Anyone else out of school and working a full-time job before school starts and ready to quite working to just study? I guess I'm saying this cause I'm at work and working a 50hr week and am extremely tired. 🙁

Yes!!! I will be working FT up until it is time. I can't wait to only worry about (for the most part, anyway) just studying. I will be very poor yet rich in study!

I'm sick of my 3rd shift right now. I want to quit but need the money. I think I will quit by the end of May if not middle of June so I can have time to travel or take that much needed rest. Sometimes I wonder if I'm this lazy about working how can I handle working after medical school? Hopefully, by that time I will not see work as work but as a career and an opportunity to help people.

Yea, I work third shift as well (in the ER). The money is very nice, but I hardly have time to spend it cause I'm usually catching up on sleep when I'm not working. Oh, I look forward to the days of PBL. Studying for 6-8hrs a day and then the rest is my time. Well, that how I have it in my mind. Anyways, I guess we will truly enjoy being doctors so work will be fun? Heck, I'm jealous of the doctors at this hospital. When we are not busy, they get to sleep and make butt-loads of money doing it.

Yeah, I'm completely tired of working in research. It's boring. ANd it's not like I can really take advantage of all the free time I have - most of my friends are in school and studying!

Do you mean "quit" work?

I'm lacking motivation for my job too. But I don't want to study either. I guess I know this is the calm before the storm, so I just want to move, get settled, and relax for a couple of weeks before school starts. Of course my boss wants me to get all this work done before I leave . . . stupid research.

Right there with ya. Working full time and can't wait to go back to being a student and living off government loans 🙂

I absolutely loathe my job these days..work in a pharmaceutical company

tired of being treated like a robot!

I plan to quit end of June...can't wait!!!

Forget quitting work, I can't wait to finish my MS program. With the complete theorietical natural of my graduate program, I cannot wait to get some good, old fashioned, post-positivistic facts at med school

I am going to work fulltime until a couple weeks before school starts. I need the money 🙁

Was this thread made just for me. Ever since I got accepted in school I have no motivation to work. My last day of work is June 30, 2006  I am counting down the days on my calendar.

This thread is so funny! I agree. Ever since I was accepted my motivation for work is so non-existant. In fact, I'm supposed to be doing work right now but I am reading these posts instead 🙂

I so definetely feel you guys! I work full time doing research and have absolutely no motivation to continue. But, luckily I'm done May 12th and leave to europe may 14th for a month and half... then its relaxation time till school starts... Not exactly ready to start studying, but def ready to stop working!

This thread read my mind 🙂 The closer it is to August the more everyone at work is pissing me off because I just want be out of here and finally start somewhere already!!! Instead of working at work I sit here and read SDN, check my email and bum around. I have also had trouble just getting here on time 🙂 I work with high school students so after a few months they start to drive you nuts. Glad to hear everyone is as ready to quit work as I am 😀

I suggest working up until the day before school starts. Trust me, you will want the money later.

My last day of work was a Friday in Columbus, OH and my first day of orientation was Monday (actually Tuesday since itwas labor day)......in Chicago

HaHAha

I totally feel like i'm wasting my life right now. I really just want to sleep..drink..dance..sleep..drink some more..and travel a bit before Med school starts this summer. But then again I do love the extra cash I get to save up.

whats sad is i'm typing this up on the company's computer so they might be monitoring everything I type. Oh well.

Anyone planning on quitting in May, and dumping all savings on traveling and slacking off?

I don't know about you guys/gals but since I've been accepted I getting more vocal/opinionated at work  . I draw blood and so once in a while I run into nurses that treat me like some idiot. I just say yes ma'am and be on my way before the acceptance but now I could care less. I talk back to them or go directly to the nursing manager. Who cares if they fire me? I don't need a job reference until at least 7 years from now.

BTW, I'm glad I graduated already or else I'd have a hard time studying for anything!

I AM!!! WOOHOOOO... EUROPE HERE I COME

I don't know. In a year of medical school you guys may be "quite" ready to work at 7-11 again. 😀 I know I am.

I did that before I started school. Highly recommended.

Worked at 7/11? Nice.

Were you able to make it look like something clinical on your applications?

Must be able to dodge bullets and knifes to make it out of there and into medical schools. 👍

This is great. I just found out they will be doing construction on my building during may-august. So I won't have to be there after all (but still get paid)     It really does not matter I only surf SDN

I have been wanting to quit my job ever since i've been accepted and thats been since February!! But of course I need to save up some money so I just gotta grit my teeth and get through a couple of more months. Come june all i will be doing is sleeping in late, watching tv, traveling, and of course drinking/partying 😀 😀 😀

OMG...I am soooooooooo ready to quit. It is soooo boring. Everyone thinks I am exaggerating but I LITERALLY do NOTHING after about 8:30am (work starts at 8). There is NOTHING to do. I honestly don't know why they are employing me. I just surf the net and listen to the radio ALL DAY LONG.

Anyway, I received my first acceptance in November and then I went through a period from Nov. - Dec. where I was very excited about medical school, and would study biochem and anatomy at work....and then that ended hahahah!

Then I just went back to surfing the net. I cannot wait to be in school again! Its too bad I have to move, otherwise I'd keep this job and just study at work.

On a positive note, does anyone else feel liberated by the fact that we REALLY don't need these jobs? I know its terrible to say this, but I have the attitude of "ok, so what are you gonna do? fire me? ok, I'm outta here in a few months anyway...."

If you seriously are as bored as me, PM me and we can exchange e-mail addresses. I'm sure all of my friends are sick of hearing, "I'm at work and am sooooooooooooooooooooo bored."

Finally, others who feel my pain. I'm quitting my sucky, boring cubicle job on June 30. The next 12 wks and 2 days are going to be looooong. And we don't even have internet access 🙁

As much as my job irritates me sometimes, I actually do like my job. The times I do feel like quitting (e.g. taking a student down to the ground) are outnumbered by the rest of my work. 🙂

 No, I was just being facetious. The year before I started school I did home health care.

Right now I am working like 60-70hrs a week 7 days a week every week between my full time environmental consulting/engineering job, and waiting tables on the side. I think I am quitting both around August 1st. Ive Put in notice at least for both jobs for then. I loved the look on my bosses and coworkers faces when i told them all! They just all looked deflated... I have to train my replacement at my fulltime job in July as I phase myself out slowly... im taking a Vacation in august before school starts. Between savings from my jobs and my military scholarship I am trying to enter medical school in a position where money is not an issue (present or future). Period. This will give me one less thing to think about in school and allow me to focus all of my efforts on helping people and becoming an outstanding physician. As for studying before school starts...F**K THAT! Its time to work hard and more importantly party harder.... We made it, lets celebrate-

Wow, when I started this thread, I had no idea that so many people shared the same feelings. Although I like my job alot, I look forward to the day that I hand in that notice.

 I did the exact same thing for anatomy. That lasted for ~ a month.

Sounds like me. It's a great position to be in though.

Man, I wish my job was like that. I am a C.N.A. and job is full of, well, crap...and I hate it!! 👎

Here's a story that should make you happier about your job. Here at my undergrad, I am a Resident Assistant. Today, they notified my building at 630 pm that we had to move out of our buidling and would not be allowed back in due to an electrical problem. We had less than four hours to move all of our stuff. The real kicker, however, is that I was living in an upperclass dorm, which had more freedom (I go to a catholic college so we have rules against females staying over and blah). In this building, we didn't have those rules. Now, I am forced to move into the freshmen dorms or, as we love to call it, the ten floors of beef, as a senior with one month to go. My former residents are scattered around on all the floors and I am forced to share the floor with another RA. Now that is a sucky ass job. My day could not possibly get any better!! :scared:

Ok...so I'm sure you are all bored like me and thought you might find this entertaining. To give you some background, I work in a corporate sales office where I run various reports for a team of sales reps. I run one report daily (that takes ~10 min) and then I do misc. tasks throughout the day that collectively probably takes 30 min. The only exception is Monday, where my reports take ~45 min.

So earlier this week, a supervisor of mine sent out an e-mail saying we will be having a weekly conference call that should only last about an hour. (Now I'm thinking AN HOUR?!?! are you KIDDING me? what could we possibly discuss for an HOUR? So I e-mail her and say, "Can you please elaborate on what we will be discussing. I don't know why this call is necessary. I have no problems/questions about any of the reports I run, nor do I need any information updates." (there's that "I don't care about this job," attitude kicking in  )

Ok, so fast forward to this morning. Here is what we will be discussing for an HOUR every week:

1.) Ordering--I place maybe 3 orders a day. It consists of entering the sku numbers into a comptuer program, and pressing F4.

2.) Updating phone lists

3.) New hire checklist - I don't do this. Since I've worked here, we've hired ONE person. Do you know what I had to do? Print directions for them to go to their drug test and print a background check consent form. I didn't even have to keep track of these documents or distribute them--just PRINT them.

Excuse me, but seriously, I could cover the entire phone call in a 3 line e-mail. Here goes:

--To order an item, enter the sku number, press F4.
--I'm sending an e-mail with any phone number changes
--When there is a new hire, print up the forms attached to this e-mail.

Do you know how the conf call is gonna go? Like this…

"Hi, is everyone here?"
Pause pause
"Yes"
Pause
"I can't hear you"
Pause
"So today we are going to go through some practice orders. I want you to press F4."
"S4?"
"No, F4."
"I'm pressing S4 and nothing is happening. Do I have to press S and 4 at the same time?"

Thank God I have the mute codes.

Bob Slydell: You see, what we're trying to do is get a feeling for how people spend their time at work so if you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Bob Slydell: Great.
Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh - after that I sorta space out for an hour.
Bob Porter: Da-uh? Space out?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

The key is to have a desk right near the side door 😉 I'm a software engineer like Peter Gibbins; I use it wisely 😀

OMG! While I don't have TPS reports, I can totally relate to the scene where Peter is told 8x by his supervisors about his error with the TPS cover sheet.

Everyday, we have e-mails sent throughout our (very large) company. When a memo is sent out, every single level of supervisor feels the need to re-fwd iit to everyone below him/her. Since I am towards the lower end of the "food chain," I get a ton of e-mails. For example, let's say a Regional President sends out a notice, I then receive that e-mail from the Regional President, the Regional Manager, the State Coordniator, the District manager, and then a local manager. Everyday, I'd say I delete at least 50 e-mails.

And for those of you who are bored, you should check out this site.

www.officeguns.com

It has all these different "guns" you can make from office supplies.

Oh man, that's been so my attitude for the past few months. Getting fired would actually be pretty cool because they'd give me a severance package (a guy I knew got fired and got 3 months of pay). At this point, that would be enough to get me about up to school starting. 🙂

I used to actually like my job okay, but now it's driving me nuts -- since I know I'm leaving, all the bad stuff irritates me more. But, I do need the money for now, so I'm going to be there a few more months. My plan is to quit by the end of June, so I'll have July off.

Oh if I could get 3 months severance pay, I would do it in a HEARTBEAT!

While we are all complaining about our jobs, I've gotta vent about something else. Let me preface this by saying, most people here are REALLY REALLY nice and I am truly blessed to have a job where I can goof off all day and get paid. However, I am in an entry level position, and am constantly spoken to in a condescending manner, and am treated (by those who don't know I'm going to medical school) as an IDIOT. I know its petty, but there are times when I just want to scream, "LISTEN! I am smart! Stop treating me like I barely got my GED or something."

Can anyone else relate?

Thank you to the person who corrected the OP's original spelling on this post...I was getting tired of reading this trying to imagine what future doctor couldn't differentiate quit from quite.

Typos happen hun. Even to the best of us. Let it go. 🙄

Has anyone thought about the idea of getting your boss to lay you off? Theoretically, would one be able to collect unemployment for several months while attending school if this were to happen?

Nope. I wouldn't collect unemployment even if I was laid off. I'd probably just get a stupid mall/restaurant type job and move back home till school started.
