Hi everyone! I finally got my official rejection email from UC Davis today, the only school to which I applied. I was anticipating this and am mostly just relieved that it's finally over. So, instead of talking about our file reviews and what we're gonna do to improve ourselves (because I'm sure that's what a lot of us are thinking about), let's talk about reasons why we're glad we aren't going to vet school in the Fall!

I'll start!

1) We'll be the class of 2013, and 13 is a prime number. That's way more special than 12, which is a hussy of a number that's divisible by a lot of others. Unique snowflakes. 😉

2) We have another year to make a whole bunch of money so that we totally won't have to put ourselves chin deep in debt, right? Um, right? Well, maybe we'll win the lottery. Or rob a bank. They allow you to do correspondence courses from prison for vet school, right? 😀

3) I can wait another year to have to buy a whole new laptop when I haven't even had this one for that long! And I don't need to switch off of Linux either.

So come on, let's have some fun with this. 🙂

😀woo woo nyanko! I like your thinking!
I am actually an alternate for western this year so while I have a *slight* chance of still getting in this fall I have decided that it won't be too aweful if i don't because:
1) I live about 3 blocks away from the ocean in san diego-not exactly a terrible place to be "stuck" for another year!
2) we have gone through the application process already-so we will know what is comming and it won't (hopefully) be as stressful this time around!😍
3) this gives us more oppurtunity to do "fun stuff" ..after all we have the rest of our lifes to be vets!

1) I get to spread my gardening obsession, because I have no tests due around transplanting time.
2) I won't be sweating as much small stuff as I used to, and that wasn't much in the first place.
3) Weeeeeee! More time for the Sims2, and Dragonfable, and MechQuest, and Super Mario Sunshine, and whatever else I get roped into playing with the kids.

1) I moved back to Miami (NO WINTER THIS YEAR!!!!!!) 😀
2) I actually get to work at a vet clinic and work with animals, versus the last four years where i pretty much lived in the library
3) another year of self-discovery, meeting new people, and GOOD TIMES!!!!

GOOD LUCK THIS ROUND EVERYONE!!!! apps are available in less than 3 months. . . . :luck:

Don't forget that you get to see if the post office hires a new letter carrier, giving you a new stalking target!

13 = Baker's Dozen = bonus doughnut. 😀

(First thing that came to mind--I'm hungry right now!)

I forgot my favorite reason of all - NEW AVATAR TIME! Sticking with the time honored tradition, the subject matter is the same but it's a different...perspective!

But I wanted to graduate vet school in 2012 and be the 12th Man 🙁

Time to start a new tradition! 13th man it is!

So I'm technically stuck in Illinois (where we currently have a massive blizzard), but still it will be fun
1) summer vacation in maui here I come (first time out of illinois in YEARS)
2) make some money baby
3) and best of all...... NO CLASSES FOR A YEAR! 😀😀😀😀😀

If I don't get off of the waitlist than...

1) Now that I have gone through the application process I know I can do a much better job the second time around especially in the interview

2) I can get more research done😀

3) More time in which to win the lottery so that I will not go into debt

4) I won't have to give up excess extracurriculars for another year

I love this thread. Heres mine....

1. More time to sleep. (yeah not getting to much of that in VS and I REALLY like to sleep)
2. A year to loose 20lbs that I hear all vet students put on due to stress and "study" eating!

Ok, ok...here are mine:
1) I get to spend another year in my cabin in the woods (which I love)
2) More time to spend with my kids (& by that I mean my cats)
3) When you're getting up there in years, what's another year?--2012, 2013, etc.--I'll still be the class granny! 😛
4) I only need haul out my application pile-O-s**t (transcripts, etc.) from the last round & this year's apps are already 90% done!
5) And (maybe most importantly) still keep a schedule for another year that allows for 😴!!

I am browsing this thread from the HTC Mogul I bought because I will be making money instead of going into debt next year! Another cool thing!

1) enjoy my dogs in their old age and their company before I live in the library for another few years

2) a more relaxed year than I probably would have while in first year of vet school

3) more time to work in a veterinary office and see relevant cases that will make my veterinary studies come alive when I finally get in
(I can just see myself in vet school poring over a book and thinking "Ohhh, I remember that St. Bernard puppy I saw with bloat..." or "so that's what that disease is called, we had one of those that one time...")

4) more opportunities to adjust to a face-paced veterinary environment and make decisions/ follow directions without a lot of time (if I work at the same office I worked at last year - it was a walk in clinic that saw 80 patients a day between 2 vets - you probably think I'm kidding - so tons and tons of interesting things to see.)

5) more opportunities to learn how to do cool things like take blood samples, urine samples, take better X-rays... and maybe I'll actually have a chance to learn how to do the things they mentioned last year such as using/learning to read an ultrasound

6) Seeing my bf more often than I would if I was busy learning all the time

7) an opportunity to move back home and catch up with people I haven't seen much of since high school (I grew up in southern california and went to college in upstate new york, so have mostly been staying in touch via email, facebook, aim, and myspace)

8) I will definitely be less anxious about the application process - after getting rejected from 100% of the veterinary schools I applied to this year, it can only stay the same or get better from here, right?

9) not racking up debt from living expenses as I will be living in my parents' house rent free, unlike the last 4 years

10) remember that I'm only 22 years old, that this is still a young age, that life is too short to freak out about some *minor* detail such as getting into veterinary school (even if I've spent the last 15-18 years of my life dreaming about it) and just trying to live day to day😀 instead of constantly worrying 🙁about the future.

1. Being able to spend the year going to dog shows.

2. Spending time with my husband.

3. Spending time with my 11 year old German Shepherd

4. Spending time with my horse.

5. Sleeping in!!!!!

6. Hanging out with my sister-in-law - she is the sister I never had

A-freakin'-men, sister. I'm with you 100% on this one.

Well, it's quite possible that I won't be applying for 2013 now. Pending some really tough decisions over the next month or so, I may be going for 2014 so I need to think up something good about that.

It's not set in stone yet though. And the fact remains that I may still have all the free time in the world to play video games and maybe even watch some new anime that I've not seen yet instead of studying for icky old anatomy exams. 😉

nyanko, is that good news or bad news in the grand scheme of life if you arnt applying for 2013?

I think I'm waiting too. We'll definitely be prepared when it comes application time in 2009... lots of time to think, hear the whole application process without actually being involved, and get some more experience. At least that's how I see it.

I just don't want to go IS, but ned more time to be anywhere near good for OOS. Is that a lame reason?

I hope your decision making goes well, Nyanko, and let us know what you decide. 🙂

The reasoning for me is that I might enter a 2 year MS program here. Not going into too much detail yet, but it's an option that I didn't think was open to me, but it is, so I am exploring it pretty thoroughly. I hate having to decide this before I even have my file review, though. 😛

Well, unless one of my wait-lists comes through, it looks like I can totally post on this thread! 😛

1) I've never had experience in a lab (except with data entry stuff for a professor), so I think it'll behoove to work in a lab to see if pathology is the field I truly want to pursue.

2) More time to go up to Boston to see my bf... and possibly move up there for the year! Plus, there are so many lab opportunities up there!

3) More time to spend with friends and family that I won't see once I'm in vet school.

Booyah! 😎

That sounds really exciting! Let us know more whenever you're comfortable. Good luck with your choice! 🙂

Ive been reconsidering my options for when I apply in the fall. My first thoughts were apply anywhere I would meet the pre-reqs for, but I am starting to think thats not the best idea. Instead just apply to the 2 or 3 schools I actually want to go to and see how the cards fly. If I don't get in, I love my job and wouldn't mind spending another year in the area. If I got in somewhere and decided I didnt want to go there, turning it down would probably be worse than having just not applied in the first place.

I really need to visit some schools this summer to see which ones I like.
