Hi,
I just finished my first round of applying this year with no interviews from M.D schools and one interview to TOURO D.O in Harlem. And I have settled with the realization that I will be re-applying for the next round of applications. First of all my stats
Overall Undergrad GPA 3.33
Undergrad science: 2.73
MCAT in 2006 V:8 P:8 B:9 O
While in undergrad, I worked part time (20- 30 hours a week) for all four years, did Honors research in Neuropsychology for one year, was a peer mentor for incoming freshmen -2 years, was a TA for 2 years, volunteered as a guide and aid for incoming international students for two years, was a volunteer phone counselor for 1 year, co-started a community service organization and was a club officer for a Political Science club and involved in oversease conferences for the club 2 years in a row.
After undergrad, I worked 1 year as a Behavioral Clinician. Then I did my Master's in Boston U. School of Medicine ( in Anatomy and Neurobiology). There I took Medical School Gross Anatomy, and then became a T.A for the course. I also took med school Physiology. I also took Psychopathology, Neuroanatomy, Cognitive Neuro, Anatomy research, biostats etc.
Overall GPA 3.4
Science 3.4
While doing graduate work I was a volunteer for the Boston Medical Reserve Corp. And was also an instructor for the American Red Cross in CPR/First Aid. I retook the MCAT and got V:8 P:8 B:10 Q
After graduating and finishing my thesis I worked one year as a medical assistant and in June will be taking a new research job in neurohistology. I continue to volunteer for the American Red Cross and also volunteer for the army ( my husband is active duty).
I am planning to retake the MCAT end of July and planning to apply for the Fall of 2010. In the mean time I know that my undergraduate science has been weak. Should I re-take my Orgo classes? ( I: B- II:C+) or even Microbiology C over the fall? Will the schools even get to see my grades? I already did my Master's which could technically fall as an SMP. So I don't really see any way to improve my GPA right now unless I take Post-Bac classes. I looked into it and the local university near me does have Orgo and Mic classes at night.
Please advise. I have lots of clinical, volunteer experience and will have more research experience soon.
