Hi everyone,
So i've been reading the threads about who is considered a "reapplicant" in terms of how the amcas defines it. I am scheduled to take the June 20th MCAT and hopefully hope to have my amcas filled out by then and sent out without the letters of recommendations. I also plan to add only one school (ie: my state school) that I hope to submit and update with my mcat scores later while intending to add other schools after I obtain my scores back. Hypothetically, say I do not get the score I want, and withdraw before its verified.I just read AMCAS and it said that if you withdraw, it is final and can not apply again this cycle. I was hoping if anyone can give advice..I guess in the worst case scenario (aka low mcat score and applied to one school) and as well as any other advice in terms of this applicatnt vs reapplicant thing? And will the single school that I withdrew from look at me unfavorably when I apply the next cycle? (I guess what I'm asking are the pros and cons). Sorry for the ramble..im just plain confused! thanks!

In amcas, you check a box for each individual school in regards to if you have previously applied there or not.

On most secondaries it asks if you have applied to their respective school or not in previous cycles.

In other words, assuming everything stays the same this cycle, if you submit to one single school, then withdraw your entire application, you will only appear as a reapplicant to the school that you previously applied to.

HTH!

EDIT: and, no, schools do not dislike/punish reapplicants.

Also, if you're worried about it, then instead of applying to your state school, just pick some other OOS or backup school where you wouldn't care as much about admission, and save the state school. Not really necessary, but could be an added level of security

Like the other posters said, add a OOS school that you aren't very keen on going. If you do get a low MCAT score and have to reapply next cycle, then just don't apply that that OOS school. You won't be a re-applicant at any other school. Other schools won't know that you applied before.
