Hello,

Does anyone have thoughts about whether re-taking courses for M.D. program admissions would be useful/advantageous? Might this route be seen as an indicator of commitment/willingness to take responsibility for past failure?

I realize that grades in re-taken courses don't replace original marks.

Thank you,

Would As in re-taken courses change anything? I've made As in many courses comparable to courses I failed (did the work or I didn't); I've taken no science courses.
3 Fs & 8 Cs, a couple of withdrawals, & several incompletes. Otherwise, I've earned 2 Bs, 2 B-s, 4 B+s, & 19 A-s+As.

Thank you.

Ah, got it. Actually, the preferability of upper level courses works well, since AACOMAS accepts higher level courses with similar content for grade replacement purposes.

Would this principle still apply for humanities courses? Would Eng 300: American Lit, best Eng 400: American Lit? Similarly, would Eng 320: American Lit trump Eng 354: American Lit? I ask because, at least in my experience, humanities course difficulty/course load correlates fairly weakly with course level. AMCAS assuming otherwise, wouldn't surprise me, though.

Now are these all non-science/non-prereqs?
Yes.

Are you a nontraditional student?
Yes, I'm 23, have taken a couple of LOAs, and began college interested in screen-writing.

I'll add that all courses would be retaken at a different college.

Do you know whether both M.D. and D.O. programs prefer "retaking" courses at higher levels than those of original courses? Thank you,

When a student's performed well in humanities courses comparable in subject and level (e.g., A in Eng 323: Romanticism) to courses in which grades of C or below have been earned (e.g., F in Eng 342: 19th Century Literature), would strong grades in higher level courses (of content similar or different to that of failed courses; e.g., same subject but different topic; e.g., F in Eng 342: 19th Century Lit; "retake" A in Eng 453: American Novel or F in Eng 342: 19th Century Lit v A in Eng 432: Women Writers in 19th century lit) be useful?

Would this route confer advantage, in the AMCAS admission process, beyond strong grades (earned before or after C or below grades in courses same level+subject classes) in comparable level+subject courses?

Thank you,
