So a little background, I made a few mistakes my freshman year and it affected my GPA. I ended up transferring and had a 3.7 or higher my last 6 semesters. However, my overall science and cumulative is around a 3.1. Also, my first MCAT I took before I was ready and got a 497. I retook the test and scored a 503. Currently, I work as a medical assistant and also volunteer, plus I'm taking a couple of science courses to boost my GPA, have shadowed a bunch, and I'm also a URM. I applied the last cycle and had a couple of interviews but never got in. Even though it's early in the cycle, I'm concerned that things might not go my way. Even though my extracurriculars are pretty solid, I feel like that isn't enough. So my question is, other than a Caribbean MD, what do you think my best option is? I would prefer not to spend a bunch of money to get a masters, and re-taking the MCAT will essentially be saying that this cycle is a waste. Any advice on school choices and other things would be helpful! Thanks

Unless you can blow your MCAT out of the water (510+), I wouldn't retake it. Have you applied to DO schools?

Whatever you do though, don't do Caribbean MD. It's not worth it.

I applied DO last cycle but didn't have my application complete until December. Hopefully this time I will have some luck though since I was completed in June. Thanks for the advice!

Did you apply to a bunch of DO programs last cycle and this cycle?
I have applied to about 7-8 so far this cycle. Being a MT resident makes things difficult but I'm hoping that a DO school works out. Thanks! Interviewed at EVMS last cycle but I think that was luck of the draw.

If you were able to get a couple MD interviews last cycle then I think you will def be able to get interviews from multiple DO programs. Much better option than going Carib. I'd apply to more than ~7 though, add a bunch more.
