Reality check?!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If your marks in organic chemistry and biochemistry are reflective of your comprehension, then the MCAT is going to be very difficult.

Biochemistry is emphasized heavily, and some passages (and their respective 3-5 questions) are entirely based on Organic Chemistry concepts.

If you can manage to perform well (128+) on Chem/Phys and the Bio sections, it may change an ADCOMs mind about your grades in those areas.

The C's themselves won't be a problem if your overall cGPA and sGPA are still up there.

If those C's are indicative of your knowledge in those subjects, however, you'll encounter issues with the MCAT.

As stated above, you'd have to kill the MCAT, particularly in those subjects. Unfortunately, those are probably the two most emphasized subjects on the MCAT. It is possible you just had crazy hard teachers for those subjects and you're actually very proficient in orgo and biochem! Study hard for those and perform well in the rest of your classes and you have a great shot!!

thank you very much to the replies! Will definitely focus on the subjects much more now. I do feel as if my knowledge in these subjects was greater than the grades received.

I would be a little concerned about the Biochemistry, as that is certainly a large part of the MCAT. I disagree with orgo being a large part, however. When I took the MCAT, if I would have only known the bare minimum basics of orgo, I would have been fine.

I’m just worried more about how MD/ DO schools would look upon that rather than for the MCAT.
