Hello all,

I am just starting my third course of medical school and wanted some of advice from you all.

First off, I know some (most) of these questions have been answered before, so please don't tell me to use the search function lol I'm hoping to get some advice tailored to my situation.

Am I not taking Pre-clinical grades seriously enough?

I worked really hard during my first course and received Honors, but didn't really get much work done in my lab or STEP prep.
After talking to some upperclassmen, I decided to say f*@$ it to class grades and mature zanki/do research as much as possible. I ended receiving a Pass in my second course (school is H, PC, P, F).

If end up with a few honors/pass with commendation, but mostly Passes, will that look bad when applying for competitive residencies? (Ex: 2H, 2PC, 4P)

How much research is enough?

So far, I have 2 poster presentation, 2 oral presentations, and 3 co-authorships on manuscripts (all basic science and 2/3 author positions, except for one 1st author oral presentation), with a 1st author poster and manuscript on the way (*knocks on wood*).

I still want to inflate these numbers a bit via case reports/chart reviews and actual research, but should I start focusing on my Pre-clinical grades more?

Thanks for the help (my teammates never give me any....lol)

As far as I know, preclinical grades aren't really standalone important from a residency standpoint unless they factor into AOA, in which case AOA can be important (though generally not necessary).

This is fine in theory (as it's what I did), but you've gotta make sure you're actually learning the material well. Without knowing your situation at all, I would wonder whether a student who is getting mostly Passes is adequately preparing for the boards.

Do research at the expense of your social life, not the expense of your grades/learning.

Wow your research experience is impressive. Im actually an incoming M1 and I wanted to do research from first year. Any advice? Also you mentioned inflate numbers via case reports/chart reviews. Can you elaborate a bit on that and explain what that is and how to do that? Thanks in advance.
