So earlier today I thought I had a 3.8, 517. Pretty decent stat line. Then I remembered that I took a community college course the summer of my soph year (calc II) and got a failing grade in it. I was on track to do well in that class, but because of what amounted to a medical emergency (ironic, i know) I was unable to attend the final on time causing my grade on that exam to be a 0. Long story short, I failed as a result. This course brings my cGPA down to a 3.65 from 3.8 and my sGPA even lower, too scared to check tbh but it was 3.7 before taking into account the CC class. I guess the question now is how I address this in my application. I'm under a lot of stress because I went from being competitive for a lot of top schools to worrying about even being accepted MD.

Also I have my last activities section open and I was thinking I could use this to put an explanation for the grade in my primary. Is this a good or bad idea? Thank you so much for helping me at one of my lowest points in recent memory.
Your primary statement is not for explanations.

Thank you Goro and Catalystic, I'll be sure to address this issue in my secondaries rather than in my primary. Also maybe I overreacted a bit, turns out this course brings my GPA down from a 3.8 to a 3.71 (I got a D+ not an F lol). Obviously still a huge hit but I'm holding out hope that my effort in the remainder of my academic course work, ECs, and personal statement will help me get noticed.
A 3.72 +/- 0.24 cGPA is the average for those matriculating to MD schools. You're still in the game.
