Hey everyone,

I could really use some advice on my current situation. I was planning on applying this upcoming cycle but now I am not so sure.

So far I have completed 96 credits, 21 at one university and the remaining 75 at another university (changed programs). In the most recent 75 credits I have been doing okay and have a cGPA of 3.53 and an sGPA of 3.54, however today I received my first year transcript in the mail and my cGPA for those 21 credits is 2.33 (due to a couple very low grades).

My cGPA will now be around a 3.31 and my sGPA around a 3.2 for all 96 credits.

So basically my first year GPA has completely erased everything good I have been able to accomplish in my new degree, which is very upsetting especially because I had no interest in pursuing dentistry during my first year and was only trying to pass the basic science courses I had to take to fulfil the requirements and do okay in the rest.

I took the DAT only once and achieved an 18 AA an a 16 PAT, I had little time to study for the DAT and plan on retaking but will not be able to do so until later in the year after applications have begun.

Given my current stats do you think it is worth it to apply this cycle or not ? I am really unsure of what to do right now and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

My stats are expected to be identical by next year, although it was my 2nd year that brought me down. I have a 4.0 GPA in my 3rd year, hoping to keep the same in the 4th to get my chances higher.

From what I've seen, you have a chance although you're slightly below average in the GPA department, and below average in the DAT department. If anything is going to keep you behind this cycle, it's the DAT. Doesn't hurt to apply, but I'd bank on retaking the DAT in order to strengthen your chances.

Thanks for the reply, I also think its best to retake the DAT but my problem is I wont have the opportunity until later in the year so I am hoping I have some chance with these scores for now. Are you applying this cycle Connauton or are you waiting till after your 4th year?
