Hello all,
I wanted to create a thread of books that pre-dents, dental students, and dentists recommend to enhance our understanding of the profession. Books can focus on soft skills, like leadership and teamwork, or harder skills like diagnosis and treatment planning. So far, my mentor who has a beautifully run and successful practice has given me:
The Art of the Examination
and
The Five Dysfunctions of a Team

I really liked the Art of the Examination. It makes a case for the Examination being the most important procedure that a dentist performs. It talks about the five Rs you can do to a tooth: remove, replace, reposition, restore, and re-shape. It also talks about the main reasons patients object to treatment: lack of funds, fear, lack of trust, lack of time, and a lack of urgency. My favorite quote from the book is: "The risk of insult is the price of clarity."

If anyone else has books that they think will enhance our dental education , please share!!!!!

I'm bumping this to see if there are other people that have some good reads that they would recommend for pre-dents!

I have two books that should be read. Especially for those going into any field involving care. They don't have anything to do with dentistry, but dental school is a relatively tough period in one's life. These two books will add a different perspective.

1) Grit by Angela Duckworth
2) Mindset by Dr. Carol Dweck
