Do you think there are any real-life Dr. Kelso's or Dr. Kox's? Any experience with these type?

Dr. Kelso, while exaggerated for comedic effect, is a true hospital administrator... he has to make ugly decisions that makes people hate him. I'm sure there are a lot of him around.

I would expect there are a few Dr. Cox-types around. Maybe not so entertaining to watch, but the teaching style is pretty common. Of course, if you want to be literal about it...

The Dr Cox character doesn't ring true because he has too much of a soft side and is too likeable. But there are definitely bastards who will ride their juniors and be verbally abusive if that's what you are asking.

Absolutely, everybody despised the head of the OR where I volunteered for 6 months. In reality, I got to know her and she was very nice.

That about sums it up. I've heard removing the "heart of gold" aspect of Cox makes him much more realistic.

Though, to be honest, most of the doctors that frequent the nurse's station where I work are pretty damn nice, though this might be because I'm not a resident working under them. The jerkiest doctor I work with is a troll-faced surgeon who I hated back when I was working at his answering service, barking one word orders at us over the phone. I like to put him on the spot when he comes in. I smile, look him right in the eye, greet him and ask him how he's doing. Since he's surrounded by a dozen nurses and doctors, he grumbles a response to me about as pleasantly as he can muster. *Evil laugh*

Agreed. Recently I've been wondering how on earth residents learn when they need to learn from people like that. How are you supposed to learn your skill sets when your attending is riding you day in and day out.
