Hello Everyone, I am a new member on this site .. and I'm amazed that soo many of you with such high stats are applying to the carribean. I guess US school are much more difficult to get admission than I thought.

Anyhow I lost my motivation to pursue my dream of becoming a physician. I have been brainstorming for the past month now and have realized that I can't see myself doing anything other than medicine.. I cannot believe i had this much passion, which I unfortunately had lost during my 2nd year of University.

My overall gpa is 2.64 and I have yet to take the MCAT- but am intensively going to study to take it in August.. I've worked 4+ years in a medical setting and have volunteered. I know I can land good LORS from my Science professors. I am graduating this MAY with a biology degree (b.s)

Am I just being optimistic that I can get into one of the schools: SGU, ROSS, or AUC?
Or shall I leave this life long dream of mines.. I can't even think of not becoming a doctor.

Any helpful suggestions or insight will greatly be appreciated. I'm sorry if you regulars are tired of seeing this type of thread but I didn't see anyone with a low gpa as mines. Thank You!

Hi,

Honestly if you got a 40 on the MCAT you still would have 0 chance to get into a US school no matter how man LOR's you had

2.64 is a very low average

The min requirements for US md schools is 3.0 and then they usually do not accept much lower then 3.4

The min GPA for US DO school is around 2.8 and then they usually do not accept much lower then 3.2 or 3.3 GPA

Caribbean schools like the Big 4, SGU, ROSS, AUC and SABA do not accept many below a 2.7 but you may luck out the 2.64 with an MCAT around 24 or better may be enough. I would apply to all 4 after the MCAT

I'm sorry but they way you posted it seems you did not get good advice during undergrad if any it seems.

I know I did not get proper guidance from anyone, and I know I messed up with my gpa. Although I know very well that i have the capability to do well and succeed. This is my last semester and i'm taking 10 credits..

I feel that my gpa does not accurately represent my intelligence although I really hope to do well on my MCATs. What do you feel would be the minimum where I could get admission?

Someone also suggested SABA?

Oh I understand, I just want to give you good advice at this point.

If you have more science to finish and do well enough then the GPA may be at that 2.7 mark and thats better for the Big 4

ALso a MCAT can help a lot if high for the Caribbean just not the US.

Thanks again Oldpro for your kind insight!.. I wish I had guidance in my life earlier, maybe I wouldn't be so lost and dissapointed with myself--especially with my gpa.

OldPro is indeed a good man!

Well bro, give it a shot man after your MCATS, a lot of universities do offer MCAT courses. You can always check in with the private Princeton or Kaplan review courses they may help yaa as well.

Good Luck.

If this is what you want do not give up, Knowledge is power

You know now what you face and there are options

1. Take the MCAT
2. Look at what options are ahead
3. Know that most Post Bac's want a 3.0 undergrad to admit you so those who say "Post Bac" then US school do not know the deal
4. There are other schools that are legit like MUA to attend if not Big 4

how are your grades in the last 4 semesters
