LOL, they probably take longer to read than they did to write. But then again I have fast fingers (insert innuendo here).

Comments? Did I miss anything? Obviously there are other important questions but they are not asked as frequently, thus they do not fulfill the criteria of a FAQ, namely that it be "Frequently asked."

People should still ask questions all the time, of course, even about stuff in the FAQ, but I thought it might help to see it all written down.

I also encourage everyone to look through the archives (change the date for oldest post so you see some of the older stuff - less off topic back then).

Thanks so much for taking the time to consolidate the pertinent info on the pages and pages of threads we got on this forum. Much appreciated!

You read fast, my friend.

I read fast but my retention sucks. I'll probably read it through a few times given that it IS a lot of information 😛

Hi, ya'll. Thank you all for the path information. I'm only a first year, so obviously I really don't know what I'm going to end up doing, but I was able to shadow a pathologist during my undergrad years and it is something that I'm definitely interested in. The info was very helpful and is appreciated. 🙂

Well Tiki, all we ask is that you keep path in mind and don't forget about it in the neverending crush of THE CLINICAL YEARS (soon to be a new TV series starring Fred Savage as the pretentious and whiny future surgeon, with his friend Paul who has his heart set on radiology ever since he aced the MCAT) when a young med student's fancy turns to the physical exam, wearing scrubs, and clipboards with patient lists on them.

Alas, but so many are lost along the way. So much misunderstand about what a great field path is.

Of course, obviously some people actually LIKE clinical medicine. But it is my belief that many people simply tolerate it.

Wow. Next you'll be telling me you wrote your personal statement in your sleep.

And I'd probably believe it!

My personal statement was delivered down to me from heaven on the back of a lighted winged angel. Trumpets heralded her arrival and she handed forth the statement. "Thus," she said, "Is delivered the statement of the heavens. Just are its praises. Glowing are its metaphors. Elegant is its prose." She passed forth a statement written in elegant calligraphy, on gold-leaf paper.

Then she flipped me off when I asked her if I could get a copy on disc, because I didn't want to xerox it. Damn angels. Have no concept of the modern world.

 That is the funniest thing I have ever seen on here. Truly this was the post of the gods.

I swear...sometimes I think yaah should've pursued a career as a comedian.

Hey yaah, there are a few places in town where you could do improptu standup routines...you should check them out.

I doubt I would make a good standup comedian. I enjoy more subtle humor. The written word is much more conducive to humor, IMHO. Unless of course you are talking about physical comedy.

I had nothing to do when I wrote that. I was sitting in the morgue waiting for the ME to come in to do the two cases we had. One of them was gross. Icky bugs. You go squish now. Somehow, this woman ended up hanging from a tree with a strong rope around her neck. The reason I say somehow is that she did NOT look like the type of person who could successfully navigate climbing a tree with few branches close to the ground, yet somehow the rope got tied to a branch about 8 feet off the ground. She also had nothing to stand on. Did she have help? Perhaps. I dunno. Picture Roseanne Barr trying to climb a tree, balance well enough to tie the rope to the branch, then her neck, and then leap off. I simply can't do that, and I have an active imagination.

You know the worst part? She left her car by the tree and some dipwads broke in and stole stuff. I hate people. People are slime.

That will be my next FAQ: Why are people such slime?

Spoken like the stereotypical pathologist. Note the adjective...remember this is coming from a person who gets defiant and combative whenever he gets accused of hating people hence going into pathology.

I like people on a one on one basis just fine. But they are sheep. It is the groups and collective herd attitude that gets my goat (wow, that's one too many barnyard references...). What else bothers me is what people do when they are either not being watched or have little fear of being caught, like the said slimebuckets breaking into a woman's car while she hangs from a nearby tree. People hide behind their anonymity and do stuff like cut you off on the highway or take your belongings if you leave them behind.

People are often quite pleasant if you can speak to them one on one.

My relationship with the human race is a complex and variable issue. We have our days where we simply do not get along very well and I would prefer the company of a spitting camel, because at least the spitting camel won't lie to you. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt while still maintaining a healthy skeptical and pessimistic attitude. They are allowed to cross me if it is done with good intentions and it is reasonable. But if they are doing it because they are lazy, cheap, or ill-intentioned, I call Shenanigans.

Totally agreed 👍
I couldn't imagine it but I'd hate to see you angry in real person...

Heh! Describes my daily routine 🙂

So either she wanted to kill herself really badly or somebody else did?
Human beings take quite some killing... and yet not at all.

I like people in theory, and one-to-one. It's everything else in between - the concrete day-to-day living - that I don't get.

Hey Yaah! Great job on the FAQS sticky. What a great resource for those with an interest in pathology. Also, somewhere in there you should mention that you are a PGY 1. How many PGY 1's do you know that have time to mod a board on sdn? Again great job! I bet there will be a bump in applications this year...
