Hello everyone,

I have been studying for sciences. I have not touched Math, Reading, and PAT. I am about to work on them now. I have 15 days before my test to get those under controls.
I am a non-native speaker. I am very concerned about the Reading part.
Some people on SDN did not even prepare for Reading part and scored over 23. Some scored 29, which is pretty impressive.
I will be reading scientific paper daily. I have just read Search and Destroyer and other methods on DAT Bootcamp website. There are 5 tests for Reading section on Bootcamp. Do you think if I do those 5 tests and learn the solutions and i will be fine for ready section?
Anyone who had done with DAT please give me your advice and calm everyone, just like me, down please!!!!!!!

I struggle with RC as well. English speaker, but still hard for me. I used BC, QVault, and Genius. At first I did just S&D, but it's kinda risky by itself. I tried reading half slowly, and then doing S&D, but it's also risky if the q's come mostly from the second half.

So here's what I have used lately on the last 3-4 exams that has worked and helped me get ~20 (not perfect, but 20 is still good):
-Skim the whole passage. If you want to (not necessary), write down "buzzwords" i.e anything that pops out: genus name, person, certain study etc. (I think this is better than trying to "summarize" each paragraph like in mapping)
-THEN do S&D. You will do a LOT less searching. It has helped me.

Plus, from what a lot of people have told me, the RC on the exam is much more straightforward.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for you input. I truly appreciated it. Have you taken your DAT? If not, When is yours?

English is my second language. So I was also worried about RC. I didn't score so hot but I got 20 on the real thing and I used search and destroy. I got an 18 on my first RC on BC. I think those 5 tests will be enough for you to practice! Just find your method and practice! You will be fine!

Congrats @sunram, 20 is my dream!!!!

Hi Shadowwalker,

Make sure you are prepared to encounter passages that might not work with search and destroy. My students have reported lately there have been a lot of tone type questions and with those type of passages you must have a good understanding of what the author is inferring.

All DAT test are not the same, and that includes the reading passages, so prepare wisely.

It is fantastic that you have been reading daily, it is important to pick up reading speed and comprehension.

Wishing you the best

Nancy

Hi Nancy, Thanks for always being on here with us. I have your advice in my mind.

Nancy is right. Be prepared to NOT use pure S&D. This is why I swayed away from using it solely, and began to start skimming in addition to using S&D (Ihave to skim because I need to read slow to understand what I read).
