I checked my status with one med school that is on my first choices. They said that I was reviewed, the committee had not been able to make a decision and that they will review me again (before Feb/March-- ie in time for a proper interview). "So, in other words I am on HOLD," I said... No. replied the lady at the admi office. What do you all think? Is this the same as a HOLD, better or does it even mean much other-- well, you have strengths and weaknesses we are sort of overwhelmed right now and we will come back to you later.

It sounds like they're going to wait to review other applications to get a better idea of what kind of applicant pool they're dealing with this cycle. They'll probably take a quick look at your app a little later, see how it stacks up to their other applicants and proceed with your application from there. If that's what you define as a "hold" then it sounds like a hold to me.

I agree with 'Pollster527' - it sounds like a HOLD, although I doubt there is a standard official definition of that term across the board. "Hold" to one school might be "in review" to another.

Because the admissions committee has seen your file, I doubt the delay in their decision is due to a high volume of applications. Based on how I define it, I'd say you're on hold.
