I didnt have the energy to read all of it, here's my take for the OP:
MS1 and MS2: lots of studying, 4-5 hours a day 6 days a week is what I averaged. Tests every 3-4 weeks. Lots of memorizing, rememorizing, forgetting, and rememorizing.
Step 1: Reviewing (NB choice of verb) stuff from MS1 and MS2 for about 5 weeks.
MS3: People have talked a lot about ass kissing and brown nosing to honor the clerkships. Perhaps at those schools. Here's a formula that worked for me:
1. Show up on time
2. Do my work on time
3. Read about my patients
4. smile
5. Ask the intern and resident what else needed to get done.
6. don't vanish
7. Don't mock patients, or family
8. Don't bail early if there's work to do.
It doesn't seem to me like there's a lot of brown nosing there. In fact, for those of you who have worked in the real world, this bears a striking resemblance to the behaviors that will allow you to keep your job.
MS4: Sub-Internship: this is a rotation where you function like an intern, it's usually a little more time and effort intensive than regular clerkships.
Everything else in MS4 is whatever you want. It's as easy or hard as you want.
Interviews: lots of flying, shelling out cash, and smiling.
