I finally started practice tests today. I got a 25 on the April MCAT and just took 3R and got a 25 again! I thought 3R is supposed to be easier!?!?!

Is there hope for breaking 30? Any suggestions for the desperately needed score improvement?

It's a matter of refamilarizing yourself with the test. Go over all your answers and analyze each of the responses. Then in a day or two take asnother practice test. Keep taking them every other day or so, and I'm sur eyour scores will go up. Whatever you do, don't panic ; that will only exacerbate the problem.

Thanks! 🙂 I know you mentioned before that you were stressed, especially since you're taking a summer class like me but it seems like you are progressing along really well....I hope I can catch up to where you are at

as for tests being easier, I think it depends on the person and what he's most familiar with. I really didn't think any of those exams were easy. I always felt like I was using all cylinders. Btw, what is your score breakdown? If your verbals score is decent >7, then you should do fine. The science sections should eventually become instinct. When I think about taking the test, I realize that it's just repetition of questions. So much so that I no longer need to "think" about a question, well, for the most part.

I think repeating the exams is key in making the sciences second nature--especially the physical. You'll be surprised how high your physical will jump. Just keep practicing and all will come through.

My score breakdown has been a consistent 9, 8, 8 with the 9 in bio. I just can't seem to hit that magical 10 mark.

I went back and analyzed my answers in both verbal and PS and I realize that I just didn't "see the obvious." I'm going to take 4R tomorrow and see how that goes.

Thanks for the encouragement. I just realized that I CAN'T back out of August because I already submitted my app and checked that August MCAT box so I guess I found more of a reason to take it now. At least I'm not studying for the first time so I don't have to learn anything new. I just have to recall and access all that old information.

I think that you need to find out what your missing on bio. You might mainly be missing the orgo. If so, just focus on memorizing the reactions and obvious facts. If it's mostly bio, then see which subject you're weak in. I think mine is the physio/neuro stuff. I also need to memorize the hormones. What I like to do during the exam is I complete the bio passages first, then the orgo. I do the independent questions in order while doing the bio passages.

For the physical, get all the physical science sections from AAMC tests and do them all together in the same day. I mean do this after you've finished them. I'm kind of surprised that a lot people don't do many tests but review a lot. I thought that my review was worthless without doing all those exams. You need to hit the ps section of the exams over and over until the test. If you do that, then I'm pretty sure that your score will be a 10.

About the physical, my advice might be weird, but it worked for me. I can't really see how ppl expect to get at least a 10 w/o doing a lot of exams. Bio on the other hand relies a lot less on repetition and more on just luck of the draw. I occassionally do better then the previous test, but it's nothing that's completely consistent.

hope this helps. later.

I'm not so sure about that, i'm just trying not to ge ttoo stressed out b/c i know that can be the kiss of death. You are probably doing better on the exams than i am and unfortunately that is probably the best indicator of how one will do on the real thing. GOOD LUCK!!

PS When is your summer course over?

My histology class is over the 19th....One week after MCAT. So after I take the MCAT, I have to study for the final. I get a one week break and then it's back to school....

Never give up on the studying! See where you went wrong in your "style of thinking" for each wrong answer and correct it. But in some cases, thats easier said than done. Make the most with what you can do.
Remember: YOU run the test, it doesnt run you!!!

ouch!! My orgo final is 4 days before the MCAT, so i'm not sure which is worse. I was thinking of asking myrof if i could postphone mine until the following week but then i know i'll regret it, so i might as well ust get it over with. I just know it will take away any MCAT studying Sunday or Monday night and i'll probably not have gotten any sleep the so it will also eliminate Tuesday...not a good scenario for the last week.

And i have a little more time, classes start on the 26th.

I think that's just what I needed to hear since I'm sitting here at the library at 1130 on a Sat. night, checking over my answers to 3R...

Thanks!

I just took 3R yesterday, and I scored lower, by a point, than I have on the last several TPR diags, so it's not just you!!!

I think whoever said that everyone does differently on different tests is right. I found PS to be really tough, and even though I didn't think I did poorly on verbal, my score was 2 pts. down from my past tests. I'm also taking 4R in a few days, and will hopefully get back up near 30. I was really upset yesterday (still am), because there's only 2 weeks left...but dont' despair. Take 4R and see how it compares.
