Any advice on re-applying to programs I was rejected at last year?

First time I applied as an undergrad senior in 2008, I was rejected by two clinical PhD programs (A & B) without an interview invite. I got into some PsyD's, but decided to work instead and re-try for a PhD.

Now I would like to apply again for clinical PhD's for entering Fall 2011 (after 2 years clinical RA experience). I would like to apply to A & B again, in addition to 8-10 schools that I have not ever applied to.

Do you think it is worth it, or would it be a waste to reapply to those schools? My GPA and GRE's are above the average stats on those program's websites, and I now have 2 years as an RA.

Sure...can't hurt, especially if your interests match the professor's! 2 years if research experience should significantly help your applications! Perhaps you also gained more clinical experience during this time as well....

It will show them that you are very interested in their program. You know you want to go there and you are trying again.

I applied last year to a number of schools, but I am only reapplying to one of the same this year. We'll see how it works out.

If you're really interested in those programs then I say go for it. Many qualified applicants with above average stats are in the same boat as you ... apply a first time and get rejected, take some time off and work on their stats, reapply, gain acceptance to a great program. Plus, your experience shows that this is something you really want especially since you're going for round two. Goodluck.

This!

Sounds like you're good to go, good luck!

as long as you still feel the programs are a good fit, then I would definitely do it.

I'm reapplying this year, but did not choose any of the same programs. I know there are many reasons as to why I didn't get accepted last year, but I really feel that the personal statement and fit were what mattered in the end. POI contact prior to application always helps as well!

At an interview last year one of the interviewees was invited back after interviewing the previous year.

I gained acceptance to a program that I reapplied to. Definitely give it another shot!
