to bed, okay, Anesthesiology, we're going under. Count to 10 backwards....

oooh, nice analogy. I think I'm joining the buddies here, and trying to squeeze in a few more ECs before submitting AMCAS after MCAT scores are released.

Good luck, everyone.

I am preparing a 2006 AMCAS, but I will probably hold off submitting it until the end of June. I am still on 2 WLs, at least one has a good movement history. If I'm still on a WL, and the school that I am WL'd at gets a 2006 AMCAS, does that hinder me in any way? Does it help (i.e. show interest in the school)?

I'm still holding out a little hope. We'll see.

I am in a similar situation and have the same question; re-applying soon, but still on a waitlist at a school to which I will be sending my app. So I guess I am writing to join the group of waitlist hopefuls who applied late in the cycle last year, but also realists who have a plan B 😉.
Good luck to you all! I hope you hear good news soon :luck:

Haha - same boat here..
I actually went and spoke with an adcom member of one of my waitlist schools - she said that they treat the new application just as all the others - which means it will probably be sent in a pile with other new applications and read at the same time, that's only fair, she said. They will look over my previous application to see what has changed, but as far as providing any special hit me up, or display of persistence, they try to structure things to avoid any favoritism of that kind.

Not that this is how it works at every school, but I think if it is going to help, it couldn't hurt. So you could go for it. But what I am doing is trying to make my application as good as possible before I submit, so trying to get things organized for this next year - might get into a 9-month master's program., and I want to get into some research.. But I want one more EC which says "I'm serious, damnit!" I won't submit until I have something new for the next year, if I am, in fact, going to be waiting another year..

Giddy up....I'm back on the roller coaster!

Hey ShyRem. I'm reapplying this year too. Submitting late (end of July) last year with the August MCAT was a big no-no, as was being a borderline applicant from a (gasp) state school. I submitted my AMCAS yesterday (June 1, oh yeah), but I haven't finished the AACOMAS yet. I'll probably do that after finals week is over (stupid quarter system).

:luck: to all us reapp people, especially those who are applying for the third time. Yikes, how do you guys have the strength? This is just my second time, and while I feel more confident and organized than last time, this process takes a lot out of ya.

I submitted beginning of July last year, but also took August MCAT. To compound matters, my LOR writers didn't get stuff out until almost the end of November. 🙁. So now I've graduated (with honors!! 😀). While my MCAT is ok (29), my TOTAL GPA is not great due to craptastic grades from 18 years ago - I think I have something like a 3.2 total/3.4 BCPM. But I do have 10 years as a paramedic, 5 years as a firefighter, and lots of other awesome experience. I also got my degrees this time around in 3 years. AMCAS is done, and I'm trying to pare down my essay by another 500 characters for AACOMAS. My grades by year look pretty funny - 2.6/1.8/3.95/3.7. Obviously the first two years were the craptastic grades, and the second two were the past three years.

Personally, I'm finding the second time around MUCH easier. I feel like I have an idea of what's coming, what's expected, and a time schedule. I also have learned much since the "premed advisors" at my itty bitty state school spouted lots of fertilizer. But I'm gonna be broker than broke when this round is over.

Hi Guys,

I'm a reapplicant, first applied for the class of 2004, now have taken some time off, and started reapplying again. I've been working on my personal statement for a month now, trying to get it polished to submit ASAP. Last time, I submitted everything at the last possible minute, but primaries and secondaries. . . pretty much was interviewing for a spot at the waitlist at the 1 school I got an interview (in march). but this time, I know better. . . med school, here I come.

Any buddies on AIM? Im me . . . sn=zeephro.

Anyone else having trouble thinking of a new personal statement topic? major writer's block here.

write about fishtacos. not the food, but you.
😎

OK! Submitted AMCAS last night. They have one transcript already (only took 1 week to get it from my latest school). Getting ready for a 2 week vacation (sorely needed) to Virginia. While I'm there I'm going to visit the VCU campus (I called and apparently there's no one to talk to in admissions, but the campus is open for "self-guided tours").

UGH--yes! I am thinking of using part of last year's PS but adding some new stuff and reorganizing it. I am on two WL's but planning to submit 2006 AMCAS very soon so I won't be behind if neither of them comes through.

ShyRem, Im in a similar boat. Have worked for past five years as a medic, emt for two years before that. My original bachelors from 1996 had a crappy (in med school terms) 2.83. My second Bachelor's that I finish this summer has about a 3.77 and also only 3 years to complete. I am also a shamefull member of LAA (late appliers annonymous) submitting my AMCAS last year in Sept. Still on two waitlists, but starting to breathe out the breath I've been holding since April.

Good luck ths year to all!!

I shouldn't reply late at night. ft, you may not have to change anything, if it's well-written. Ask yourself...have my experiences, insights, motivations changed? If not, have someone else look over your PS. Maybe another set of eyes is what you need. 👍

Keep The Faith

is there a difference btw being in the "hold" category and the waitlist?
i was just taken off the hold on 5/15 and my app is being re-reviewed so i guess i'm in a worse situation than WL? 🙁

guess i better start the amcas 06

I'm not familiar with hold vs. waitlist. My guess is that if thy're still reviewing your file, you are still inthe running for a slot - so I might guess better than waitlist. Best way to find outis call & ask 😉

From what i know, which I was told at Loyola, Hold is when they like you but wanted to see more before approving you to the waitlist. This made it seem that the WL is higher than the hold option. Thats may only be for Loyola though. Good luck...Im WL at two schools, and have already started AMCAS 06 😎

OK! One more hurdle down: aacomas app submitted and paid for. My poor credit card is whimpering..... I sure hope I see secondaries starting to pile at my doorstep when I get back from vacation!

hello everyone - nice to know there are people in a similar situation. I applied this year and now im on two waitlists. Im pretty sure I will be re-applying and Id like to get my amcas out sometime in june- my quesiton is for those of you who are re-applying immediatly like I am what are you doing next year? I applied to so 1 year masters programs as back-ups. Also what are you doing different this year on your amcas and are you using the same recs? HELP

I believe Change is the operative word for reapplicants. Most schools don't give re-apps any extra consideration, in fact, it might even be tougher, because they will look at your previous application and review why you were not offered acceptance previously.

So, the logical thing to do is try to show that you are a stronger applicant. This can be with a better thought out personal statement, stronger letters of recommendation, new activities and educational adventures to show that you are, in fact, playing to practice medicine one way or another, and - if you're up for it - a new MCAT score. Show them you're serious, and you can make being a reapplicant an advantage rather than another failed attempt.

I'm jumping on the re-app boat guys. Working on my PS this week.

helloooo all.

i'm reapplying this year for the '06 entering class, having worked a full year at a biotech company after graduation (may 2004). I'll continue working there throughout this year. First year I applied was back in 2003 for the '04 entering class.

I've taken the MCATs twice, both in 2003...scored 24 and 26. I'm taking it again this August. Undergrad GPA = 3.25....graduated with BA Bio & BA Arabic. I've also been volunteering in the ER for about 7 months and continue to do so. I volunteer at various other non-medical programs as well.

Q1: What do you think my chances are? Any suggestions?
Q2: Should I have my employer write me a rec letter? Will it help?
Q3: My fiance got accepted in med school last month ('05 entering class). We plan to get married @ end of 2006. Am I at an advantage when applying to her med school (which is currently "out-of-state" for me)?

Thanks. 👍

Are you applying to DO schools as well?

I just paid for Round 2 as well.....it was painful to see those numbers just add up every time I added another school.... 👎 +pissed+

I haven't paid yet. I was just offered a really cool job with a state police agency. I'm debating whether I should wait until I start to add it to my application. (I'm applying only DO)

I'm also a bit upset, as being on call all the time will hinder my interview opportunities. I'd also hate to join and leave in a year.

Decision time I guess. 😕

There is a long history of schools 'supporting' fiances and wives/husbands etc. I actually had a classmate of mine from my masters tell her boyfriends med school (tulane) that they were engaged so she could float to the top of the list for a transfer. They're still together and she just started her 4th year. I think they're actually engaged now and her boyfriend is in his residency here. I'd say your future spouse could a) MAYBE help you in the 10th decimal...if you're on the line, it could move you to the good side. But if your numbers are subpair and you don't have great extras..papers, a career as a Medic in rural Wyoming (a friend of mine) then apply everywhere...go wherever and do really really well there for a year while you work on transferring. Professors and doctor couples do very well and some schools...I know Tulane and University of Chicago..probably many catholic schools are good for the couple thing.

goodluck!

sarah;-)

PS Same as I told the other guy, try ODs with a Caribbean safety...you can transfer from the Caribbean like a classmate of my boyfriend who also just graduated from Tulane and you MAY be able to transfer fromOD to MD...I've heard of it, but don't know if her school is cool with it.

Just wanted to say:

Happy Birthday, ingamina! :hardy:

Hope all of us get in somewhere this year!

😱 I didn't know people paid attention to those things!!!

And we will get in, come hell or high water!!!
I just submitted my Amcas. My PS was probably the most difficult part of this cycle, I rewrote that damned thing so many times. Finally was happy with the last version, so I thought I'd waited long enough.

Good luck to everyone!

Thanks for the response. I will be applying everywhere in addition to my fiance's school. I'm also applying to one DO school. I guess the question of transferring can only come into play after I've been accepted somewhere, anywhere. So I'm giving it a whirl.....
