I had always heard that the majority of interviews were held in December and January. For the AVERAGE applicant, is this true? I am considering planning a family trip for the week of Thanksgiving but I won't schedule it if there's a chance that I'll be interviewing that week. Anyone know realistic dates for average (IM) programs?

this is just speaking from some of the fourth years I talked to last year. Two of them I know for sure were done interviewing in early december. They both had a lot of interviews in november. they didn't interview at all in january.

I don't know if this is common, because I myself have just sent my ERAS stuff in last week so I have no clue.

However, i talked to a PD at a program a month ago and they were going to start interviewing people on November 7th.

Most programs would like to see Dean letter, which comes out Nov. 1st.

Agreed. However, many programs grant interviews based on CAF, personal statement and letters alone.

There are several at my school who have gotten interview invites days after sending in their ERAS 2 weeks ago.

not uncommon to have several invites before dean's letters.

keep in mind that residency committees also like to have family vacations during holidays. d=) if you're offered interviews in november, they might not even be available during turkey week... if they are, and if your family trip is near one of your applications, feel free to call and say "hey, i'm going to be in the area on X day, i was wondering if it'd be ok to schedule an interview while i'm nearby."

just some thoughts...
