Quick question:

I took AP Calc in high school, but needed to take a higher level Calc for my econ major. So after my freshman year of college I took it at home, and just got a B (mainly because I took it lightly, thinking the grade would never matter for me). Now that I'm doing a post-bacc, I realize what a mistake that was.

The question: is it worth it to re-take Calc II (I can get an A, especially now that I know I need one) to average out the B, or just leave it as is.

I do not see any reason to retake it. It will not affect your stats much if you get A's in your main prereqs.

Absolutely not. The med schools that requires Calc II are few and far between, and the last time I checked a B was still a decent grade. Even if you got an A the second time around, they would average out to a B+, which would move your cum undergrad GPA up maybe 1/50th of a grade point.

I can't tell if this post is serious or not, but if you're not kidding....wow.

Depending on how you apply, it may change things.

AACOMAS (DO online application service) will replace grades if you take a class over again. Thus your B would become an A

AMCAS (MD online application service) will average your grades, so your A + B = 3.5 for two classes.

Either way, not much gain for going through the trouble of Calc II all over again.

I realize it seems a bit out there, but I'm getting worried about the whole BCPM GPA, and as a post-bacc I'm assuming that this B could significantly tarnish what i'm hoping will be a solid gpa in all the post-bacc classes. I realize it won't affect my overall undergrad gpa-that's not my concern though.
