To all of you who did well on the reading comp section of the OAT....

I received a 260 on the reading comp. So I scheduled to retake the OAT in december. Can anyone give me any advice, whether it be purchasing certain books, or doing anything that would help me boost my score to above 300 on the RC? I have everything i need for the other sections, its just the RC that im worrying about. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I would recommend practicing reading as many passages and doing practice problems as possible on a computer. Don't waste time reading passages on paper because you won't be underlining and making notes on a computer test. Also, timing yourself is important because you want to make sure you finish. Topscore CD has the same exact format that you will see on the actual test and it will give you practice with reading actively on a computer.

good luck! 👍

hey thanks for the reply. I had topscore and I didnt find it helpful when I saw the RC on the REAL OAT. The topscore RC was easy to do well on, you can pretty much just skim the passage to find the answer to each question. However, when I took the OAT, i noticed the reading was way more difficult and the questions had those:

The statement is true, but the reasoning is false

the statement is false, but the reasoning is true

or both are true, or both are false

so when the clock is ticking and the reading is so condensed and hard, you kind of panic and start messing up! so to prevent this again, i wanted to know what material i can use that will be similar in difficulty as the real OAT? Thanks!

the achiever is a good tool, but perhaps you should consider a new approach to the readings. if questions like that are confusing you, try to do something like take notes while you're reading on the things you KNOW are true and stand out. i dont know if that will help for you, but you just need to find a way to get comfortable with the passages and quickly get the key points.
