Hey everyone, I am having trouble grasping the best way to do well on the reading comprehension part. I have tried a lot of things but I was wondering (for those who have taken the DAT and did well in RC), what did you guys do to get a great score???

I am so lost, my DAT is in 2 weeks and I am freaking out.

I was in the same position up until the half way mark of the DAT. I just decided (as I was eating lunch lol) to read the passage and then do SnD. I never really got over 17 in RC before, and ended up with a 22.

The passages I got were interesting, and I enjoyed them. Not sure what would have happened if the passage was boring 🙁 They were all science-ish for me.

If you are a fast reader, I'd read the first few questions and then read the passage. Don't stop to go for an answer unless you know you got it for sure. If not, just keep reading, and read it to understand it. After that, SnD should be a breeze. It felt like there were no tricks, but thats probably because when I looked for answers, I looked for the right places (because I understood the passage in entirety).

Try this way, maybe you will do better with it. Can't hurt I guess 🙁

I am a slow reader and as scoring horribly trying to read the entire passage. So I quit reading them..I spent maybe 1 minute skimming the basic outline of the passage and went straight to the questions. This gives you 18-19 minutes just for answering questions. Usually they are asking for things word for word out of the passage find a key word or subject and skim the passage or look at your outline to get an idea of where it would be and then read a little deeper. There is an abundance of necessary info in the passage so why waste your time reading it.

I was initially score mid to low teens and then once I started this strategy my score improved dramatically. On the real DAT I ended up with a 25 on reading comprehension 😉
