I scored a 26 on RC; English is my second language, too.
I took the Kaplan course as well as TopScore. I felt like Kaplan was really good with RC. TopScore only focuses on detail questions, but other than that, TopScore is really good, too.
Do not waste your time with ExamKrackers reading. I did about 80 passages with that book and it was a totally different experience. You have to read REALLY SLOWLY for the MCAT; whereas, you have to read SUPER FAST for the DAT. I'd read at 1/3 the pace on the MCAT as I did on the DAT while I was using ExamKrackers. I did manage to get about 10-12 on the ExamKrackers 101 passages, if that means anything.
As for strategy, I wrote down one-line-summaries for each paragraph while I was reading. If you use this method, don't get bogged down by writing TOO much.
Other than that, I just read normally but at a fast pace.
Honestly, I didn't think reading was that bad on the DAT. If you can do TopScore detail questions and Kaplan tone questions, then I think you are definitely ready.
Good luck!
